2017 AAGM Education Conference Speaker Bios Alexandra Jackiw, CAM CAPS President, Milhaus Management Alex Jackiw joined Milhaus in 2014 as President of its property management company where she is responsible for overseeing property operations and asset management functions for the Milhaus owned portfolio and expanding management services to select third-party, institutional clients. Jackiw has experience managing market-rate properties, student housing, full-service retirement communities, LIHTC communities and HUD-regulated properties. Active in professional organizations, Jackiw served as Chairman of the Board of the National Apartment Association (NAA) in 2013 and President of the NAA Education Institute in 2008/2009. In 2012 Real Estate Forum Magazine named Jackiw a Woman of Influence in Real Estate and in 2013 the Institute of Real Estate Management named her as one of the Women Changing the Face of Property Management. Dr. Debbie Phillips President, The Quadrillion Professor, Georgia Institute of Technology Executive Director, Georgia Apartment Industry Education Foundation Dr. Debbie Phillips is a real estate professional with over 30 years of experience with diverse property types. As an entrepreneur, Debbie has a multi-faceted career including developing world class leadership development programs and talent management strategies in addition to serving as an industry expert, keynote speaker and nationally acclaimed author. She was named the 2015 Certified Property Manager (CPM) of the year by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and was recognized as one of the top 75 professional women changing the face of real estate in 2013. The National Apartment Association recognized Debbie as an outstanding educator and for her leadership in developing a holistic workforce development platform. In addition to her private consulting, Debbie serves as President for the Georgia Apartment Industry Education Foundation. She currently serves as Adjunct Professor and Industry Liaison for a number of colleges and universities including Georgia Institute of Technology and teaches on-line courses for programs such as the New School of Architecture and Design in San Diego, California. Debbie is actively involved in industry organizations and serves in advisory roles. Debbie completed her Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where her research focused on Resident Satisfaction and Employee Engagement as she developed an Employee Engagement Model for the Multifamily Housing Industry. Debbie also holds a Master of Science degree in Housing & Consumer Economics, with an emphasis in Senior Housing, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer Journalism, both from the University of Georgia. Raymond van Beveren SVP Construction Services and Facilities, Pinnacle Mr. van Beveren joined Pinnacle in July of 2016 as Senior Vice President of Construction Services and Facilities he is responsible for the construction, maintenance, purchasing and development departments of the company. Mr. van Beveren works closely with the leadership team to plan and execute strategies to enhance the value of the communities Pinnacle manages. Prior to joining our team, Mr. van Beveren served as Executive Vice President for CFlane and as head of the firm s construction, maintenance, development and purchasing departments he oversaw all related activities. Mr. van Beveren worked at Bell partners prior to CFlane as their Senior Vice president of construction Services and led all of their construction related activities. He started his professional career in 1995 with TVO North America as an on-site member of the property management group. He then held the position of Senior Vice President with TVO and was responsible for overseeing property renovations and capital improvements for all owner assets and third-party assets. Mr. van Beveren has been involved NAA for many years. He has been a guest speaker at conferences and is involved at a national level with NAA and NMHC. Mr. van Beveren will be serving as Vice Chairman of the NAA Operations Committee in 2016. Mr. van Beveren is a 1994 graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX earning his B.A. Degree in Public Relations and Administration with a minor in Business. He played intercollegiate basketball at SMU and also played professionally in Europe. Mr. van Beveren is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Melissa Smith Chief Administrative Officer, Fogelman Melissa Smith is Chief Administrative Officer for Fogelman Management Group. In this role, Melissa is responsible for leading the Fogelman team in the areas of accounting, human resources, real estate services, training, marketing, systems coordination, and information technology. During her tenure in the multifamily industry, Melissa has been personally involved in all aspects of property management, starting her career working onsite and then transitioning into key corporate leadership positions. Melissa earned her BS degree in Business and Economics from Randolph- Macon College in Ashland, VA. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and has been a columnist for several industry publications.
Jeannette Cox, CAPS Executive Vice President, ODDO Development Jeannette is Executive Vice President of Oddo Development, based in Overland Park, KS, overseeing development and operations for residential, multifamily and commercial real estate. Jeannette has a bachelor degree in Business Administration, holds her CAPS certification through the National Apartment Association and graduate of the NAA Lyceum. Jeannette has been an active member of NAA for 10 years and currently serves on the board for the National Apartment Association and is 2016 Membership Chairman for NAA and 2017 NAA Education Conference. She is also an active member of Vistage Business Organization. Pattie Woods, CAPS Vice President Training & Development, Fogelman As Vice President of Training & Development, Pattie is responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring training programs for all site level associates. She oversees Fogelman Management Group's mentor programs, the online learning center and property transitions. Pattie is an active member of the National Apartment Association, currently serving as a NAAEI Board member and is a member of the NAA Lease Advisory Committee. Pattie is a frequent speaker for national industry events.
Crystal Dollahite Canerdy, HCCP Director of Support Services, LEDIC Crystal Dollahite Canerdy serves as the Director of Support Services for LEDIC Realty Company. Crystal is responsible for all aspects of the LEDIC University Training Program and works with all employees to ensure that each is offered the training options that are needed to be successful in our industry. In addition, she oversees Communications and the Marketing Department, including the LEDIC social media and corporate marketing programs. Crystal s responsibilities also include support services for all properties. Crystal has 20 years of experience in property management with LEDIC. In her previous role as Director of Training, Crystal was responsible for building a training program that included both classroom and webinar style learning opportunities and a full service online training library. As a District Property Manager, she was responsible for all dayto-day aspects of operating the apartment communities within her portfolio. Crystal graduated from Christian Brothers University and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration. She is a CPM Candidate and is a Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) through the National Association of Home Builders. She served as the 2014 President for The Apartment Association of Greater Memphis and as a Tennessee Apartment Association Board Member. She is also a member of IREM, as well as, being a licensed real estate agent. Jordan Hovanec, NALP CAM Director of Residential Services Milhaus Management Jordan Hovanec, Director of Residential Services for Milhaus Management, holds a Residential Property Management degree from Ball State University. His management experience includes the launch of multiple new construction communities spanning to additional roles in marketing, training and operations responsible for overseeing the lease-up and stabilization of both new construction and the rebranding and repositioning of distressed third party assets. Jordan is currently managing the Artistry Campus, a 554 unit mixed-use community in downtown Indianapolis. As a rising leader in the industry, he is actively involved in the Indiana Apartment Association.
