Page 29 Watch Band Stitch-Out Instructions Fabric & Thread Needed Fabric Type Choose medium weight dark color fabric. Lightweight fabric results in a band that does not hold its shape. Heavy weight fabric is too thick to slide through the watch slot. Fabric Size Both sides of the watch band stitch out at the same time. We recommend a 10 x 10 size of fabric hooped into your 4 x 4 hoop. Threads Use your favorite machine embroidery thread. We have listed six different brands for your convenience. Watch Band Assembly Instructions (Carefully Read all Directions before Assembling!!!) Before Beginning - Determine your wrist size!! The size of the watch band has been designed to fi t medium sized wrists. If your wrist is smaller, attach two snaps so that the tail of the blunt end does not peek out. If yours wrist is larger, leave extra fabric on the blunt end so that the snap can be attached to the unstitched fabric.* Check fi t before sewing on fi nal snap in all sizes. 1.After stitching is complete you are ready to assemble your watch band. Carefully cut bands into two pieces as illustrated below. YOU MUST LEAVE 1 ¼ OF UNSTITCHED FABRIC BEYOND THE ENDS THAT WILL GO THROUGH THE SLOT OF THE WATCH FACE AND 3/8 OF UNSTITCHED FABRIC ON THE REMAINING THREE SIDES. (If design does not have a pointed end choose one to fold into a point) --> 3/8 unstitched fabric from stitching to edge of fabric (3 sides) Stitched Design Area --> Watch Band end for slot of watch face *Lengthen here if needed for larger wrist size --> Stitched Design Area --> --> --> 1 ¼ from end of stitching to end of fabric for slot --> Watch Band end for slot of watch face 3/8 unstitched fabric from stitching to edge of fabric (3 sides) (Directions continued on page 29)
Page 30 Watch Band Assembly Instructions (continued) 2. Cut included grosgrain ribbon into four 4 1/2 lengths. Machine or hand stitch the grosgrain ribbon close to the stitching on the four front sides of the band. (See A) 3. Fold in raw edges of the point/blunt ends. (you may need Fray-chek here). Fold in grosgrain and hand stitch together. Tuck in the grosgrain straight across on the pointed end. (See B) A Front side of band. Fold Fold B Back side of band Fold Fold 4. Fold over long sides all the way up and hand stitch center together up to within 1 of the end of the decorative stitching on the slot ends. (See B) 5. Trim the seam allowance of the slot fabric to 3/16 and fold in slightly. This should be as thin as possible (but with a fold on each side) because the slot is narrow. ( see B ). 6. Unwrap watch face and slide the unstitched ends into the slots and pull through until the stitching shows on the back side. Hand stitch to sides firmly and tack through stitching across band with tiny stitches. Trim slot fabric to 3/4 and tuck under the ribbon that is open. (use fingernails or a pencil) Fold down raw edges of ribbon and C 7. Handle the watch carefully to avoid battery malfunction. To start the battery press in watch face stem. 8. Stitch sew on snaps to each end positioning to the size of your wrist. (or sew on tiny Velcro dots). 9. Enjoy your fashionable watch!
Page 31 Assembly Directions for Puff Bead Necklace 1. Stitch the five graduated beads on a large hoop or the sets of two and a large single bead on the small hoop. Use a light fabric as this is solid stitching. You can make a necklace of all five with purchased beads* in between, a set of three beads, or two beads with a pendant in the center. The 14ct. beads will be fatter and the 16 and 18 ct. thinner. 2. Trim finished stitching apart; the short ends are the seam, and the long sides are trimmed to ½ then pressed over ¼ to the wrong side. 3. Seam the short ends together on the machine, or butt together by hand. If you use the machine, the beads have to be turned by folding in with your finger or an eraser end of a pencil and this is tricky. If you seam by hand, you will probably have to use a binding stitch with one of the colors to cover the seam line. You now have a tube shape. 4. Using a needle and thread, stitch a running stitch around all folded ends. Leave tails so you can gather up as in step#5. Cut foam hair rollers* the length of your stitching (there are 3 sizes-small medium & large,so cut 2 of the same size at the same time). If your beads are the fat variety buy the large size, but the medium work on the all counts. 5. Twist foam rollers into the tube slowly until even on both ends, or insert tweezers through the tube and pull into place. Pull up running stitch on both ends and tie with several knots, leaving a hole in the middle for stringing. 6. The beads are now complete, ready to string on a necklace using satin cording (approx. 1 ½ yds.) or ribbon, on a bracelet using elastic, as a single scissor fob, as a key chain fob, as an eyeglass necklace, or as a Xmas ornament. After stringing onto cord, knot ends need last bead to hold in place, and knot ends to prevent raveling. *Beads, spacers, and rayon cording can be purchased at the big box stores, fabric stores, and local bead shops.
