RS422 multiplexers to optic fibre singlemode (SM) ELO E24B ELO E249, ELO E24A Two independent RS422 duplex channels Data rate 0 230 kbps voltage DC 9-24 V MM-2 km, SM-15 km Multiplexer concentrate two completely independent f duplex RS422 interfaces to a pair of optic fibers. The fibers can be SINGLE MODE (SC connctors) or MULTI MODE (SC or ST connectors). Use of the multiplexers A pair of multplexers communicate over the optic fibers. If the communication is correct, the LINK indicator is alight. The maximum data rate of each channel is 230 kbps, minimum is 0. Multiplexer does not need any adjusting. The 120 Ω internal terminators can be connected to all RS422 inputs and outputs. Modem ELO E24B is designed for singlemode fibers 9/125 µm. Its range is typically 15 km, optic connectors are. For multimode cables 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm there are models ELO E24A with SC connectors and ELO E249 with ST ones. 2x Tx, 2x Rx Type of RS422 connector DB9F duplex Fiber optic cable E249/E24A two multimode fiber Optic connectors E249/E24A ST/ Fiber optic cable E24B two singlemode fiber Optic connectors E24B Maximum data rate of each channel 230 kbps Length x Width x Height 120 x 80 x 25 mm ELO+, spol. s r.o., CZ397 01 Pisek, Na Spravedlnosti 741, www.elo.cz, sales@elo.cz, +420 382 213 695, fax +420 382 213 069

RS-232 to Multimode Fiber Optic Converter ELO E146, ELO E147 Miniature case TxD, RxD transferring Max. data rate 115.2 kbps voltage 6 V DC Max range 2 km RS-232 is the interface with asymmetric signals. The maximum load capacitance can be 2500 pf. It corresponds to the 50m of the typical twisted pair cable. The load impedance can be 3-7 kiloohm and it enables to induce the disturbing impulses even from the soft supplies into the cable. The asymmetric signals can not eliminate the influence of the signal grand s potential drifts. Therefore the RS-232 interface is destined for the point-topoint connection at 15 m distance. The end devices (DTE) must have the same signal grand s potential. Principles of Operation ELO E146, E147 converts TxD signal to transmitting optic cable and the signal from the receiving cable converts to RxD signal. This way the full duplex connection can be realized. In the idle mode the E146 model's transmitter lights and E147, does not light. The maximum transmission speed is 115 20. The control and status signals are not transmitted. There are the local loops RTS-CTS and DTR-DSR-DCD. Using Fiber Optic Converter The fiber optic cable is resistant against the electrical disturbances and against the influences of the atmospheric electricity. It gives the maximum protection of the DTE and the high reliability of communication. RS 485 to Multimode Fibre Optic Converter ELO E171 Minimum data delay Al case - for DIN rail mounting voltage DC 9-24 V Link range 2 km Fiber Optic (SINGLE MODE and/or MULTI MODE) has been used for signal transmission in automation for communication more and more often. The main advantage of Fiber Optic is its immunity to electromagnetic interference, slight radiation and high transmission capacity Use of the converter These problems can be solved if the converter ELO E171 (MULTI MODE) is applied. ELO E171 transfers signal received from RS-485 interface to transmitting fiber of the optic cable and the signal from receiving fiber is transmitted to RS-485. Besides the signal transfer, the converter matches the full duplex fiber to the half duplex RS-485 (data-flow direction switching). Its independent operation is based on the set data rate (1200 to 11520) and data format which must be asynchronous of 10 and/or 11bits (start bit, 8 to 9 information bits, stop bit). The switching speed is sufficient to use the converter in data transmission network organized as MASTER-SLAVE and MULTI MASTER. The converter also corrects bits width distortion which could occur during transmission. RS-422 / Multimode Fiber Optic Converter ELO E174 ST connectors Duplex transfer of TxD, RxD ing voltage DC 6V Al case - for DIN rail Max. range 2 km RS-422 (V.11) is a duplex interface for two devices communication. The symmetric signals are transmitted via the twisted pair and they are immune to the interference. Maximum range is 1200m which can be increased using repeaters. Use of the converter The fiber optic cable is immune to electromagnetic interference and atmospheric electricity influences, it provides maximum DTE protection and high communication reliability. The distance between devices is not more than 2-3km so using multimode fibers is economically convenient in automation. Maximum data rate limit is 115.2 kbps. LED diodes indicate the transmitted and received signal. Power supply connection To supply the converter, the external power supply of 6V via SCJ 2.5mm connector (yellow diode labeled 6V indicates it) or via 9 contact (IN+8V) is used, e.g. from the DTE. The green diode labeled 8V indicates this supply. The DTE receives the external supply information via OUT+5V signal, indicated by the LED of the same name. This lay out enables to back up the converter supply. The external supply is isolated from the RS-422 link. Maximum take off is 170mA. The converter transfers Tx signal of the RS-422 interface to the transmitting optic fiber and copies it from the receiving optic fiber to Rx of the RS-422 interface. RS-485 / TTL / Multimode Fiber Optic Converter ELO E175 ST connectors Half-duplex transfer ing voltage DC 6V Al case - for DIN rail Max. range 2 km RS-485 is a half-duplex interface with the symmetric signals. Up to 32 partners can be interconnected via the twisted pair. The maximum range is 1200 m which can be increased using repeaters. TTL signals are mainly designed to the logic components interconnection inside the board. The wire length can be only a few meters. Use of the converter The fiber optic cable is immune to electromagnetic interference and atmospheric electricity influences, it provides maximum DTE protection and high communication reliability. The ECHO mode switch is provided with this converter. This mode is mainly suitable for more devices connection into the optic loop network. When ECHO=ON mode (DTE is SLAVE) the data from the receiving optic fiber are copied to the transmitting optic fiber. In case DTE is MASTER the ECHO is disabled ECHO=OFF. When in RS-485 mode the converter works in the halfduplex mode. The signal from the receiving optic fiber copies to the RS-485 link. The DTE provided with RS-485 interface receives the data. If the DTE is to transmit the RTS signal has to be set and then the data from the DTE flow through the RS-485 link to the optic transmitter. When in TTL mode the DTE converter connection is duplex. In ECHO=ON mode the data received from the optic line are always copied to the DTE and the optic transmitter. The data collision can occur if the DTE transmits the data at the same time when the data from the remote DTE are received. For this reason, the remote and local DTE must not transmit concurrently. The SW DTE device has to solve these situations. When only two DTE are interconnected the ECHO receiver has to be in OFF position. Power supply connection To supply the converter, the external power supply of 6V via SCJ 2.5mm connector (yellow diode labelled 6V indicates it) or from the DTE via 9 contact (IN+8V) is used. This lay out enables to back up the converter supply. The green diode labelled 8V indicates the supply from the DTE. The DTE and the user receive the external power supply information via OUT+5V signal. The external supply of 6V is isolated from the RS-485/TTL link. The maximum take off is 170mA. Communication adapter virtual COM port over the USB to multimode optics fiber ELO E210 Charakterictics TxD, RxD signal transmission Transfer speed max. 921,6 kb/s max. 2 km (1.25 miles) Alu cover Interference immunity Nowadays, in PC computing become more popular USB interface against RS232 serial interface because of their robustness and speed. There are converters USB to COM to connect peripherials with old RS232 interface, which altogether with software drivers adds another COM port to the PC so called Virtual Com Port, VCP. E210 converts COM port to a fiber cable over the USB interface. Use of the adapter Data transmission over the optics is electromagnetics interference immune and atmospheric electricity immune. Allows maximum protection of the connected device DTE against the potential difference, overvoltage and assures reliable communication. Also, it is difficult to eavesdrop the communication. Adapter converts data stream from receiving fiber optics to a RxD signal on the virtual COM port whereas TxD signal from COM port is transmitted to a transmitting fiber optics. No other signals are transmitted. Data transmission is indicated by two LED diodes in both direction. Adapter has two switches. A IDLE switch allows to change signal polarity in fiber optics. Switched to LIGHT position, idle state is represented by 1 in the fiber, i.e. optical transmitter lights. DARK position results 0 state in the optical cable while is in idle state. LIGHT mode can be used to detect breakdown on the data path even in idle state, so it can be used in safety systems. An ECHO Switch allows choose the mode of the optical connection between two-point or ring mode of the operation. An OFF position is intended for connection of two adapters as described in previous paragraph; while ON position sends data received from optics not only to COM port, but copies it to the transmitting optics too. It allows all members on this ring optical network to receive the data packet. Communication protocol must handle data collisions.
