Dear Parents and Carers, We have created a list of books to help you support your child s reading development. There is a wealth of children s literature out there, with hundreds of great new reads being published every week. This list is meant as a guide and is by no means exhaustive. This selection has been chosen because these books support children learning to read and in their development as readers. T he selection includes a variety of m odern and contemporary picture books, short chapter books by celebrated children s authors, quality non-fiction, traditional tales and poetry. Also included are a range of literary heritage texts, (famous writings from the past which still influence the present e.g. The Velveteen Rabbit, Paddington Bear) which may be difficult for children to read independently at this age, but some children will be able to access such texts with the support of an adult.
