In my culture and upbringing, hiring a coach or mentor to guide and support me in my goals is not mainstream. If you re an athlete you hire a coach, and if you re looking for spiritual insight you go to a church or a temple but the rest of us are left to our own devices. We re implicitly taught that to attain what we seek on our own is a sign of strength and to look for help a sign of psychological weakness. The result is that for the greatest part of my life I ve been struggling, indecisive and unsure, either making random decisions and hoping for the best or staying in status quo for fear of making the wrong decision or worse failing. It wasn t until I reached my mid-forties when out of sheer frustration I hired a business coach that I realized the tremendous benefit of having someone to guide me and most importantly ask me the right questions. It was then that I gained clarity and with clarity, answers. The goal of this worksheet is to ask you the right questions, so you can have clarity; that is, you can really connect with your deep selfish desire and the reasons you haven t been able to achieve it. Once this becomes clear, then taking specific actions becomes easier because you know what to guard against and you ll have your motivation showing you the way just like a lighthouse bringing you safely home to your self. 1 Have you ever invested in your health, and would you be willing to? Yes. (Describe your investment, ex. gym membership, nutritionist, food program, private workout sessions, etc.) No. (Describe why not?
Have you ever had a coach or mentor before? Describe what this person helped you with. 2 3 Would you consider hiring a health coach and mentor? Describe why you would or why you would not. Go deeper than the surface reasons, perhaps hiring someone would mean that you lack willpower or that you re weak.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how motivated are you to getting rid of your belly fat, improving your health and going for your dreams? Be honest with yourself without getting caught in judgement! 4 5 Why do you really want to get rid of the belly fat? Why is it important for you to achieve this?
6 How would it feel if you had that? 7 What would be the best part? 8 How would it affect your health, your professional life, and your relationships with others and with yourself?
What s really stopping you? I encourage you to NOT look for outside reasons, but to look within. 9 10 What have you already tried? 11 Why do you think you didn t meet your goals? Or if you did why do you think it was only a temporary win?
12 How would it affect your health, your professional life, and your relationships with others and with yourself? 13 If you don t address this, what will your life look like in a year? 14 Are you willing to wait longer to address this?
CONGRATULATIONS! I know these questions are not as easy as they seem. They require that you look deeply within. Within you reside both your driving desire and your sabotage. That is not a judgment that is an observation. I encourage you to continue to explore your answers because in my experience, now that you opened Pandora s Box so to speak, more is going to come to surface to be revealed to you. And right now, you already have more clarity. You are more focused. And you know what to do right now, so you can go and get started on your goal. I absolutely believe in you!
