Copyright by Elodis Subwoofer 13 ELODIS-SUB DSP-2500 4to8 Technical details (1): Amplifier: Class D UCD Technology Power ratings: TRUE SINE WAVE AVERAGE POWER Please notice: The following power ratings are somewhat different (conservative) to other published power ratings but much more practice-oriented for subwoofer applications (measurement shows stiffness of power supply) Vrms based calculating (P=Vrms 2 /R) by using sine steps Procedure: sine steps 500 ms on 500 ms stop (below 4 Ohms 250 ms on 500 ms stop) - and so on, 1/6 oct, 30-5000 Hz*), additional measurement at 50 Hz for power ratings @ 50 Hz continuous 5 s minimum, pre-conditioned with several series of measurements at rated power measured at 230 Volts/50 Hz, load precision high power ohmic resistors, environmental temperature 25 C: *) 30-5000 Hz is the chosen bandwidth for power measurements. This active module can be switched in a standby mode by using the power switch on the control panel (mounted on the front of the loudspeaker cabinet). Power consumption at standby mode is very low 0,5 Watts! No further remote controls are provided. The 2-pole main switch on the electronics module will power-off this unit completely (when not in use for a longer time period). Power consumption at this mode is 0 Watt. This active module is not equipped with measurement software or automatic measurement software as standard. For best possible results all settings should be done and verified by hand based on measurement data. Nevertheless an advanced and convenient measurement software including an optimizer is available on request.

No clearly temperature rise measurable on the transformer cabinet surface up to 400 Watts Protection: Overvoltage, overcurrent, DC, overheat (85 C heatsink temperature), shorted output Protection circuits are self-resetting. When the cause of the failure has been removed, the amplifier will starts again. Warning LEDs: Clipping, overheat, amplifier failure

Copyright by Elodis Subwoofer 18 ELODIS-SUB DSP-2500 4to8 Some useful information (1) Amplifier driven at loads below 3 Ohms: This amplifier is able to drive loads down to 1 Ω. But notice the following recommendations: At very low impedances the amplifier shuts down at the current limit of 50 Ampere (Hiccup mode after limiting for 40ms) High continuous sine wave power levels (not recommended, = no proper use) are able: to blow the unit main fuse (T10A, time lag, 250V) to blow power line fuses to blow the 2 internal rail fuses (F16A, quick-acting, 250V) to overheat the amplifier (amp shuts down at 85 C heatsink temperature) If high power levels at very low impedances (around 2 Ohms or less) are required continual, the version ELODIS-SUB DSP-2500 2to4 could be a better option. The only different to the 4to8 version are the lower rail voltages (less heating). Fans: The two 80 mm fans are implemented to reduce heating at higher environmental temperatures and at the same time high continuous power levels. The fans will never start up at accepted listening habits. Please note: By calculating a crest factor of 12 db (music program, dynamic compressed) the average power will be around 200 300 Watts at rated power (clipping LED begins to flash). The fans will start up at continuous sine wave power levels > 400 Watts (4 Ohms) at 25 C environmental temperature. The fans are decoupled from chassis. Due to the optimized internal airflow super-silent (low speed) fans can be used.

Copyright by Elodis Subwoofer 19 ELODIS-SUB DSP-2500 4to8 Some useful information (2) Do not test the ampifier by using continuous sine wave signals! That is not what an audio amplifier is made for! High power ratings should be considered as welcome dynamic headroom When this amplifier will be measured take care that NO ONE of the amplifier outputs will be grounded to the measurement equipment or elsewhere directly due to the bridged topology of the amplifier!! Risk of damage! Measurements and maintenance may be done exclusively by qualified personnel!! Risk of electric shock and amplifier damage!! Do not drive the amplifier in permanent clipping mode (permanent lighting up clipping-led); In further consequence amplifier shuts down. When the clipping-led begins to flash reduce input level! To improve the sound performance up to the rated power no limiters are implemented Power ratings are specified at 230 Volts/50 Hz Increased or decreased voltages at the power supply line will increase or decrease the specified power ratings Do not use power strips! Use 1 wall power outlet for 1 ELODIS-SUB DSP-2500 High distorted power lines are able to decrease the performance of transformers This unit must be earthed/grounded (Class 1)
