PWWS December Newsletter PWWS Christmas Potluck Don't miss December 13th PWWS ghering 6:30 p.m. Big Stone Lodge. As is our tradition, December PWWS meeting will consist a Christmas Pot Luck! Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share - anything you want to bring like a main dish, appetizer, salad, dessert, etc. PWWS will provide tea & wer & cups. Come & join fun! HEART Sculpture Dedicion by Carole Allen On November 10th, new Kemps Ridley Turtle stue was dediced in Galveston and a proclamion was read from Galveston mayor naming Nov 11, 2017, as Kemps Ridley Turtle Day. The stue
is on sea wall in a gre locion just east dolphin stue and Hurricane stue. Funding for bronze sculpture was given by prive foundions which are named on a sign mounted next to turtle. Piney Woods is also recognized. Kemps Ridley Turtle Stue on Galveston Seawall Carole Allen s grandchildren, Abigail and Spencer, were able to tend dedicion and y along with or children unveiled stue. ROB Kemps Ridley mascot was re. ROB Ridleys costume was purchased with funds from River Oaks Baptist School. One interns Turtle Restorion Network played mascot. Congrulions goes to Carole Allen in bringing awareness to plight all sea turtles and Kemps Ridleys specifically. Not only were we able to dedice bronze Kemp s Ridley sea turtle sculpture on Galveston sea wall, but re is more good news! This past year, populion Kemp s Ridley saw its greest increase in years. The binional conservion project th started in 1978 between Mexico and United Stes is working. The nesting season which ended recently registered 25,000 nests with each nest containing 95 to 100 eggs. We all hope th 2018 is an even better year for turtles (and all us). Thanks to everyone who has helped in any way! Merry Christmas!

The Spring Creek Christmas Count Circle and locion six teams. Spring Creek CBC Needs Volunteers by Claire Moore Each year, Piney Woods Wildlife Society sponsors Spring Creek Christmas Bird Count (CBC). This year's CBC is scheduled for Surday, December 16. We'd love to have your help in counting birds in field on th day or counting birds th you see your feeder (IF you live in count circle). See map count circle or email Claire Moore cdmoore3i@gmail.com to check to see if you live within it. We will have six teams in field birding on December 16th and you're welcome to join one m. The teams are indiced on CBC map and also listed below with details on where and when to meet up. Please email Claire Moore cdmoore3i@gmail.com if you are interested in joining in eir effort. All birding volunteers are welcome from beginner to experienced and anywhere in between! It sure does help to have more "eyes and ears" out re finding birds. The directions to get re are much same as to Nure Center. Aldine- Westfield turns into Riley Fuzzel Road just norast Spring so re are several ways to get re. 1. Take Rayford/Sawdust exit and go East (right)
on Rayford Rd. It dead ends Riley Fuzzel, n turn South (right) and drive to Dennis Johnston Park past Spring Creek and on right; or, 2. take Spring- Cypress east to Aldine Westfield through Old Town Spring, turn left and n on to Riley
Fuzzel for a short distance and turn left; or, 3. Take Aldine Westfield north from Mercer Arboretum until it turns into Riley Fuzzel. Turn right and wch for Dennis Johnston Park on left.
