Notes Before You Begin - Read through all of the instructions before beginning. - All of the seam allowances are 1/4 unless otherwise noted. - Press seam allowances open unless otherwise noted. - Width of fabric (WOF) is equal to at least 42 wide. - Right sides together has been abbreviated to RST. - Remember to measure twice and cut once! From Fabric A, cut: one 17-1/8 x WOF strip. Subcut: one 17-1/8 square From the remainder of the strip, cut eight 5 squares three 5-1/2 x WOF strips. Trim the selvages sparingly. Sew together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: two 5-1/2 x 62-1/2 border strips four 4-1/2 x WOF strips. Sew together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: two 4-1/2 x 80-1/2 border strips From Fabric B, cut: one 12-5/8 x WOF strip. Subcut: two 12-5/8 squares. Cut each square once along a diagonal. From Fabric C, cut: three 1-1/2 x WOF strips. Sew together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: two 1-1/2 x 26 strips two 1-1/2 x 24 strips two 2 x WOF strips. Subcut: eight 2 x 9-1/2 strips From Fabric D, cut: two 9-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: eight 9-1/2 squares two 3-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: sixteen 3-1/2 squares three 4 x WOF strips. Subcut: thirty-two 4 squares Cutting Instructions From Fabric E, cut: one 5-3/8 x WOF strips. Subcut: four 5-3/8 squares. Cut each square once along a diagonal. From the remainder of the strip, cut four 2-1/2 squares four 4-3/8 x WOF strips. Subcut: thirty-two 4-3/8 squares. Cut each square along one diagonal, creating a total of sixty-four triangles. page 3
From Fabric F, cut: one 5-3/8 x WOF strips. Subcut: four 5-3/8 squares. Cut each square once along a diagonal. From Fabric G, cut: four 1-1/2 x WOF strips. Trim to yield: two 1-1/2 x 36-1/2 strips two 1-1/2 x 38-1/2 strips From Fabric H, cut: four 2-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: four 2-1/2 x 38-1/2 From Fabric I, cut: four 4 x WOF strip. Subcut: thirty-two 4 squares two 4-3/4 x WOF strips. Subcut: sixteen 4-3/4 squares. Cut each square along both diagonals, creating a total of sixty-four triangles. From Fabric J, cut: two 4-3/4 x WOF strips. Subcut: sixteen 4-3/4 squares. Cut each square along both diagonals, creating a total of sixty-four triangles. From Fabric K, cut: thirteen 1-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: twelve 1-1/2 x 9-1/2 strips Sew the remainder together, end-to-end, then trim to yield: two 1-1/2 x 60-1/2 strips two 1-1/2 x 68-1/2 strips two 1-1/2 x 62-1/2 strips From each of Fabrics L and M, cut: three 4-1/2 x WOF strip. Subcut: twenty 4-1/2 squares From the binding fabric, cut: eight 2-1/4 x WOF strips for the binding page 4
Assemble the Quilt Center Step 1: Sew one Fabric B triangle to each edge of the 17-1/8 Fabric A center square. Press the seams toward the square. Trim to 24 square, if necessary. Step 2: Sew the 1-1/2 x 24 Fabric C strip to the sides of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the strips. Sew the 1-1/2 x 26 Fabric C strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the strips. Step 3: Sew a Fabric E and Fabric F triangle to two adjacent sides of a 5 Fabric A square. Press the seams toward the triangles. Repeat to make four of each style, noting the fabric placement. Step 4: Sew one of each type of unit from Step 3 to two adjacent sides of a 9-1/2 Fabric D square. Press the seams toward the square. Repeat to make four. Step 5: Sew one completed Step 4 unit to each of the sides of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the quilt center. page 5
Step 6: Sew the 1-1/2 x 36-1/2 Fabric G strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the strips. Sew the 1-1/2 x 38-1/2 Fabric G strip to the sides of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the strips. Step 7: Sew one 2-1/2 x 38-1/2 Fabric H strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the quilt center. Sew the 2-1/2 Fabric E squares to the ends of the two remaining 2-1/2 x 38-1/2 Fabric H strips. Press the seams toward the squares. Sew to the sides of the quilt center. Press the seams toward the strips. Assemble the Border Blocks Step 8: Pair a 4 Fabric D square with a 4 Fabric I square, RST. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of one square. Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line, creating two half-square triangles (HSTs). Press toward the darker fabric. Trim to 3-1/2 square. Repeat to make sixty-four D/I HSTs. Step 9: Gather one triangle each from Fabrics I and J. Sew together in pairs, as shown, noting the fabric placement. Press the seam toward the darker fabric. page 6
Step 10: Sew a Fabric E triangle to each completed pair of triangles from Step 9. Press the seam toward Fabric E. Trim to 3-1/2 square, if needed. Step 11: Gather four D/I HSTs, four completed Step 10 units and one 3-1/2 Fabric D square. Arrange the units into three rows of three blocks. Note the fabric placement and orientation in the Block Assembly Diagram. Step 12: Sew the blocks together to form rows. Press the seams away from the Step 10 units. Step 13: Sew the rows together to form the block. Press the row seams open. Repeat to make sixteen 9-1/2 square Border Blocks. Assemble the Block Border Step 14: Sew four Border Blocks together, sewing a 1-1/2 x 9-1/2 Fabric K strip between each block and sewing a 2 x 9-1/2 Fabric C strip at each end of the row. Press the seams away from the blocks. Repeat to make four. page 7
Step 15: Sew a completed Step 14 border to the top and bottom of the quilt center, pressing the seam toward the quilt center. Step 16: Sew a 9-1/2 Fabric D square to each end of the remaining Step 14 borders. Press the seams toward the squares. Sew to the left and right edges of the quilt center, pressing the seam toward the quilt center. Refer to the Quilt Assembly Diagram, if necessary. Step 17: Sew one 1-1/2 x 60-1/2 Fabric K strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press toward the strip. Step 18: Pair a 4-1/2 Fabric M square with a 4-1/2 Fabric L square, RST. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of one square. Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line, creating two half-square triangles (HSTs). Press toward the darker fabric. Trim to 4 square. Step 19: Pair two HSTs, RST, matching opposite fabrics together. Mark a diagonal line perpendicular to the seam line on the wrong side of one square. Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line, creating two quarter-square triangles (QSTs). Press toward the seam open or to one side. Trim to 3-1/2 square. Repeat to make a total of forty L/M QSTs. Step 20: Sew twenty L/M QSTs together in a row, noting the fabric placement and orientation in the diagram. Press the seams to one side. Repeat to make a second row. page 8
Step 21: Sew completed QST row to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press toward the Fabric K strip. Step 22: Sew one 1-1/2 x 68-1/2 Fabric K strip to the sides of the quilt center. Press toward the strip. Step 23: Sew one 1-1/2 x 62-1/2 Fabric K strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press toward the strip. Step 24: Sew the 5-1/2 x 62-1/2 Fabric A top and bottom outer borders to the quilt. Press toward the borders. Sew the 4-1/2 x 80-1/2 Fabric A side outer borders to the quilt. Press toward the borders. Your quilt top is complete! Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy! page 9
