Landing Interviews

Welcome One way to begin to establish your self as the expert and to help promote your business is by landing interviews from others. And landing them isn t as difficult as you might believe. Having others interview you gives you a whole new audience to connect with. Much like Guesting, you are put right in front of that brand // websites audience. With every interview, it gives you more visibility; more interest in you, and it is free marketing. It just cost you the time the interview takes. I have to say that doing interviews are MY FAVORITE part of marketing I love having people ask me questions that I already know the answer too. Seriously, it makes my job easier and it helps spread the word about my business Many believe that you wait for someone to ask you to be interviewed but this isn t dating. You must PITCH yourself The more you get out there, the more people will begin to knock on your door.

Where to start?? The first and best place to start look? Your favorite Podcasts. Podcast are not only the hottest marketing trend but you don t even have to brush your hair for them Make a list of which ones do interviews or the ones that have expert guests on. Next, think of communities, blogs and websites that you know do interviews. Can you add more to your list? No worries if not. First you want to let people know you are ready and open for interviews through your social media and online networking groups. Seriously, post and announce it. Don't be shy. Being shy will not get you interviewed Posting in your Facebook or LinkedIn Groups is a definite social must too. Do that NOW. I ll wait. Next begin searching online for sites that do interviews on Women Entrepreneurs or Mom Entrepreneurs or whatever describes who you are and your target keywords. You can also set up Google Alerts to notify you whenever something comes up under those terms in a saved search. Click here to set up Google Alerts. Now that you have a few viable contenders, how do you find out which sites you should really pitch to? I m so glad you asked, keep reading to find out how to qualify them before sending out your pitch.

Do Your Research You don t want to waste time and energy on interviews that won t be heard by your ideal clients. First up, you can check their Alexa.com ranking to see the amount of traffic that is hitting their site and where they rank in the US or Country. This is a great tool to use when pitching for any guest postings. Social Media Their social media sites and shares on their website can give you an insight into how active their community is. Or how active they are on updating their social media sites. You want to make sure the audience is actually listening. Delegate it Out Delegate these steps out to your Virtual Assistant so that you can focus on creating the content for these interviews. If your Virtual Assistant knows your business enough to pitch for you, create a sample template for them to follow and pass this along to them. They can also follow-up with any pitch sent out for you. Use the Excel Tracking Sheet to track your Interview Pitches.

Pitch Yourself This is a great time to pitch to any local / state television shows, you may also want to contact local magazines, radio stations, and newspapers. These are all great resources to feature on your site once the interview is over. Find 5-7 people, blogs, sites, publications that you could pitch yourself to because we are about to write your pitch. Keep it short but powerful. You want to send your topic angled for their audience. Do your research to confirm they have not already had your topic featured. Using trending topics are a great way to pitch. Using a negative title with a positive spin will also get their attention. For example: Did you know your cellphone is dirtier than your toilet seat? How to properly clean your electronics.

Sending Your Pitch Locate the appropriate contact person or email to send your pitch to. Their website is a great resource to check and locate their Media or Public Relations contact. If you don t hear anything back in 2-3 days from them, follow-up. They are busy and may have missed your initial pitch. Use the bonus excel tracking sheet to keep track of the pitches you ve sent out so you don t send something twice.

Sample Pitch Email Template Below is just a sample guide to get you started, it is always best practice to customize each and every email to fit the person you are pitching and the topic you are sending. Hi there NAME, { Always greet and address by name. } I am a fan of your site and would love to introduce myself. { Introduce yourself and how you know them } Insert a short, powerful, intriguing story about you and your business. { Begin to describe your post and why it would benefit their audience. } As a follower, I would love to share with your audience how technology makes success possible when you leverage it with your marketing. Women are often intimidating by technology and I think this post will help them see how it can really help them. I currently teach women entrepreneurs about technology and the systems to use to build their empires. I believe your audience would greatly benefit and enjoy this interview. You can find out more about me and contact me by: INSERT CONTACT INFO Please let me know if this is something that you would be interested in. Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you { Optional - Attach MEDIA KIT }

Your Bio Once accepted, they will request that you send over your headshot and author bio. Make sure it rocks Usually around 100 words that tells the short story of you and your business in a powerful way. In order to write a killer bio follow these steps. 1. Google your favorite business women and read what they have included in their bios. 2. Tell a story what inspired you to start your business. What do you do to help others? 3. Write for your Brand. Keep your bio consistent with your Brand when creating it. 4. Show your personality. Make sure your bio sounds like you wrote it, not someone else for you. Everything should have your voice and brand. 5. Put your accomplishments and awards in your bio. This helps create your social proof for your business. This is something you can customize depending on the type of article and audience you are reaching.

When the Interview Goes Live This is a major step to take in this process. Do NOT skip over it. You want to make sure everyone knows about this interview that is in your audience. You want everyone to have their eyes on your interview. This could help you get an invite for a second. Make sure that you: Always let your list know about anything going on like this. Set up a series of social posts Tweet, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ whatever ones you use, add different post as the interview nears. Write a blog post about the interview before and how they can attend. Write a blog post after the interview is over. If it was video, see about getting their embed code. If it was an audio, see if they can email you the mp3 recording. If it was a written article, grab the article and link to it And of course, do NOT forget to personally and publicly thank the person that interviewed YOU. This took time from their schedule, they are promoting you, and helping expose you to a new audience. Be grateful

Stat Tracking Keep track of all of your date and stats to use in future pitches. Find out how many views your interview received. How many social shares it might have received, any analytics that can help you land future interviews. This is social proof that you rock And great to add stats to future pitches to large networks Press Page Create a running list of all of your interviews on a Press Page. A Press Page is a great tool to also help you land more interviews as you are pitching yourself. It displays your Social Proof all in one spot. Create a collection of those logos into a Social Proof badge for your website. you can take a look at mine below.
