Monday, August 12 Reykjavik Arrive in Iceland s capital city of Reykjavik this morning and meet your full-time Icelandic tour manager. Breakfast is included before we tour the Reykjanes Peninsula as well as Reykjavik s lovely city center and charming harbor area. This afternoon we check into the Grand Hotel Reykjavik or Fosshotel Reykjavik for two nights. Meet your traveling companions at a welcome dinner at the hotel this evening. Friday, August 16 Petra s Stones, East Fjords, Dupivogur, Hofn Oh, what a day we have in store for you today! Admire the gorgeous fjord landscapes along the winding roads of the east coast of Iceland. Along the way we ll learn about a fascinating woman named Petra and her unbelievable stone and mineral collection. Have lunch and enjoy a stroll around the picturesque fishing village of Djupivogur. Later this afternoon, we ll get our first glimpse of Vatnajökull Europe s largest glacier covering eight percent of Iceland. Check into the Hotel Hofn or Hotel Vatnajokull for an overnight stay and dinner. Tuesday, August 13 Iceland s Golden Circle (Breakfast, Lunch) Our day begins with a stop at the Kerid Crater, a volcanic crater lake, which is considered relatively young at only 3,000 years old! Next, we are on our way to Friðheimar to learn about the beautiful Icelandic horses and their special qualities. See a horse show and then pet these very friendly creatures. Walk next door to a geothermal greenhouse to learn about how tomatoes are grown in Iceland and then be treated to a wonderful fresh tomato soup and homemade bread lunch. This afternoon at Geysir Hot Springs you can stroll around the geothermal fields. Have your camera s ready to capture the quick blast of steam that blows every 5 to 10 minutes. We then continue to Gullfoss, a spectacular two-tier waterfall that tumbles into the Hvítá River. Our final destination today is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an interesting history. Be amazed at the dramatic fissures that illustrate how the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are drifting apart. Experience a relaxing soak in the warm geothermal seawater of the famous Blue Lagoon on an optional excursion this evening. Saturday, August 17 - Jokulsarlon Lagoon, Vatnajökull National Park, Skaftafell, Kirkjubaejarklaustur, Eldhraun, Vik At Jokulsarlon, you ll see an incredible glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, and will likely also see a multitude of seabirds and seals swimming in the glacial waters. After time to take photos, we ll board a small boat for a cruise through the lagoon where the spectacular views and the photo opportunities will be endless. In Skaftafell we ll stop at the national park visitor s center for views of Iceland s highest peak. See the beautiful waterfall in Kirkjubaejarklaustur that is surrounded by massive, vivid green, moss covered rocks. In Eldraun you ll be amazed at the eerie views of over 216 square miles of moss covered lava rock. Arrive in Vik where we ll check into the new Hotel Kria. There will be an optional horse ride on Icelandic horses offered on the black sand beaches before dinner at the hotel. Wednesday, August 14 - Akureyri We ll take a quick, scenic flight to Akureyri, Iceland s Capital of the North. Shop and have lunch along the charming pedestrian street and enjoy the views of the harbor from the Church of Akureyri. The warmth of the summer sun brings plenty of food to the Eyjafjörður and with it comes the larger-than-life Humpbacks. During our afternoon whale watching cruise we hope to see several whale species, dolphins and porpoise. Enjoy the beauty of the fjord as we sail! This evening we will lodge in the heart of the city at the Hotel Kea Akureyri. Sunday, August 18 Dyrholaey, Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss (Breakfast) Start the day with a visit to Dyrholaey for incredible views of Iceland s south coast including The Three Sisters standing tall in the Atlantic Ocean and the fascinating assembly of balsaltic columns. Then we re off to admire the powerful Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls each different than all the falls we have seen. You can even walk behind one of them! Then we are on to the airport for our late afternoon return flight. We will arrive home the same day with wonderful memories of Incredible Iceland! Thursday, August 15 - Goðafoss, Lake Mývatn, Dimmuborgir, Námaskarð, Dettifoss (Breakfast, Lunch-to-go, Dinner) We ll travel to an important spot in Iceland s history, Goðafoss, the waterfalls of the Gods. You ll be amazed at it s beauty! Next, we make our way to Lake Mývatn, known for it s geological wonders and beautiful views. Walk through a fascinating lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir and be sure to keep an eye out for the trolls who are said to live there! At Námaskarð you ll see bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras. Then we head through the uninhabited highlands and moonlike surrounding to East Iceland. Marvel at Dettifoss, Europe s most powerful Waterfall.
