Mappings and content location (either in FET, LEIT or SCs) DE FRH R CZ IT PT SI NL DK SE BE PL MT CY HU [ ]Need to see general introduction and ICT in other pillars [ ]Proposers will need diagram or table describing new locations of current FP7 ICT objectives in different challenges in H2020. [ ]We therefore deem necessary a comprehensive overall description of ICT in H2020 as a guide to would be proposers, especially SMEs. [ ]we recommend, to edit and/or print out all the ICT related WP parts and call fiches, together with the LEIT- ICT WP in one book. In the electronic version it should be similarly indexed for the easier readability. The general introduction to the work-programme and the introduction to the LEIT workprogramme have been sent to the Committee. In addition we plan to provide in the near future a small overview guidance document on where you find ICT in H2020 with specific indications to help SMEs. The electronic version of the WP will be searchable with tags allowing each participant to easily find the topics she is interested in. The Commission has no plans to distribute printed version of the Workprogramme. BE There is no clear link between the high level strategy and the proposed actions. Indeed, while the Horizon 2020 Strategic programme for the 2014-2016 Programmes clearly frames European economy to be more innovative, productive and competitive whilst using fewer resources and reducing environmental impact, only a minority of topics mention resource usage and/or environmental impact in their Expected impact (as is the case with ICT 6). We suggest that every topic includes some indicators or targets to these strategic objectives. There will be a systematic tracking of Sustainable Development expenditure in H2020. H2020 Regulation mainstreaming and expenditure targets are: 60% for sustainable development 35% for climate-related activities The actual mechanisms for tracking are being implemented. Moreover, in addition to topics you mention, there are other which address the need for lower energy consumption e.g. in topic ICT4. DG CONNECT is also proposing to add the potential for sustainable growth within the impact evaluation criterion. IE ES For all ICT topics across the whole programme, we ask the Commission to provide a list of which units in DG CONNECT are responsible for which topics. The Commission will not provide such a list for the time being. The WP implementation is a collective effort and responsibility. NO the current ICT WP text echoes known items, but it does not address the challenges created by the fragmentation and dispersion of ICT to different parts of Horizon 2020. The threat that these challenges may pose to the achievement of the main H2020 objective of a better integration of research and innovation, does not appear to be acknowledged. The structure of the H2020 programme with the 3 pillars have been stable and agreed for quite some time. The exercise on strategic programming have shown how H2020 can achieve a better integration of R&I in specific focused areas that are important for the European society. The pervasive nature of ICT do mean that ICT is needed in a large number of areas. This we see as a strength not a weakness of the programme.
ICT 6 FR Add "Facilitate optical metro and core networks with Pb/s throughput and Tb/s interface speeds" as part of Expected impact; ICT 6 FR Comment on Innovation action, "Prizes", "OK but why here"?? OK, added We agree that the prize has to be highly visible as per the F comment, that's the reason why a 1M budget has been targeted. In our view, this is an area that lends itself to competition across research teams and which is highly science intensive. A presentation of this prize at the recent ECOC conference confirmed this and lots of enthusiasm was shown for such a new approach to research. ICT 6 IT Request under "Scope" to refers to wideband devices, smart antennas, and propagation model The smart antenna is taken into account. Propagation models will be implicit when studying higher frequency bands, so no need to specify explicitly. The notion of "wideband" is already conveyed through spectrum aggregation. ICT 6 IT Amendment "should" for the satellite related text OK, This has been taken into account through implementing the suggested text from the UK delegation. ICT 6 IT Add " attention should also be paid to the integration (interconnection) of existing networks in order to create larger interconnected networks for data, voice and signals with different social purposes (alert systems, monitoring, )" We agree this is important but this corresponds to one particular use case driving the technologies. The ICT 6 objective is (advanced) technology related and as such the objective is to support the widest possible number of use cases and requirements, without majoring on any particular one. ICT 6 ES Comment on the Smart technologies title, supporting the use of VLC as an access technology VLC is a particular access technology, and it is accepted that it is a possible access avenue in indoor environments. Much work was carried out on this topic under the FP7 "OMEGA" project, and the proposed text does not preclude R&D on VLC access networks. Consequently, it is not suggested to major on one particular technological approach in one particular use case scenario. ICT 6 ES Optical networks part, bullet i) requested to add word "management" and clarify delta compared to previous work OK to add the management part We are aware that research on cross domain management of optical resources is an established R&D topic. There are still multiple issues to solve in an SDN context and standards need to be established. The expected impact has thsu be complemented with a reference towards need to progress towards industry standards. ICT 6 ES Optical part, add: v) smart OAM mechanisms in converged optical networks ; vi) new architectures supporting the integration with 5G wireless systems. OAM should be covered by bullet i) and the 5G related architectures are covered in ICT 14, from the perspective of an integrated/managed wireless/fixed access continuum. ICT 6 ES Wireless part, add ref to increased frequency reuse, white spaces and spectrum up to 100 GHz. Frequency reuse is just one mechanism to satisfy the generic requirement of "flexible spectrum use" already in the text. White space usages are also another one, not so much in the research domain (OFCOM legislation on how to deploy such capabilities). We hence suggest not to modify the text here. The upper limit of the frequency bands has been extended to 90 GHz.
ICT 19 2015: Technologies for creative industries, social media and convergence. Specific Challenge: The demand is growing for high-quality content and new user experiences. At the same time, thanks to ubiquitous technology adoption, widespread use of mobile devices, broadband internet penetration and increasing computing power the consumption of content anywhere, anytime and on any device is becoming a reality. Consequently, developments related to content creation, access, retrieval and interaction offer a number of opportunities and challenges, also for the creative and media industries. ToIn order to keep pace with the trends and remain competitive, those industries need to explore new ways of producing, creating and accessing content and of engaging their users.. The opportunity to establish new forms of content and content creation and accessuser engagement could be transformative to many businesses in creative and media industries. Scope: The focus is on research, development and exploitation of new or emerging technologies (e.g. 3D and augmented reality technologies) for digital content creation to support the creative and media industries and for unlocking and interacting with complex information and media and interacting with them. The topic will be addressed by the following actions: a. Research & Innovation actionsactions: Research in new technologies and tools to support creative industries in the creative process from idea conception to production. The proposed tools should explore the potential of technology to enhance the human creative process from the expression of ideas to experiment solutions. Where possible, research should aim to improve understanding and support the dynamics of collaboration and user-community interaction. should be improved based on research leading to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of co-creative processes. The tools developed should be cost effective, intuitive, and be demonstrated in real-life environments relevant for the creative industries (such as advertising, architecture, arts, design, fashion, films, music, publishing, video games, TV and radio). a. Innovation actionsactions Demonstration of the viability of new technologies and validation of innovative solutions through large scale demonstrations, pilots or testing of use cases so as to guarantee sustainable deployment that facilitate convergence and integration between broadcasting, broadband Internet-based services, audio-visual and social media. Multimodal and multidisciplinary approaches for searching technologies answeringresponding to the new demands from the content side (3D, user-generated, real-time media, social media, ) and from the user context (context-centric, semantic, relevant community feed-back, ). This also includes new forms of experiencing environments (immersive, surrounding, multisensory and interactive, in any device, always connected). a. Coordination and Support Actions on Convergence and Social Media Facilitate research and policy exchange in Convergence and Social Media: increased awareness of latest technological developments and research results among policy stakeholders and increased awareness of current and future policy and regulatory framework among researchers. Support R&D programmes/activities, dissemination of results and organisation of scientific and/or policy events in Convergence and Social Media. Analysis and development of research agendas and roadmaps, prestandardisation initiatives and stakeholder coordination in Convergence and Social Media Expected impact: Research & Innovation actionsactions Validated novel ICT technologies and tools supporting the creation process, and delivering measurable benefits for the creative industries as regards time and resource investment, and quality of output.
