System Basics Primary Mic Secondary Mic C-5000 RT #1 RT #2 A C-5000 can control 2 RT s (Receiver Transmitters). Each RT has a MAIN receiver and transmitter and possible digital ITM (Internal Transceiver Module). IMPORTANT: OPERATORS MUST KNOW THE FREQUENCY RANGE EACH RT TUNES. Knobs & Buttons Soft Key Buttons are used when prompted for display dimming or special modes. The Primary and Secondary mic inputs allow two users to talk on different RT s at the same time. Begin OTAR Key Select Disable Squelch Turn On Scan All C-5000 s have memory for 350 preset channels, while units with SW 11 (also known as Civil Support units) or higher can hold 700. Channel information can be preset using the RpWin software, or by programming through the front panel. Each RT has a Manual channel (M) at channel 0 location that allows the operator to manually enter a transmit and receive frequency. Basic System Checks RECEIVE TEST TRANSMIT TEST to verify the radio is active. Reverse video will surround the system number, while the receive frequency will be displayed followed by an R. A squelch noise or received communication means the receiver portion of the radio is working. Engage the aircraft transmit push-to-talk switch to activate the mic key. The transmit indicator, also known as a carrot or arrow, will be solid when RF energy is leaving the radio. The transmit frequency will be displayed, followed by a T. If the TX indicator is hollow, only the mic key input is functioning, and the radio is not transmitting. Page 14 Page 15 150-843708 Rev. A Page 9 of 12
Subaudible Tones CTCSS (PL) Tone Codes Sometimes a special signal is added to your voice transmissions in order to distinguish your radio s signal form someone else. This is called a subaudible tone. If a tone is needed by the other people to hear your transmission, you MUST use a transmit tone. Alternatively, you have the option of turning your receiver tones off which will allow you to hear anyone on that channel. Tones OFF disables tones. The operator will not hear a transmission that utilizes any type of tone codes. CTCSS Tone ON enables CTCSS Tones. The Transmit and Receive frequency each have their own assignable tone. DCS tones are digital tones and are identified with three digits, including 0. Page 16 Page 17 150-843708 Rev. A Page 10 of 12
Volume Control The volume controls are the two knobs on the left side of the display. The inner knob (yellow) controls system 1 and the outer knob (green) controls system 2 to override the squelch and listen to the volume on your active RT. Adjust the inner knob for the desired audio level for system 1 and outer knob for system 2. to mute all audio other than the current active RT. This is a fast way to temporarily disable interfering signals. NOTE: This option is only available with SW 11 units that have been configured for the #4/DIM button to act as a MUTE control. When the dual mic mode is on, the inner knob adjusts the audio levels for both the primary and secondary headset. General Information 1) IF YOU GET LOST ON AN UNFAMILIAR PAGE: multiple times to return to the main home page and normal operation. 2) TO CHANGE OR INPUT INFORMATION: Rotate the Cursor (right outer) Knob until the underline character is below the information you wish to change. Rotate the Value (right inner) Knob until the desired information is displayed. Depress the Value (right inner) Knob to perform an ENTER operation. 3) TO SET THE VOLUMES: The inner volume knob sets the volume of your primary RT system. The outer volume knob sets the volume of your secondary RT system, if available. Page 18 Page 19 150-843708 Rev. A Page 11 of 12

Once the C-5000 is configured DO NOT MAKE CHANGES UNLESS AUTHORIZED TO DO SO BY YOUR COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM COORDINATOR!!! Remote Programmer This PC software package allows you to input your preset channels, and system configuration into a PC and then download the data to the C-5000. This software will save hours of time by avoiding front panel programming, as well as allow you to backup the data in case of a memory failure. It is recommended all aircraft locations have one copy of this software and interface cable on hand for ease of use. to save the changes. twice to exit program mode and return to normal operation when finished editing the preset channels.
