LAUREL ART GUILD NEWSLETTER January 2019 President's Message Here we are, about to begin a New Year, with new opportunities to enjoy art in a variety of ways. LAG has new programs coming, new exhibits and new workshops to help you develop - or just enjoy using your skills. There are also opportunities to enjoy each others' work at individual exhibits and opportunities to help LAG flourish by assisting with the work that keeps all this happening. Everything is in readiness to accept your entries into the 50 th LAG Open Juried Exhibit. Please remember the entry deadline is February 2 nd. I wish you all a happy, healthy and painterly New Year and look forward to seeing you at one of our activities soon. January Program Reminder: we've switched to our winter meeting schedule on the second Saturday of the month. On Saturday, January 12 at noon, at the Montpelier Arts Center, we'll be showing the film "Loving Vincent." This remarkable, highly rated, somewhat fictionalized film combines oil painting with animation to tell a story about Van Gogh's last years in the south of France. Images of his paintings are distributed throughout. Should be fun. Exhibits Our exhibit at Slayton House Gallery is over. We had one sale - Congratulations to Pauline Clatterbuck. There was a very nice article written about LAG and the show published in the Columbia Flier and also in the Laurel Leader.

I have booked three shows for 2019: March 3-31 at Ranazul (a Spanish restaurant) in Maple Lawn. The entry form is included later in this newsletter. April 8 June 14 at the Himmelfarb Gallery, Maryland University of Integrative Health, in Maple Lawn. This exhibit will have a theme (yet to be determined) and entries will be judged by the venue s art committee. It is a small show (probably about 20 paintings). August 10 October 11 Laurel/Beltsville Senior Center. We are also confirmed for Brookside Gardens in 2020. Workshops Working from Creative Vision (Mood, Atmosphere and Visioneering in Landscape Painting) Workshop with Karen Norman Saturday, April 6 (9:30 am - 12:30 pm) at Montpellier Arts Center $30 LAG members ($40, non-lag members) Maximum 12 participants ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Payment is required to reserve a place in the workshop. No refunds after March 1, 2019. Supply list will be emailed to participants. Please fill out this form and include it with your check. When your check is received, an email will be sent to confirm your reservation and provide materials list. Name of Participant: Contact phone number(s): email address: Send checks made out to Laurel Art Guild to : Sally Davies, 157 Research Road, Greenbelt, Maryland, 20770
