Removing a Drawer to Add Counterweights (Lateral Files and Combo-Cabinets). Remove screws connecting drawer body to suspensions. 2a 2b 3 2. Toward the rear of the drawer, use a flat-blade screwdriver or pry bar to disengage the drawer body barbs from the suspensions. 3. Lift drawer out of suspensions. 4. If removing more than one drawer, de-activate the interlock of the opening from which the previous drawer was removed. Insert the top of the counterweight plate(s) under the z-brace on the back of the case (5a) and rotate in (5b). The counterweight plate(s) will rest on the floor of the case and against the back of the case. Install one () #8 x /4" self drilling screw near the center of each counterweight, approximately /4" from the bottom of the z-brace (5c). 6a. For counterweight packages with a bottom flat plate and a Universal Base: Apply four (4) double-sided adhesive pads to the underside of the flat plate. Locate the bottom plate by self-locating to the front of the counterweight plate and pushing downward to adhere the plate to the base. 6b. For counterweight packages with a bottom flat plate and feet: Apply four (4) pieces of double face tape equally spaced on the rear support brace. 8b Removing a Drawer to Add Counterweights (cont.) 7 8a REAR END OF SUSPENSION 8c Removing a Drawer Suspension(s) for Installing the Side Counterweight(s) TIP: Pull suspension out to gain better leverage. 7. With a pencil (or non-permanent marking method) mark the location of the suspension on the case side. 8. Remove suspension by turning the bottom of the suspension outward so the bottom front tab is disengaged (8a). Pull upward so the top front tab is disengaged (8b). Push suspension rearward (8c) and remove suspension. 9a 9. Insert the side counterweight behind the bottom suspension and rotate in and down as shown (9a). Slide the side counterweight towards the back of the case as far as possible (9b). 9b NOTE: If you are installing a RAACW5, RAACW6, RAACW7, or RAACW8 you need to install a second (narrower) side counterweight on the left hand side the same as the right hand side. Locate rear suspension tabs into slots (0a). Pull suspension forward (0b). Insert front/top tab into the slot by twisting suspension slightly and pushing towards the case side (0c). Pull downward and rotate the bottom/front tab into the lower/front slot (0d). TIP: When reinstalling drawers, make sure to place the drawers in their original positions. 0a 0b Page 6 of 9
Bookcase Counterweight(s) NOTE: Double-sided adhesive pads are very difficult to remove. Ensure proper placement before applying pressure. NOTE: Clean all surfaces where adhesive pads will be applied, using alcohol and a clean cloth. Double-sided adhesive pad (2) counterweights are required for 30, 36, and 42 wide bookcases () counterweight is required for 24 wide bookcases. Remove one release liner from the two (2) double-sided adhesive pads and apply to the counterweight as shown. Press firmly on pads to ensure good adhesive contact. Remove the release liner from the exposed side of the adhesive pads. 2a NOTE: The quantity of counterweights required are dependent on the width of the bookcase (see illustration). 2b 2. Place counterweight(s) on top of the bookcase bottom shelf (2a). Center a single or a pair of counterweights left-to-right and slide back until the double-sided adhesive pads contact the inner back of the bookcase (2b). Press firmly. Counterweight Case bottom 3. Apply two (2) double-sided adhesive pads to the surface of the counterweight(s) facing the front opening of the bookcase. Avoid placing pad(s) on top of a hole in the counterweight. Remove the release liner from the pads. 3 4. Carefully place the cosmetic cover over the counterweight(s) as shown. Be sure the holes face up to allow access to the rear glides. Push extended drawer slides back into the case to prevent damage and avoid injury. 2 5. If removing more than one drawer, de-activate the interlock of the opening from which the previous drawer was removed.
