Document Overview is rooted in deep English, media, history, and science content, providing an educational and enriching experience while simultaneously providing an exciting, one-of-a-kind delve into the world of Panem. The Exhibition is aligned with 5 interconnected sets of standards:! The Common Core English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, & Technical Subjects (http://www.corestandards.org/ela-literacy/)! The Next Generation Science Standards (http://www.nextgenscience.org/)! The National Core Arts Standards (http://nationalartsstandards.org/)! The National Standards for History (http://www.nchs.ucla.edu/history-standards)! The C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards (http://www.socialstudies.org/system/files/c3/c3-frameworkfor-social-studies.pdf) Each grouping of objects, media, and graphics, as well as individual interactive experiences, is aligned with these standards as appropriate. Taken as a whole, the Exhibition addresses many of the overarching mastery skills inherent in newer standards such as the Common Core and the C3 standards.

Next Generation Science Standards Grades 7-8 Natural Resources Humans depend on Earth's land, ocean, atmosphere, and biosphere for different resources, many of which are limited or not renewable. Resources are distributed unevenly around the planet as a result of past geologic processes. Human impacts on Earth systems ESS3.A Human activities have altered the biosphere, sometimes damaging it, although changes to environments can have different impacts for different living things. Activities and technologies can be engineered to reduce people s impacts on Earth. ESS3.C Inheritance of traits Genes chiefly regulate a specific protein, which affect an individual s traits. LS3.A Natural Selection Both natural and artificial selection result from certain traits giving some individuals an advantage in surviving and reproducing, leading to predominance of certain traits in a population. Adaptation Species can change over time in response to changes in environmental conditions through adaptation by natural selection acting over generations. Traits that support successful survival and reproduction in the new environment become more common. Structure of Matter The fact that matter is composed of atoms and molecules can be used to explain the properties of substances, diversity of materials, states of matter, phase changes, and conservation of matter. LS4.B LS4.C PS1.A TM and 2015 Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved. Page 7

Next Generation Science Standards Types of Interactions Forces that act at a distance involve fields that can be mapped by their relative strength and effect on an object. Natural Resources Grades 9-12 Resource availability has guided the development of human society and use of natural resources has associated costs, risks, and benefits. Human impacts on Earth systems Sustainability of human societies and the biodiversity that supports them requires responsible management of natural resources, including the development of technologies. Inheritance of traits PS2.B ESS3.A ESS3.C DNA carries instructions for forming species characteristics. Each cell in an organism has the same genetic content, but genes expressed by cells can differ LS3.A Natural Selection Natural selection occurs only if there is variation in the genes and traits between organisms in a population. Traits that positively affect survival can become more common in a population. LS4.B Adaptation Evolution results primarily from genetic variation of individuals in a species, competition for resources, and proliferation of organisms better able to survive and reproduce. Adaptation means that the distribution of traits in a population, as well as species expansion, emergence or extinction, can change when conditions change. LS4.C TM and 2015 Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved. Page 8

Next Generation Science Standards Types of Interactions Forces at a distance are explained by fields that can transfer energy and can be described in terms of the arrangement and properties of the interacting objects and the distance between them. These forces can be used to describe the relationship between electical and magnetic fields. PS2.B TM and 2015 Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved. Page 9

Thinking Std. #5 Identify relevant historical antecedents and differentiate from those that are inappropriate and irrelevant to contemporary issues. Evaluate alternative courses of action, keeping in mind the information available at the time, in terms of ethical considerations, the interests of those affected by the decision, and the long- and short-term consequences of each. Formulate a position or course of action on an issue by identifying the nature of the problem, analyzing the underlying factors contributing to the problem, and choosing a plausible solution from a choice of carefully evaluated options.
