Introduction The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) submits this Request for Information (RFI) from those entities (Contractor / Respondent) interested in providing industry information regarding the Scope Overview below. The purpose of this RFI is to solicit information that will enable WMATA to determine industry participation in response to the release of a future solicitation. Input that entities or interested participants provide will be reviewed and considered This is a Request for Information only and your response is not an offer. This Request for Information does not commit WMATA to any incurred costs in preparation of any submission to this notice, or to contract for services. Background Information WMATA is in the process of updating its radio communication system. As part of this project, WMATA has they have a need for approximately 100 miles of 1 ⅝ inch radiating coaxial cable. Additionally, WMATA supplementary projects may dictate the need for an additional 100 miles of the same radiating coaxial cable. WMATA is seeking a Contractor / Vendor / Supplier who can satisfy the FTA Buy America 1 requirements and comply with the following technical requirements. Scope Overview The cable shall be a radiating cable with a black jacket material of non-halogenated, fire retardant polyolefin. The dielectric material shall be foam PE (Polyethylene). The inner conductor shall be corrugated copper tube and the outer conductor shall be copper foil. The tape barrier shall be Mica. The nominal size shall be 1-5/8 inches and the diameter of the over jacket shall be 1.960 inches maximum. The inner conductor outside diameter shall be 0.7150 inches and the outer conductor outside diameter conductor shall be 1.725 inches. The cable weight shall be 0.54 lbs. /ft. The operating band shall be 500 MHz to 2700 MHz and have a vertical polarization. The optimum operating frequency band shall be 700 to 960 MHz and the 1700 to 2400 MHz. 1 Buy America. The Authority shall comply with Section 165 of the Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982, 49 USC 1601, Section 337 of the Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation Assistance Act of 1987, and 49 CFR Part 611, which impose Buy America Provisions on the procurement of foreign products and materials. http://www.fta.dot.gov/legislation_law/12921.html Page 3 of 7

The typical VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) in the 1700 to 2400 MHz band is 1.38 and in the 700 to 960 MHz band is 1.30. The cable impedance shall be 50 Ohms (+/- 2 Ohms). The inner conductor resistance shall be 0.410 Ohms/foot and the outer conductor resistance shall be 0.600 Ohms/foot. The insulation resistance shall be greater than 100,000 MOhms with a jacket spark test voltage of 10000 V(rms), a peak power capacity of 302 KW, and a velocity of 93%. The cable shall have an installation temperature of minus 22 Degree F to plus 140 degree F with an operating temperature of minus 22 Degree F to plus 176 degree F. The cable shall have a bending moment of 16.0 N-m, a flat plate crush strength of 46.0 lbs. / in, a minimum bending radius of 20.0 inches, a tensile strength of 475 lbs., and an external indication of slot adjustment. The cable shall have a 4.0 inch recommended distance from wall and a 4.3 feet recommended hanger spacing. The radiating cable shall have successfully passed NFPA 130, IEC 60332-1, and IEC 60332-3C-24 Fire Retardancy Testing; IEC 61034 Smoke Index Testing, and ICEC 60754-1, IEC 60754-2 Toxicity Index Smoke Testing. Using Attenuation Test Method IEC 61196-4 at an ambient temperature of 68 degrees F, the leaky coax cable shall provide the following attenuation (with a tolerance of +/- 5%): 700 MHz 1.80 db/100 m 70 Coupling Loss (50%) 73 Coupling Loss (95%) 800 MHz 1.90 db/100 m 69 Coupling Loss (50%) 71 Coupling Loss (95%) 900 MHz 2.10 db/100 m 68 Coupling Loss (50%) 70 Coupling Loss (95%) 960 MHz 2.10 db/100 m 69 Coupling Loss (50%) 72 Coupling Loss (95%) 1700 MHz 3.30 db/100 m 64 Coupling Loss (50%) 69 Coupling Loss (95%) 1800 MHz 3.50 db/100 m 61 Coupling Loss (50%) 65 Coupling Loss (95%) 1900 MHz 3.80 db/100 m 61 Coupling Loss (50%) 66 Coupling Loss (95%) 2000 MHz 4.20 db/100 m 60 Coupling Loss (50%) 67 Coupling Loss (95%) 2100 MHz 4.30 db/100 m 60 Coupling Loss (50%) 67 Coupling Loss (95%) 2200 MHz 4.60 db/100 m 60 Coupling Loss (50%) 67 Coupling Loss (95%) 2300 MHz 5.00 db/100 m 59 Coupling Loss (50%) 66 Coupling Loss (95%) 2400 MHz 5.40 db/100 m 57 Coupling Loss (50%) 65 Coupling Loss (95%) 2500 MHz 5.80 db/100 m 57 Coupling Loss (50%) 63 Coupling Loss (95%) 2600 MHz 6.50 db/100 m 56 Coupling Loss (50%) 63 Coupling Loss (95%) 2700 MHz 7.80 db/100 m 55 Coupling Loss (50%) 64 Coupling Loss (95%) Page 4 of 7
