STUDENT NAME STUDENT ID Starting a Business as a Natural Health Consultant by Kay K. Larson (2011) CLASS: G800 Grade /77 % 1. Definition: Health is when the cells in the body are functioning at capacity carrying out the functions they were to do. 2. The medical model of health is: No, normal test results. 3. Orthodox medicine s definition of cure: something that eradicates. 4. The true definition of cure is a catalyst that causes the body to restore cells back to normal homeostasis by regenerating, healing and knitting together. 5. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxamine), a natural occurring substance, has officially been classified by the FDA as a. Now any nutritional supplements containing pyridoxamine can be consider adulterated and illegal by the FDA. 6. The four main reasons for getting credentials as a natural health consultant: (a) You need to learn basic natural principles. (b) People equate the letters after your name with. (c) To have an effective practice, you need effective. (d) An open door for continuing education by attending designed for practitioners. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 1

7. There is legislation in some states [Texas and Oregon at the time of this writing] attempting to make criminals out of anyone who advertises themselves with from a non-usde accredited school. 8. There are also certificates with titles you can get through course programs from schools such as holistic health practitioner (HHP), natural health consultant (NHC), natural health educator, etc. You should be able to set up a business with any one of them, it just depends on what you and can do with your time, money and effort. 9. The bottom line is this: you them, they will come. As in any field, the cream rises to the top. 10. Accreditation: A term frequently used by educational institutions. Although some institutions use the term accredited, it is of little value and does not any legal rights or good standing within any of the 50 states. 11. Private/Professional Accreditation: At the present time nearly all natural health colleges and institutes hold some kind of private/professional accreditation, because the public demands it. Private accreditation does give some degree of to the public, although it is relatively easy to obtain. 12. Certified: Groups often gain a voice within states merely because a large number of people have joined their ranks and desire to possess the title certified. The bottom line is, the term certified is no better than the group, association,, or agency that grants it. 13. Definition of Iatrogenic Death: It means death induced by, usually by drug reactions, surgeries and/or diagnostic procedures, even when administered correctly. 14. is the third most leading cause of death in America. 15. You have a right to practice as a nutritional consultant, but you must avoid at all costs practicing without a license. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 2

16. What you say and don t say is key. I do nothing for arthritis, but rather I help people with arthritis attain. 17. Some researchers estimate that up to of natural health consultants are guilty of practicing medicine without a license. 18. Here s how you d handle this. You would say, and I had arthritis, I would take the following supplements and eat the following foods. 19. But if you say, If it were and I had diabetes, I would take XYZ as it could help reduce my blood sugar and strengthen my pancreas. You ll be fine and within the law. 20. You could also say, have shown people with diabetes taking XYZ have shown improvement. 21. Get in the habit of using yourself as an when talking about diseases and organs whether in the office or not. 22. Do not refer to those you see as patients, but as. 23. Be cognizant of the areas you must avoid which are: a. Disease b. Administering or prescribing X rays c. Advising discontinuance or physician-prescribed. d. Cures, or therapies (anything falling under prescribing, including natural cures and dietary treatments) e. Invasive procedures (such as drawing blood or IVs) f. Surgery g. Manipulations (such as chiropractic or osteopathic) h. yourself as a physician 24. You will teach the clients; therefore leaving the concerning their own health where it belongs, with them. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 3

25. If you truly understand and believe that the majority of health problems are due to toxicity,, deficiency of water, lack of exercise and a negative mindset, then you will have no trouble staying within your legal parameters. 26. You will want an [assessment] system that s objective,, and accurate, along with being easy for the client to understand. It will also need to have identifiable and markers allowing tangible progress to be tracked. 27. Whatever system you use, you make clear to each client that none of these devices is for diagnosing any disease or condition. They are for detecting imbalances and so an appropriate program can be developed. Forms 28. Never, ever, consult with anyone without a signed (consent to treatment) form(s). (See page 143) 29. Include a document from your local Better Bureau requiring arbitration in lieu of going to court. Nutritional Determination Permission and Authorization form (See page 144) Family History Form (See page 145) Client Information Form (See page 146) Symptom Health Survey (See page 147) NOTE: There are client symptom forms on the student portal that Genesis provides for students. The forms you choose to use should be the ones that are useable by YOU. Changing them as you have more experience is a good practice. 30. The Report of Findings (ROF) is a form that you will give to your clients detailing the of all assessments you have used. Note: It is also acceptable to write the findings on the Supplement Recommendations (Tailored Health Program) sheet you will give your clients. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 4

31. Prepare an, tailored health program, resultant of your assessment(s). Have it on a separate sheet from the ROF. (See page 148) 32. Avoid the mention of any in your notes that your client may have. The Right Office Location 33. Find a place you re with. Take your time and find the right one, because it s where you are going to be spending a lot of your time. 34. Being organized and having easily accessible will make your life so much easier. 35. Open a account and make tax deposits on a weekly basis. And here s the key: don t touch the account until it s time to pay them! Marketing 36. Just be sure all your materials clearly explain your services in a simple and concise manner. 37. almost always determine what enters the household concerning health and nutrition. 38. As your practice evolves, seriously consider finding that one area that you are about, and really focus your energy there. 39. Lecturing: 1. Name your lecture in a way that s attention grabbing. 2. When you pick a subject to speak on, pick one that you truly want to help clients with. 3. Your talk should be under an. A lot of the information you give them [your audience] may be totally new and you don t want to overwhelm them. 4. When speaking to an audience you must not on the negative. 5. Always know your audience. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 5

6. Always come with business cards, brochures, and a price list. 7. Have a sign-in sheet with spaces for name, email, and phone contact. 40. Get from professionals. 41. Many entrepreneurs join networking groups where they can with other professionals seeking to make their services known. 42. Teachers and day-care workers are an market. They re always sick as they re in constant contact with children. 43. Facebook, and LinkedIn are now considered legitimate and necessary marketing venues for many businesses. 44. You must be clear of what it is you really are marketing as a health consultant. It is not natural health, your programs, or your great products (although obviously they play a big part.) It is you are ultimately marketing, and you must always remember that fact. Practice Management There are a few ideas in this section that Genesis does not agree with or teach. It is hard enough for people to take time off from work to see you without needing to schedule an appointment every few days or a few times a month. Payment in advance? 20 minutes for a consultation? Genesis Model Schedule 1-1/2 hours for new tests and 1 hour for retests. It will take 10-20 minutes to greet, seat, and review the symptom survey and ask additional questions that the survey triggers depending on if it is the first test or if anything significant has changed in their life. Even a vacation can bring back parasites, viruses, bacteria (or the local restaurant!). Then you need to talk about the top concerns they have, children, work, eating without a clear picture, how are you going to get to the root of an issue(s) instead of just making recommendations based G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 6

on symptoms? It will take another 5-10 minutes after testing to write down and explain how to use the supplements and what to expect. Without time how are you going to form a trusting relationship. A relationship that will grow because you really do listen and get to the bottom of issues. A relationship that brings there whole family into see you as needed. A relationship that brings sisters, moms, friends Without a relationship you are just like the doctor - tell me the problem and take this and make another appointment and gotta run I only have 10-20 minutes for you. It is true that you do not want to bore them with facts and figures. They do however need an understanding of how their body works and why you are giving them the supplement. Example: Your client had their gallbladder removed and were told they don t need it anyway. It is up to us to tell them why they had a gallbladder and how not having one will affect their life and what do to about the problem. Simply saying, take this is not educating your client. Herbs, homeopathics, supplements is it physically possible to resupply trillions of cells in a couple of weeks? Is it possible to eliminate parasites and candida throughout 25 feet of bowels in a couple of weeks? Do we need to micromanage the body with frequent changes? NO, NO, NO. If it takes 30-45 days to finish a round of a parasite formula and you also have them on probiotics to re-establish territory, and they have started minerals and vitamins to resupply the cells the retest should be in 2 months! It is very individual and each individual deserves the time needed to listen, explore, explain, educate, and plan the best course. 45. The first appointment is perhaps your most important one. This is where you will find out the potential client s true for coming to see you. Note: 10 minutes for the most important meeting? 46. A personally designed client-program is not just the products; it s everything; diet modification, supplements and the with you. Note: Can you do this in 20 minutes or less? 47. Very few people value anything they get for nothing. If it costs nothing then to most people it s worth nothing. And besides, paying is part of the. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 7

48. A way to help clients (and yourself) financially is to a package where they pay in advance. Note: Get paid for your time and knowledge as you provide it for your clients. Deal with root causes and peeling the onion and seeing them all the time to micromanage the body becomes unnecessary. 49. Word-of-mouth referral is the highest compliment a client can pay me, so I want to encourage and the person who did the referring. I do so with a program call Health Bucks. Note: You do not need to discount your work. Referrals are given because people care about the person and trust you to help them. 50. Marketing studies have shown that when the appointments go over minutes (follow-up visits), credibility for the practitioner goes down. Note: This may be true for doctor visits but I do not trust that it applies to health consultations. 51. Don t be tempted to think that just because your consultation is by, you should be charging less. You are dispensing life-changing information regardless of how it s dispensed. Note: Have a set fee for phone/email consulting that is added to their invoice of supplements. Current clients are getting their supplement refills from you and you are seeing them 1 to 6 times per year depending on health issues. If it is a simple sinus/cold or other issue that does not really require a physical test, you could just have them stop in and pick up a formula (based on what they are already taking and there health weakness - you know because you actually spend time with them!). Problem Solving 52. I could not help this woman as she really didn t want to get well. Her illness was her and she was just using me to show the world that I was yet another health professional that couldn t help her because she was different. Not everyone who comes to see you wants what you have. Note: If you truly are unable to care for someone, if you just don t connect, it may be best to refer them to someone else. Another time to refer to others is when you are not qualified to work with the level of unhealthy the person is expressing. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 8

53. Only take children if their parents will to a health-building program at the same time. Because if the parents won t the children won t. Note: You must meet your clients where they are and some are so far away from ideal that having them make 1-2 changes at a time is all they can mentally handle. I would never turn someone away from the chance of educating them - if it is slow it is slow. 54. I always tell people that it will take commitment and to change their condition I also point out that it s going to take money for supplements and appointments. In addition I make clear that although they don t have to give up all their offending foods and habits immediately (unless their condition warrants it), I expect them to to the program we have set out. If they do not agree to these conditions, I will not work with them. Note: Don t come from a point of ego. Work with them, encourage them every time you meet to make an additional change - or finally make that one change. Let them know that they can take all the supplements you have and it will not help them if they continue to, - of course only say it if it is true. If they continue to smoke does it mean you are unable to help them with candida? NO! 55. How well you will have much to do with the compliance factor. If you let them get away with behavior, you will not be helping them. Note: We are here to educate and encourage change. We are not their keepers or their parents. You can not force or humiliate or condemn people into change. 56. When dealing with clients, always work with them using steps. a. Most people wouldn t be able to handle such a dramatic change even if they wanted to do it. b. Secondly, they will experience a and the more toxic they are, the worse it will be. 57. Never suggest to a brand new client that he/she have all their silver removed. 58. Do everyone the day before to confirm the appointment time. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 9

59. No company has the best products for, no matter what they claim. It is more expensive to carry numerous lines, but you will have better results. 60. If your clients think you are using them to build a [multi-level or network-marketing] business, they may feel that their is being violated and question your loyalties. 61. The first rule [for deciphering online information] is to know the information is coming from. 62. Isn t it amazing how so few people know how to listen? When someone is speaking are you to what they re saying or are you already planning on what you will say next? 63. Be humble and teachable. Along with school and seminars, you will probably learn the most from your. 64. But where your clients are concerned, always know that they are for seeing you than if they never saw you at all, even if your program is not perfect. G800 Genesis School of Natural Health - 10
