(53.5 (56) cm) Note: Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger size in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to both sizes. To follow pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning. Cowl Finished Circumference About 32 in. (81.5 cm) Finished Height About 15 in. (38 cm) MATERIALS Lion Brand Totally Tubular (Art. #933) 207 Surfboard 6 (7) balls Lion Brand circular knitting needle size 17 (13 mm), 29 in. (73.5 cm) long Lion Brand stitch markers Lion Brand large-eyed blunt needle GAUGE 8 1/2 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. PATTERN STITCH Seed St (worked over an odd number of sts) Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K the purl sts and p the knit sts. Rep Row 2 for Seed st pattern. NOTES 1. Body of Pullover is made from 2 identical pieces: Back and Front. 2. Back and Front are worked back and forth in rows of St st (k on RS, p on WS) with Seed st lower edge. 3. For Back and Front, a circular needle is used to accommodate the number of stitches. Work back and forth on the circular needle as if working with straight needles. 4. The Pullover is designed with open shoulders. 5. The sleeves are worked from stitches picked up along the armhole edges of the Pullover. 6. The Cowl is worked separately in one piece in the round. 7. When you see 'work in pattern as established' in the instructions, this means to work the next row of the pattern sts, lining up sts as in previous rows.
PULLOVER BACK Cast on 49 (57) sts. Work in Seed st until piece measures about 3 in. (7.5 cm) from beg. Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beg. Place a marker on each end of last row worked. Continue in St st until piece measures about 6 (7) in. (15 (18) cm) from markers, end with a WS row as the last row you work. Work in Seed st until piece measures about 9 (10) in. (23 (25.5) cm) from markers. Bind off. FRONT Make same as Back. Form Neck and Shoulders Mark center 12 in. (30.5 cm) of top edge of Back and Front. Sew Back and Front together with a few sts at markers to form neck opening. Lap Back over Front at one armhole edge for about 2 in. (5 cm) and sew armhole edges together with just a few sts, leaving shoulder open. Rep at second armhole edge. Sleeves From RS, pick up and k35 (39) sts evenly spaced along one armhole edge between markers. Note: You'll be picking up sts through both layers, Back and Front, at the lapped armhole edge. Work in Seed st for about 2 in. (5 cm). Bind off. Rep to make second sleeve. FINISHING Sew side and sleeve seams. Weave in ends. COWL Cast on 56 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts. Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: P the knit sts, and k the purl sts. Rep Rnd 2, for Seed st worked in rnds, until piece measures about 15 in. (38 cm) from beg. Bind off. FINISHING Weave in ends.
