SUPPLIES Multi Purpose Sealer #87392 Holly & Vines Stencil #70860 DecoArt Paint Adhesion Medium 2 oz #84185 Acrylic Sealer Finisher Gloss Spray #70835 PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS Background Brush-mix Neutral Grey, Dove Grey, Paint Adhesion Medium and slip-slap onto background. This is mainly to give some color and texture to the background, so don't worry about covering the whole area. Some areas should be darker or lighter than others. Transfer oval for scene area, as well as horizon line. Sky Brush-mix Williamsburg Blue and Winter Blue on your palette. Side-load # 10 or #16 shader, blend and, beginning at top, streak and walk color down to horizon line. When dry, pick up more Winter Blue on one side of brush, blend, then add lighter areas to top and center of sky; repeat, adding Dove Grey to dirty brush, keeping this more toward top; repeat, picking up a tad of Warm White in dirty brush. Clean brush, reload into base mix, pick up Williamsburg Blue on one corner, blend and, beginning at horizon line, streak up into sky about 1/3 of the way up. Snow Side-load Dove Grey, blend and, starting at top of snow, streak in highlights, walking down almost to bottom (Note: Your background is the base color). Repeat, picking up Warm White in dirty brush, not walking down as far. Side-load Neutral Grey in dirty brush, blend and, beginning at bottom, streak in hereand-there for shadows on the snow. Trace on buildings. Buildings (Note: Your background is the first coat. Do not fuss with these too much. They will look better if you do less to them!) Base building bottoms with a wash of Neutral Grey + Dove Grey (approx. 1:1). Add highlights to right side of buildings on left, on left of buildings on right in background, on right of church front, left side of side of church and steeple sections with Dove Grey. Shade buildings, under roofs and opposite side of highlights, with Neutral Grey. Also shade front side of side of church and right side of side steeple sections, right side of front on house on left. Reinforce shading on church and house on left only with Charcoal Grey. Roofs Again, your background is the base color. Highlight with Dove Grey (please see close-up photo for place- 2 artistsclub.com

ment). Reinforce with Warm White, keeping this VERY light on the background houses and heavier on church and two houses on left. Repeat, adding more color to church and two houses on the left. Shade with the sky background mix. Windows Using #2 round, load flat in Pineapple, then stroke in lightly. You may want to load a #0 liner flat in Pineapple for the house in the background. Shade at bottoms with light Scarlet. Add squiggle to round window on church to resemble stained glass with a liner and Charcoal Grey. Outline windows on church and two buildings on left with Charcoal Grey. Tree Using dry #2 round stipple on with Antique Green. Pick up Avocado Dip on dirty brush, blend a bit, then add to right side of tree; repeat, adding a little Plantation Pine to left side of tree. Float a little sky base mix under to set into snow. Wash on one small area with side-loaded Scarlet. Outline oval with 24K Gold. Leaves The background is the base-coat of all the leaves. Warm Leaves: Float top edges of leaves and opposite side of leaf, next to center vein, with Avocado Dip, walking the color down toward the bottom areas of each section; repeat, picking up Margarita in dirty brush, but not walking down as far; repeat, adding Pineapple to dirty brush, only in the brightest areas. Float Antique Green at bottom edge of leaf and next to center vein on opposite side of leaf, walking color up toward highlight color. Add veins with a brush-mix of Avocado Dip + Margarita (approx. 1:1). Float more Antique Green as above and also adding shading at base of leaves and under side veins. Add more shading with Plantation Pine. Add a highlight to the centers of veins with Pineapple. Cool Leaves: Float top edges of leaves and opposite side of leaf, next to center vein, with a brush-mix of Avocado Dip + Silver Sage Green (approx. 1:1), walking the color down toward the bottom areas of each section; repeat, picking up more Silver Sage Green in dirty brush, but not walking down as far; repeat, adding Light Sage to dirty brush, only in the brightest areas. Float Leaf Green at bottom edge of leaf and next to center vein on opposite side of leaf, walking color up toward highlight color. Add veins with a brush-mix of Silver Sage Green. Float more Leaf Green as above and also adding shading at base of leaves and under side veins. Add more shading with Evergreen. Add a highlight to the centers of veins with Light Sage. artistsclub.com 3

Berries Using back end of #8 shader, add dots of Scarlet for berries. When dry, add a highlight float of Scarlet + Pineapple (approx. 1:1) to either the top right or top left your choice! Shade opposite side of berry with Cranberry Wine. Add a shine dot of Pineapple, with your liner brush, to the highlight sides of the berries. Float Silver Sage Green on a few of the berries on the shadow side for reflected light. FINISHING Add light tints of Scarlet and Cranberry Wine to leaves, just here-and-there do not overdo! Lightly float Scarlet on sky at horizon and walk up just a bit, as well as bottom of snow. Add light Cranberry Wine to top of sky, under holly leaf. Very lightly, wash Winter Blue over cool leaves. Add Glamour Dust Glitter Paints as follows: Limelight on warm leaves, Emerald on cool leaves, Silver Bling on roofs and snow, Sizzling Red on berries and float on red areas of windows on church and front house on left. Float a brush-mix of Plantation Pine + Neutral Grey (approx. 1:1) under leaves. Barbara Bunsey. All rights reserved under Pan American and international copyright conventions.
