Introduction The refrigerator is used for keeping food fresh and cold. Over time it has changed from an ice box to a mechanical fridge. This is an ice box. Picture from e-book. This a mechanical fridge. Picture from e-book.

The Ice Box The ice box looked like a wood, rectangular box that is lined with tin or zinc and sometimes it was lined with fur. The food was stored in the bottom and the ice was stored in the top. If you didn t empty the drip pan(the drip pan is a container that holds the melted ice) the water would leak over the floor. It was created around 1800s by Thomas Moore. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you wouldn t have to cook every meal, you could save extra food for the next day. It was also positive because it was the first fridge invented so it helped people to now what to change and what to have to stay the same if they wanted to make a new type. People s lives were changed in a negative way because ice boxes were not as cold as mechanical fridges so they made people sick when they ate the food that was warmer than it should be. The ice box is also bad because you had to empty the drip pan daily. If you didn t the water would spill all over the floor.

The Mechanical Refrigerator The mechanical refrigerator looked like a rectangle with the motor on top of the fridge. It worked by electricity. The motor had to be placed in a different room, normally it was the basement. It was created around the 1900 s by Fred Wolf. People s lives were changed in a positive way because they would fit in most kitchens. It was also positive because it kept food colder than the ice box. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it cost more than a car! It was also negative because you had to pay more for the electricity bill.

My Opinion Overall, I think the change from an ice box to a mechanical fridge is positive because the mechanical fridge made the food colder and much more fresh for people then the ice box.

The refrigerator is used for keeping food fresh and helping people so their food wouldn t go bad. Over time it has changed from the Ice box to the Mechanical refrigerator. An ice box leaking. Picture from e-book A mechanical refrigerator. Picture from e-book

The ice box looked like a wooden rectangle with a top and bottom container. It was lined with tin or zinc. It worked by a drip pan that you had to empty with water from a huge ice cube. It was created around the 1800s by Thomas Moore. People s lives were changed in a positive way because their food was kept colder and you didn t have to cook every meal. People s lives were changed in a negative way because you had to empty it a lot and it took up a lot of space.

The mechanical refrigerator looked like a small rectangle with a motor. It worked by a compressor and electricity. It was created around 1900 by Fred Wolf. People s lives were changed in a positive way because it kept food colder then the ice box and people didn t get sick as often. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it cost more then a car and it had bad gases.

Overall, I think the change from the ice box to the mechanical refrigerator is positive because it kept food colder and people didn t get sick as often.

The refrigerator is used for many different things like keeping food cold and fresh. Over time it has changed from the ice box to a mechanical refrigerator. An old ice box Picture from e-book The mechanical refrigerator Picture from e-book

The ice box looked like a wooden rectangular prism with a top and bottom. They were lined with tin or zinc. The ice was on the top and the ice box was on the bottom. There was a drip pan to collect the stuff that leaked. It was created in the 1800 s by Thomas Moore. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could save food for the next day and it taught other inventors how to make better refrigerators since it was the first fridge invented. People s lives were changed in a negative way because the ice box took up a lot of space and you had to empty it daily if you didn t want water to spill on everything.

The mechanical refrigerator looked like a small metal rectangle with a compressor. A motor ran the refrigerator. People usually put it in the basement. It was created around 1923 by Fred Wolf. People s lives were changed in a positive way because it would fit in most kitchens and you didn t have to empty anything. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it cost more than a car! Also it ran by a lot of electricity so you had to pay more for the electricity bill too.

Overall, I think the change from the ice box to the mechanical refrigerator is positive because the mechanical refrigerator kept food fresher so people wouldn t get sick as often because food would be colder.

Introduction The refrigerator is used for keeping food cold. Over time it has changed from icebox to mechanical fridge. Icebox Picture from e-book Mechanical fridge Picture from e-book

The Ice Box The ice box looked like a big wooden box with a top and bottom container and was lined with tin. It worked by a big block of ice on the top kept the bottom cold and if the ice melted it would fall into the drip pan. It was created around 1800s by Thomas Moore. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you would not have to cook all the meals. Also, food does not go bad. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it took up a lot of space. You would need to change the ice three times a week.

The Mechanical Refrigerator The mechanical refrigerator looked like a small metal rectangle with a huge motor that cost more than a car. It worked by a huge motor that gave it electricity and kept it cold. It was created around 1900s by Fred Wolf. People s lives were changed in a positive way because food kept colder than the ice box and less food went to waste. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it cost more than a car. If it leaked it could make people sick.

My Opinion Overall, I think the change from icebox to mechanical fridge is positive because if you have food that you really like you can save it in the fridge.

INTRODUCTION The telephone is used for calling and communicating with far people. Over time it has changed from the cordless phone to the smart phone. The cordless phone Picture from e-book The smart phone Picture from e-book

THE CORDLESS TELEPHONE The cordless telephone looked like a square with an antenna and a lot of wires. It has a charger inside it. It has buttons to press. It worked by sending radio waves. It was created around 1969 by George Sweigert. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could talk to someone far, far away. Also you could talk to someone you haven't talked to in years. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it had bad reception, limited range, and it was too big to go to a another state with.

THE SMART PHONE The smart phone looked like a small short rectangle without an antenna. It worked by tapping the screen to call someone. It was created around 2007 by Steve Jobs. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could use the internet on your phone and it has amazing security and reception. It did not cost to much like the IBM which cost more than $900. It was very easy to put in your pocket. People s lives were changed in a negative way because the battery runs out easily. It doesn`t have 3g like other apple products have.

MY OPINION Overall, I think the change from cordless phone to smart phone is positive because you couldn t take the cordless phone to another country but now you can take the smart phone to another country. Also, you could pull it out and dial the police anywhere there might be an emergency.

Sophie

The telephone is used for communicating back and forth. Over time it has changed from the first phone to the cordless phone. The first phone Picture from e-book The cordless phone Picture from e-book

The first telephone looked like a huge wooden shoe box. It had no dials in the first part of the 1900s. It always had microphone and speakers. It worked by operator plugging the cord that was attached to your phone and plugging it into a switch board. Then the operator plugged the cord of the person you were calling into the switchboard. It was created around 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. People s lives were changed in a positive way because it made staying in touch easy and fun. People s lives were changed in a negative way because only two phones per 100 people! It was huge at first. You had to talk to an operator. Early telephones could not be moved.

The cordless telephone looked like a big rectangle with a little rectangle. It had an antenna. It worked by radio waves to send the signal from the handset to the base. It was created around 1969 by George Sweigert. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could walk around the house when you were on the phone. People s lives were changed in a negative way because you could hear other people s conversations. Sometimes the phone didn t work very well.

Overall, I think the change from first phone to the cordless phone is positive change because you could walk around with your phone and you didn't have to stay in one place. Also, you didn t need an operator any more.

The Telephone Sophie

Introduction The telephone is a device for communicating. Over time it has changed from the first phone to the cordless phone. The first phone Picture from e-book The cordless phone Picture from e-book

The First Telephone The first telephone had bells, a tube to talk into, speakers, had no dials, a cord, and a hearing piece. It was connected by invisible sound waves and it looked like a wooden box. It worked by people could talk into a tube and then the operator came on and you told the operator what number you wanted to call. It was created around 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could communicate without walking. It was a big change! People s lives were changed in a negative way because there were only 2 phones per every hundred people.

The Cordless Telephone The cordless telephone had no wires attached between the handset and base. There were no wires but there were radio waves. There was an antenna and there were handsets and bases. It worked by dialing a number and you didn t have to talk to an operator anymore. It was created around 1969 but started to get used in homes in 1980. It was created by George Sweigert. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could walk around the house when you were on the phone! People were glad about that. People s lives were changed in a negative way because at first they were about $400. You could hear other people on their cordless phones. At first the cordless phone had poor sound quality and it had limited range.

My Opinion Overall, I think the change from the first phone to the cordless phone is positive because the first phone was big and the cordless phone was smaller so it was easier to carry and you could walk around the house with the phone.

INTRODUCTION The telephone is used for calling people so you don t have to run there. Over time it has changed from cordless to smart phone. This is a cordless phone. Picture from ebook This is a smart phone. Picture from ebook

THE CORDLESS TELEPHONE The cordless telephone looked like a square with a rectangle on top. Also it had an antenna. It worked by sending radio waves from the hand set to the base, sort of like a cell phone. It was created around 1969 by George Sweigert. People s lives were changed in a positive way because they didn t have to stay in one spot when talking on it. People s lives were changed in a negative way because you could loose reception in a emergency or something important.

THE SMART PHONE The smart phone looked like a big rectangle with antenna. It worked by the phone sending the words to a radio tower then to the other phone. It was created around 1993 by IBM. People s lives were changed in a positive way because you could send small data. Also it had a computer to research stuff. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it cost over $900 dollars, almost $1000 dollars.

MY OPINION Overall, I think the change from cordless to smart phone is positive because you could send work data. Also it had a computer so you could look up stuff.

THE TELESCOPE Peter

INTRODUCTION The telescope is used for seeing things far away close up. Over time it has changed from Newton s (reflecting) telescope to the Hubble (space) telescope. Newton s (reflecting) telescope Picture from ebook The Hubble (space) telescope Picture from ebook

NEWTON S TELESCOPE (REFLECTING) Newton s telescope looked like a fat short tube with a joint that can move. It worked by focusing the light and that s how the image got bigger. It was created around 1668 by Sir Isaac Newton. People s lives were changed in a positive way because they could see farther and it sort of had no blurriness. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it had blurriness around objects.

HUBBLE TELESCOPE (SPACE) The Hubble space telescope looked like a big fat long telescope with solar panels on both sides and the reflector was 94 inches. It worked by taking pictures and then returning the pictures to the scientists lab. It was created around 1970 by NASA. People s lives were changed in a positive way because there was no air so it could take clear photos. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it took a long time to fix, about three years.

MY OPINION Overall, I think the change from Newton s telescope to the Hubble telescope is positive because it doesn t have any blurriness so it could take clear photos of outer space. So they could learn more about space.

Newton s telescope looked like it had a corkscrew on the back, it had a movable joint, and it was attached to a wood sphere (it was made out of wood). It worked because it had a primary mirror and a secondary mirror. It was created around 1668 by Sir Isaac Newton. People s lives were changed in a positive way because they found out more about space like the planets are not flat. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it was not big enough to see a whole lot of space so they could only see some of space.

The Hubble Telescope (space) had two long solar panels, 94 inch long reflectors ( eight feet long), and is made out of metal. It worked because it sends pictures to satellites and they send it to NASA. It was created around 1970 by NASA. People s lives were changed in a positive way because everyone could learn more about stars, planets, and even other galaxies. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it was so big it took one year to fix.

Overall, I think the change from Newton s (reflecting) Telescope to Hubble (space) Telescope is positive because Hubble took pictures of space from space and could educate children and adults but Newton s couldn t as much as Hubble could.

Introduction The telescope is used for looking at things that are far away. Over time it has changed from Galileo s refracting telescope to Hubble space telescope Galileo s refracting telescope (Picture from e-book) Hubble space telescope (Picture from e-book)

Galileo s Telescope (Refracting) Galileo s telescope looked like a long, thin tube. It worked by using two lenses called the primary lens and the eyepiece lens. It was created around 1609 by Galileo Galilei. People s lives were changed in a positive way because they could see things in space and things that are far away closer up. People s lives were changed in a negative way because the images from the telescope came out blurry and it had fuzzy, colored lines around it.

Hubble Telescope (Space) The Hubble space telescope looked like a huge, wide, reflecting tube. It worked by going into space, taking pictures, and sending it to NASA with its satellites. It was created around the 1990 s by NASA. People s lives were changed in a positive way because now since it s invention, you can see pictures of space and galaxies. People s lives were changed in a negative way because whenever the Hubble telescope broke down, it took people one year to fix it.

My Opinion Overall, I think the change from Galileo s telescope to the Hubble telescope is positive because now people get to see what is in space without blurriness.

NEWTON S TELESCOPE (REFLECTING) Newton's telescope looked like a fat short tube with a joint that can move. Over time it has changed from Newton's telescope to Hubble space telescope. Newton's telescope looked like it had a corkscrew thing on the back of it. It worked by a primary mirror that captured all the light to help you see better. It was created around 1668 by Sir Isaac Newton. Peoples lives were changed in a positive way because you could see the sky better and it sends pictures to satellites so we can see the pictures. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it was way smaller and it was still hard to see space.

HUBBLE TELESCOPE (SPACE) The Hubble Space telescope has a disc shaped lens. It worked by sending pictures to satellites. It was created around 1990 by NASA. People s lives were changed in a positive way because the air bends the light and it could take pictures because there is no air in space. People s lives were changed in a negative way because it can sometimes be too big. It can also get into the orbit of another planet.

MY OPINION Overall, I think the change from Newton s telescope to Hubble s telescope to is a positive change because Hubble s telescope is a lot bigger and makes it easier to see stuff in space better.
