If connected, the indicator illuminates in green color. <52> / Indicator 2 Indicates the current status of the batteries. When the system is supplied with power by the batteries and the power capacity is lower than 30%, the indicator is yellow and flashes. When the batteries are being charged, the indicator light is on and in yellow color. When the battery capacity is charged to the full capacity, the indicator color turns green. In other statuses, the indicator light is off. 5

4 Power ON/ OFF CAUTION: 1. 2. To ensure safe and effective system operation, you must perform daily maintenance and checks. If the system begins to function improperly immediately stop scanning. If the system continues to function improperly fully shut down the system and contact Mindray Customer Service Department or sales representative. If you use the system in a persistent improperly functioning state you may harm the animal or damage the equipment. Power ON 1. Connect the system to the power supply through the power adapter. 2. Press the power button to turn on the system and the power indicator is on in green color. Or press directly when the batteries are of sufficient capacity. To power off your system normally: Gently press the power button once on the upper right corner of the control panel. The [Shutdown Confirm] screen appears as the following: Shut down:to power off the system. Quick Off:Click to power off the system quickly, which is also referred to as hibernation. This function enables the system to restart quickly. Cancel:To cancel the operation. If you will not use the system for a long period of time, you shall disconnect the power adapter; disconnect the mains power; turn off powers of all peripherals connected to the system. To shut down the system in a direct way if you cannot do it normally: Press and hold the power button for a long time and the system will power off without displaying the [Shutdown Confirm] screen. Shutting down the system this way may destroy the data. NOTE: DO NOT rush shutdown of the system in a direct way. It may destroy the data. DO NOT directly shut down the system. It may corrupt the data. 7

5 Enter or Search Animal Information To enter animal information Enter the animal information before the exam: 1. Press to end the current animal exam to start a new exam. 2. Press to enter the Animal Information screen. 3. Enter the basic information. 4. Select exam type. 5. Enter the exam type related information. 6. Click [OK] to save the entered information and exit; or, Click [Cancel] to cancel the entered information and exit. To search for animal information 1. To enter istation (animal data management): Press on the keyboard; or, Click [istation] in the Animal Info screen; or Click [istation] in the Review screen. 2. In the Data Source field, select the animal information recorded location. 3. Set the animal conditions in the Search field, and the system displays the results in real time. 4. When a animal is selected, you can view images and reports in the file list. 5. Select one animal information, Click [New Exam] to switch to Animal Info screen. You can edit the imported information, and then click [OK] to start a new exam. Click [Activate Exam] to continue an exam that has been finished within 24 hours. Click [Continue Exam] to continue an unfinished exam carried out within 24 hours. Click [Review] to switch to the Review screen. Click [Exit] to exit. 8

6 Select Probe and Exam Mode After directly connecting a probe or connecting probes via the probe extend module, you can: Select the exam mode (when only one probe is connected): (1) Press to open the exam switching dialogue box. (2) Roll the trackball and press <Set> to select the exam mode. Select the exam mode and probe (when more than one probe are connected): (1) Press to open the exam and probe switching dialog box. (2) Roll the trackball and press <Set> to select the exam mode, and use the left/right keys of the soft menu controls to switch the probe. 9

7 Image Adjustment Adjustments through image menu: (1) Press or multifunctional knob to open the menu. (2) Use the trackball and or the multifunctional knob to adjust. Adjustment through soft menu controls The soft menu locates at the bottom of the screen, items of which are dependent upon image modes and preset. Take B mode adjusting as an example. Image mode switching: Use left/ right controls in soft menu controls <4> to switch among the modes. The soft menu items vary depending on the mode. Page up/down: Use the up/down keys in soft menu controls <4> to turn pages up or down; you can operate the items only when they are highlighted. Soft menu controls operation: a) The soft menu items are operated respectively through the five groups of soft menu controls <1>, <2>, <3>, <5> and <6>. b) You can also move the cursor to the certain soft menu item, press <Set> or rotate the multifunctional knob to adjust. Adjustment through image parameter area: The image parameter area is located in the upper left corner of the screen. The image parameters are displayed while the image menu is not available. (1) Move the cursor to the item on the parameter area, and a frame will be around the certain item, as. (2) Press <Set> to adjust, and rotate the Multifunctional knob to select the values. Adjustment through control panel: Trackball, control panel key, knob or sliders. Adjustment through grayscale/ color bar: Move the cursor onto the grayscale/ color bar, and press <Set> to switch among the grayscale/ color maps. 10

9 Image Optimization: B 1. Enter the animal information, and select the appropriate probe and exam mode. 2. Press on the control panel to enter B mode. 3. Adjust parameters to optimize the image. 4. Perform other operations (e.g. measurement and calculation) if necessary. In real-time scanning of all image modes, press on the control panel to return to B mode. Changes the FOV position of the probe. Adjusts the scan area. Changes B steer angle of linear probe. Turns on/ off trapezoid function of linear probe. Merges images of two windows in Dual mode. Gray correction for an image to obtain optimum map. Obtains high frame rate images in single B mode after THI is on. Rejects image noise and makes images smooth. Adjusts contrast resolution of an image, compresses or expands gray display range. 12

10 Image Optimization: M 1. Select a high-quality image during B mode scanning, and adjust to place the area of interest in the center of the B mode image. 2. Press on the control panel, and roll the trackball to adjust the sampling line. 3. Press on the control panel again or to enter M mode, then you can observe the tissue motion along with anatomical images of B mode. During the scanning process, you can also adjust the sampling line accordingly when necessary. 4. Adjust the image parameters to obtain optimized images. 5. Perform other operations (e.g. measurement and calculation) if necessary. Control Panel Gain Time Mark Speed Display Format Changes the M mode gain---- rotate <itouch> knob. Turns on/ off the time mark display in M mode image. Increases or decreases the M mode sweep speed. Selects the display format of M mode image with B mode image. Frequency Changes the current probe frequency. A. power Selects the acoustic power value. Menu Gray Map Focus Position Dynamic Range IP (Image Processing) Colorize Colorize Map M Soften Post Process Edge Enhance Selects among post processing map curves to optimize grayscale images. Changes the focus number. Adjusts contrast resolution of an image, compresses or expands gray display range. Selects among groups of image combination parameters to optimize the image. Turns on/off the colorize map display. Selects among available colorize maps. Rejects noise to make images clear. Gray correction for an image to obtain optimum map, including curve, γ, Gray rejection. Increases image profile, so as to distinguish image boundary. 14

11 Image Optimization: Color 1. Select a high-quality image during B mode scanning, and adjust to place the area of interest in the center of the image. 2. Press to enter B+Color mode. Use the trackball and to change position and size of the Region of Interest (ROI). 3. Adjust the image parameters and perform other operations (e.g. measurement and calculation) if necessary. Control Panel Menu Gain Invert Baseline B/C Wide Dual Live B Display Frequency Scale Flow State Changes the Color mode gain---- rotate <itouch> knob. Inverts the color bar so as to change the flow display manner. Changes the velocity display range. Sets and constrains the maximum width of the B mode image to that of the Color ROI. Turns on/ off a synchronous display of B image and Color image. To turn on or off the B image display as Color imaging remains active. Selects the frequency value in doppler mode. Changes PRF to adjust the velocity display range. Optimizes flow images by preference. A. power Selects the acoustic power value. Priority Packet Size Color IP Map Wall Filter Line Density Smooth Persistence Focus Position Steer Sets the flow priority to play: grayscale or color signal. Adjusts the sensitivity of detecting low-velocity flows. Selects among groups of image combination parameters to optimize the image. Selects among groups of image display effects. Filters out signals of low speed flow. The function determines the quality and information of the image. Rejects noise and makes the image smooth. Smooth processing of an image. Adjusts the color focus position against the ROI position. To steer the color image without moving the probe. 15

12 Image Optimization: Power 1. Select a high-quality image during B mode or B+ Color scanning, and adjust to place the area of interest in the center of the image. 2. Press to enter B+Power mode. Use the trackball and to change position and size of the Region of Interest (ROI). 3. Adjust the image parameters to obtain optimized images. 4. Perform other operations (e.g. measurement and calculation) if necessary. Control Panel Gain Invert Dynamic Range B/C Wide Dual Live B Display Frequency Scale Changes the Power mode gain---- rotate <itouch> knob. Inverts the color bar so as to change the flow display manner. Adjusts the transformation of echo intensity into color signal. Sets and constrains the maximum width of the B mode image to that of the Power ROI. Turns on/ off a synchronous display of B image and Power image. To turn on or off the B image display as Power imaging remains active. Selects the frequency value in doppler mode. Changes PRF to adjust the velocity display range. 13 Image Optimization: PW/CW 1. Select a high-quality image during B mode or B+ Color (Power) scanning, and adjust to place the area of interest in the center of the image. 2. Press / to adjust the sampling line, The sampling status will be displayed in the image parameter area on the left part of the screen as follows: The sampling correction angle value will be displayed above the image, as described in the following table: PW Sampling Line SV Size SV 3.0 Adjustment Angle Angle 0 CW Sampling Line Adjustment SVD SVD 10.5cm Angle Angle 0 CW Focus Position SVD 13.2cm 3. Set the position of the sample line by moving the trackball left and right, and set the SVD by moving the trackball up and down, adjust the angle and SV size according to the actual situation. 4. Press / again or to enter PW/CW Mode and perform the examination. You can also adjust the SV size, angle and depth in the real-time scanning. 5. Adjust the image parameters during PW/CW mode scanning to obtain optimized images. 6. Perform other operations (e.g. measurement and calculation) if necessary. 17

14 TDI (Tissue Doppler imaging) TDI Exam Protocol Enter TDI User-defined key for TDI: (1) Enter [Setup] (by pressing ) [System Preset] [Key Config] to assign the key. (2) Press the user-defined key to enter TDI. In real-time mode, click [TDI] in the soft menu or menu to enter the corresponding TDI mode as follows: In Color mode, click [TDI] to enter TVI mode, parameters of TVI mode will be displayed in the soft menu. In Power mode, click [TDI] to enter TEI mode, parameters of TEI mode will be displayed in the soft menu. In PW mode, click [TDI] to enter TVD mode, parameters of TVD mode will be displayed in the soft menu. In M mode, click [TDI] to enter TVM mode, parameters of TVM mode will be displayed in the soft menu. Switching between the TDI modes In TDI mode, press,,, to switch between the modes. 15 Special Imaging Mode: Free Xros M Assign a user-defined key for Free Xros M: Enter [Setup] (by pressing ) [System Preset] [Key Config] to set. Real-time Imaging 1. In real-time B mode or M mode, adjust the probe and image to obtain the desired plane. 2. Click [Free Xros M] in the soft menu or menu to enter Free Xros M mode, or press the user-defined key. 3. Adjusting the M-mark (single or multiple) line to obtain optimized images and necessary information. In Dual-split or Quad-split mode, it is the current activated window that enters the Free Xros M Mode. Imaging in Freeze Mode 1. Free Xros M imaging of images in cine memory For B frozen images, press <M> or click [Free Xros M] in the soft menu, or press the user-defined key directly. For B+M frozen images, click [Free Xros M] in the soft menu, or press the user-defined key directly. For B+PW/ CW frozen images, enter single-b cine memory first and click [Free Xros M] in the soft menu or press <M> on the control panel, or press the user-defined key.). In the dual-split or quad-split scanning, it is the current activated window that enters the Free Xros M mode, and press to switch between the images in dual-split or quad-split B mode images. 2. Adjust the M-mark line (single or multiple) and image parameters to obtain optimized images and necessary information. 22

Parameters that can be adjusted to optimize the Free Xros M mode image are indicated in the following. Item Show A Show B Show C Angle Adjustment Display Function There are 3 M-mark lines available, each with a symbol of "A", "B" or "C" at the one end as identification and an arrow on the other end as a mark for direction. Click [Show A], [Show B], [Show C] in the soft menu or menu to display or hide the sampling line, and the corresponding image will be displayed on the screen once the related item is selected. When the M-mark line is activated, move the trackball to adjust the fulcrum of the line, and adjust the angle by adjusting the [Angle] in the soft menu or the multifunctional knob. This function is to adjust the display of the images when there is more than one M-mark line. 23

16 Color M Mode Enter Color M mode Color Flow M mode In B+M Mode, press <Color>. In B+Color, B+ Color+ Pw or B+ Color+ CW mode, press <M>. Color Tissue M mode(tvm) In Color Flow M mode, click [TDI] In B+TVI/TVD, or B+TVI+TVD mode, press <M>. In Color Flow M mode, click [TDI] in the soft menu or press the userdefined TDI key. Exit Color M Mode Press <Color> or <M> on the control panel to exit Color M mode. Or, press on the control panel to return to B mode. ROI Adjustment The ROI size and position determine the size and position of the color flow or color tissue displayed in the Color M mode image. Set the position of the sampling line by moving the trackball left and right, and set the ROI position by moving the trackball up and down. Set the ROI size by moving the trackball up and right. Press to switch between the cursor status between the ROI position adjustment and ROI size adjustment. Press freeze mode. on the control panel to switch between the real-time mode and 24

17 Special Imaging Mode: 3D/ 4D The quality of images reconstructed in the Smart3D mode is closely related to image quality, angle of a B tangent plane and scanning technique. Refer to Operator s Manual (Basic Volume) for details. Basic Procedures for Smart 3D Imaging 1. Select the proper probe and connect it to the ultrasound system. Make sure there is sufficient gel on the probe for scanning. 2. Select the scanning probe and exam mode, and do parameter setting if necessary. 3. Obtain a 2D image. Optimize the image as usual. 4. Enter 3D/4D imaging preparation status: Press the user-defined key on the control panel; or, Click [3D/4D] in the soft menu of B mode; or, Move the cursor onto the image menu, navigate the cursor to [Other] item and press. Select [3D/4D] in the Other menu to enter the 3D/4D imaging mode. 5. Switch to Smart 3D mode by clicking [Smart 3D], and define the ROI and curve VOI. Roll the trackball to change the ROI size and position and VOI position, press the key to switch among the statuses of changing ROI and VOI. 6. Select a parameter pack, set parameters in the soft menu accordingly. 7. Click [Start]; or, press on the control panel to begin the 3D image acquisition. The system enters 3D image viewing status when the acquisition is completed; or, you can finish the acquisition ahead by clicking [Stop] in the soft menu (or press or on the control panel). 8. In image viewing status, the system supports the following functions: Parameters adjustment in 3D image render mode. B-mode parameters adjustment. Set the display format. View the surface data Define VOI box position. Rotate 3D image Image zooming Image edit. 3D image parameters adjustment. Reset ROI 25

Select [3D/4D] in the Other menu to enter the 3D/4D imaging mode. 5. Switch to static 3D mode by clicking [Static 3D], and define the ROI and curve VOI. Press to switch among the statuses of changing ROI and VOI. 6. Select a parameter pack, and set parameters in the soft menu accordingly. 7. Click [Start]; or, press on the control panel to begin the 3D image acquisition. The system enters 3D image viewing status when the acquisition is completed; or, you can finish the acquisition ahead by clicking [Stop] in the soft menu (or press or on the control panel). Select the scanning probe and exam mode, and do parameter preset if necessary. 3. Obtain a 2D image. Optimize the image as usual. 4. Enter 3D/4D imaging preparation status: Press the user-defined key on the control panel; or, Click [3D/4D] on the B-mode soft menu; or, Move the cursor onto the image menu, navigate the cursor to [Other] item and press. Select [3D/4D] in the Other menu to enter the 3D/4D imaging mode. 5. Switch to 4D mode by clicking [4D], and define the ROI and curve VOI. 6. Select a parameter pack, and set parameters in the soft menu accordingly. 7. Click [Start]; or, press on the control panel to enter the 4D image realtime displaying status. 8. Press key on the control panel to freeze the image. Do image editing, rotation, annotation, image saving if necessary. 9. Exit 4D. Press to return to Static 3D acquisition preparation status; or, Press to exit Static 3D mode. 28

18 Special Imaging Mode: iscape You can perform the iscape panoramic imaging feature on B real time images using all linear and convex probes (including 4D probes). To perform iscape imaging: 1. Connect an appropriate iscape-compatible probe. Make sure that there is enough coupling gel along the scan path. Set parameters if necessary. 2. Enter iscape: Click [iscape] in the soft menu in B-mode; or, Press the user-defined key on the control panel; or, Move the cursor onto the image menu, navigate the cursor to [Other] item and press. Select [iscape] in the Other menu to enter the iscape imaging mode. 3. Optimize the B mode image: In the acquisition preparation status, switch to [B] page tab to go for the B mode image optimization. Do measurement or add comment/body mark to the image if necessary. 4. Image acquisition: Click [iscape] page tab to enter the iscape acquisition preparation status. Click [Start Capture] or press on the control panel to begin the acquisition. The system enters image viewing status when the acquisition is completed. 5. Exit iscape: Press to return to iscape preparation; or press button to return to B mode. If it is in the capture status, click [Exit] in the menu; or, press the key. 29

19 Image Display Splitting Display The system supports dual-split and quad-split display format. However, only one window is active. Dual-split: press <Dual> key on the control panel to enter the dual-split mode, and using <Dual> key to switch between the two images; press to exit. Quad-split: press <Quad> key on the control panel to enter the dual-split mode, and using <Quad> key to switch between the two images; press to exit. Image Magnification Enter Zoom In the real time scanning or freeze status, press to enter the zoom status. Zoom Adjustment Rotate the multifunctional knob to change the magnification factor. Rotate the multifunctional knob to the left to decrease the magnification factor; rotate to the right to increase the magnification factor. The magnification factor is displayed in the image parameter area and menu area. For example, indicates the current magnification factor is 1.3. Roll the trackball to change the zoom position. Exit Zoom Press again or to exit the zoom status. izoom (Full-screen Zooming) According to the region to be zoomed, the system supports two types of fullscreen zooming: The first type is to zoom in the standard area, including image area, parameter area, image banner, thumbnail area and so on. The second type is to zoom in the image area in the full screen. 1. Assign a user-defined key for izoom: Enter [Setup] (by pressing ) [System Preset] [Key Config] to set. 2. Open the image (or the under scanning image), press the user-defined izoom key once to zoom in image in the way of the first type, and then press the key again to zoom in the image in the way of the second type. 3. Press the user-defined key again to return to normal status. 30

20 Cine Review The system supports manual review as well as automatic review so as to review stored images. Review Cine Images 1. Press the key to freeze an image (set Entrance When Frozen as Cine via press [System Preset] [Image Preset] ), and the system automatically enters the manual cine review. 2. Roll the trackball to change the direction and speed. 3. Click [Auto Play] on the soft menu to start the auto cine review and adjust the speed. 4. Roll the trackball to change the auto review to manual review. 5. Press the <Cine> key or key to exit the cine review. Set an Auto Cine Review Series (Cine Clip) 1. Set first frame: Manually review the images until the frame which you want to set it as start point, and then click [Set First Frame] to set it as the start point. 2. Set end frame: Manually review the images until the frame which you want to set it as end point, and then click [Set End Frame] to set it as the end point. 3. Use the soft menu control to click [Auto Play] to set the value (except 0), then the system enters the auto cine status, and use this control to adjust speed. 4. Click [Auto Play] again or roll the trackball to enter manual review status; or press <Cine> to exit cine reviewing. 5. Click [Skip to First]/ [Skip to Last] to review the first or last image. 6. Click [Save Cine] in the soft menu to save the cine images of the set region. Cine Compare 1. Open a cine file to enter the cine review status. 2. Click [Cine Compare] to be "On" to enter the window of different frames. 3. Roll the trackball or rotate the multifunctional knob to review the images; switch the window by pressing. 4. Click [Cine Compare] again to exit cine compare or press to exit cine review state. Tips: cine compare can only be performed on single-format 2D images only. 31

21 Save, Review and Analyze Images To save images 1. Press the user-defined save key to save a single-frame image to the database of the system in the format of FRM. 2. Press the user-defined save cine key to save a cine file image to the database of the system in the format of CIN. 3. To save the stored files of the system to another memory or in another format: click the button below the thumbnail area, or click [Backup] or [Send To] on the istation screen or Review screen. To review images You can review all images stored in an exam, and send, delete or analyze the stored images. 1. After the images of the current exam are stored, the thumbnails of the images are displayed on the right side of the screen, and you can review them through the thumbnails. 2. Press to enter the Review status; or, 3. Select an exam of an animal in the istation screen, and click [Review] to enter to review the images of the animal. To analyze images For the image analysis, you can view, zoom, perform post processing and measurements, add comments and perform cine (multi-frame) review for a stored image. 1. In the image scanning or freeze status, double-click a thumbnail stored in this exam to enter the image analysis status; or 2. In the Review status, select a thumbnail and click [Open] or directly double-click the selected thumbnail to open the image. 3. Press to exit image analysis. 32

22 Comments and Body Marks To add a comment: 1. Enter comment status: Press ; or, Press any alphanumeric key to enter the comment status, and the corresponding letter or numeral is displayed besides the cursor; Or, Press 2. Set the comment adding position. to enter the arrow-adding status. 3. Add comment to the image. Here, you can modify, move or delete a completed comment. 4. Exit comment: In the comment status, press. In the arrow-adding status, press. Press or other mode key. Trace 1. In comment status, click [Trace] in the soft menu to activate trace. 2. Roll the trackball to a desired position, and press to confirm the start point. 3. Roll the trackball to move the cursor along the edge of the desired region and trace the outline of the region. Rotate the multifunctional knob anticlockwise, to cancel trace of 1 pixel. Rotate the multifunctional knob clockwise, to restore trace of 1 pixel. Press <Clear> to clear the trace(s). 4. Press to finish a tracing. 33

Add Body Marks 1. Press to enter the body mark selection status. 2. Select the body mark. Move the cursor onto the desired body mark to highlight your choice (See the figure below). 3. To adjust the probe position and orientation marker: Roll the trackball to place the probe marker in the correct position; Rotate the multifunctional knob to adjust the orientation. 4. Press the key to confirm the position and orientation of the probe marker NOTE: and exit the body mark mode. The system supports to add two body marks in one image window. To add two body marks, set the [Current BM] to be 1st, and after the first one is added, set the [Current BM] to be 2nd to add another one. 23 Measurements You can perform measurements on a: zoomed image cine review image real-time image frozen image The measurements consist of general measurements and application measurements. General Measurements 1. On the image, press the user-defined key to enter the general measurement status, the corresponding menu is displayed. 2. Move the cursor onto the measurement tool, and press. 3. Move the cursor onto the desired position and press to fix the measurement caliper, or press to cancel the operation. Application Measurements 1. On the image, press to enter the application measurement status, the corresponding menu is displayed. 2. Move the cursor onto the measurement tool and method, and press. 3. Move the cursor onto the desired position and press to fix the measurement caliper, or press to cancel the operation. Refer to the help information displayed below the image during a measurement. CAUTION: During a measurement, if you unfreeze the image or change the exam mode, the measurement calipers will be cleared and general measurement data will be lost (the application measurement data are stored in the report). 35

24 Report & Print Report To view report Press to enter the report screen. To edit report Editing measurement data: move the cursor to the measurement text box and press to edit. Adding/ removing images: click [Image] in the report page to pop the image operation screen. Analyzing report data: click [Analyze] to analyze the items by preset. Clear data: click [Clear All] to clear all measurement data. Entering ultrasound remarks Export report: click [Export] to export the report in RTF format. Exit Report Press or click [OK] to confirm the modification and exit. Press modification key or click [Cancel] in the screen to exit without saving Print Report print In Report screen, click [Print] or press the user-defined key for report print. Image print Press the user-defined key for image print. Select the image to be printed on the istation or Review screen, and click [Send To] to select the printer to print. Select the image in the thumbnail area, click print. and select the target printer to 36

25 Setup To change the factory default settings, perform setup operations. Press to enter the setup screen, click the item to enter the corresponding screen: [System Preset]: to preset settings for general information and functions. [Exam Preset]: to preset exam modes for probes, and the specific image, measurements, comment and body marks setting. [Image Preset]: to preset image parameters for the specific exam modes. [Measure Preset] & [Comment Preset] & [Body Mark Preset]: to preset for specific exam modes. [Network Preset]: to set for network connection properties. [Peripheral Preset]: to set for printers and DVR and etc. Setup data management Select [Manage Settings] on the Setup menu to display setup data manage screen: Select the desired setup data in the Export field, and click [Export] to export the selected data. Select the desired setup data in the Import field: To restore the factory setup data, click [Restore Factory] in the Import field. Click [Import] in the Import field to import the desired setup data. Click [Import All] or [Export All] to import or export all setup data. To restore all the factory setup data, click [Restore Factory] at the bottom of the screen. To view and save system information Select [System Information] in the Setup menu: View detailed information. Click [Save] to export system information. 37
