Quilt Detail: Cupboard Blues - Margaret Smith SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING 7.30PM WEDNESDAY 2ND APRIL The committee and I invite all members to join us at this meeting where we want your approval to adopt the New Constitution that has been in draft format on our website for the last 2 months. The final update is now complete following comments from members and committee. This update will be published in the March QQ with full details of the meeting. If you have any queries about the Constitution, please do not hesitate to contact the committee or I. Convenor and Treasurer are two such positions. If you are interested in seeing what is involved please speak to myself or one of the committee and we can fill you in with the details. There has been a slight delay with the raffle permit, completely out of our hands. However we will get them to you as soon as we possibly can. Please look out for rosters on sewing days and nights and consider what you can do to contribute to the running of Quiltwest. I would love to hear from anyone who will be available to put up or take down the exhibition this year. We put up the exhibition on Monday and Tuesday May 19th and 20th. Take down happens at the close of Quiltwest on Sunday May 25th. We are particularly interested in any strong men you can persuade to help with the putting up of the quilt stands. I hope you are finishing off your entries and preparing photos and entry forms. Closing date March 31st. Whether or not you receive an award you will feel immensely proud when you see your quilt hung in the exhibition. Good luck to you all. Friendships are sewn One stitch at a time! HELEN RHODES - SPEAKER AT APRIL MEETING Helen Rhodes will be our speaker following the Special General Meeting on the evening of Wednesday 2 nd April. Helen is a very talented Textile Art & Design teacher who is well known throughout Australia and is in high demand as a tutor. Helen brings a fresh approach to using beautiful threads and fabric to create unique life-like Textile Art. She uses fabulous threads, free machine stitch textures and couched embellishments in her work. Helen will have some of her work for you to admire as well as having many scrumptious threads on sale. Helen will speak after a light supper that will follow the meeting which should not be too long. Vessels The 2014 Challenge Theme is Vessels Make a small quilt, no larger than 50cm x 70cm with the theme "Vessels". You may interpret the theme as you wish to create an entry into the travelling WAQA display. A diverse and colourful collection will have wide appeal. This is an opportunity to try a new technique or reduce your stash without a big time commitment. Entries are due late in 2014, so you have plenty of time to complete this mini-quilt. Janet received her WAQA Teacher s badge and certificate following her presentation at the meeting. COMMUNITY QUILTS Gwen Parry 1. BOM... wait till you see the fantastic Feb BOM at sewing day/ night!! It is so clever. You will be amazed at what emerges from 2 x 10 squares. 2. CQBee reminder:10am - 3pm, Feb 23 at Alexander Park Craft House, Mt Lawley. BYO sewing machine, notions, mat, ruler, cutter, lunch, energy, enthusiasm and we will provide everything else including challenges, guidance, tips, techniques and you get to work alongside quilters of all ages, skills, interests and backgrounds. Come and share in the wonderful sense of community. 3. Perth Hills fire Quilts. We are looking for quilts for all ages but especially boy quilts for kids to adults. 4. We had a great take up of the UFO kits last month but there are a still a few ready to be finished off. 5.
