Then, save as a.pes file to the media device that your embroidery machine will read. Embroidery: 1. Hoop two layers of Dissolve-Away Mesh stabilizer in the 5 x 7 hoop. 2. With the machine turned on, retrieve the leaf design from the saved location. 3. Embroider the design directly on top of the stabilizer using the assigned thread colors from Madeira Thread Chest. 4. Remove the design from the hoop and cut away the majority of the stabilizer. 5. Gently, rinse away the visible stabilizer and lay flat to dry on a paper towel. Try to maintain the shape of the leaf. As the leaf dries the edges will curl slightly. That is OK. It will give an artsy look. Ice Bucket: 1. On a flat surface layer a 21 square area with Dissolve-Away stabilizer. If the stabilizer is not wide enough use two pieces and overlap them. 2. This is when the fun begins! Place wool roving, threads and the Angelina fibers over the stabilizer so that the area forms a large circle covering most of the 21 square. Mix the fibers and the chosen colors to have a good appearance. {Designer s Gallery} MasterWorks III Holiday Ice Bucket Page 5
3. Cut another piece or pieces of Dissolve-Away stabilizer and place over the fibers covering them completely (as shown in the next picture). 4. To hold the layers together, pin the layers with the safety pins. Use as many pins as needed. 5. Set the sewing machine up for free motion quilting and quilt the layers together. In the sample, a meandering stipple stitch was used while overlapping the stipples to hold all of the small fibers together. Use quilting thread in the bobbin and on the top that matches or coordinates with the colors in the sandwich. 6. Rinse away the stabilizer under warm running water while gently holding the quilted section. Remove only the visible stabilizer since the remaining stabilizer will hold the piece together after the piece dries. Remove most of the water. {Designer s Gallery} MasterWorks III Holiday Ice Bucket Page 6
7. Lay the quilted section on a flat surface with the wrong side facing upward. Maintain the rounded shape and place the CD plastic case in the center of the quilted section. Form the quilted section up and around the plastic case to make it fit around the plastic case. Adjust the folds to create a uniform look. Once it is in position, place a rubber band around the top of the case. This will hold the quilted section in place while the piece dries. Make adjustments to the quilted section if needed during the drying process. It may take up to 24 hours for the section to dry. 8. To finish the ice bucket, glue the leaf to the front of the ice bucket and remove the rubber band. Tie a bow around the top of the ice bucket where the rubber band was positioned.
