Page 26 Annex 6 Oil for hardwood windows and doors Hardwood is a beautiful and harmonious timber it has got a natural glow and depth which becomes even more prominent when treated with oil specially developed for this type of wood. Hardwood is naturally very durable, but regular maintenance is required in order to maintain good characteristics and great appearance of hardwood. If the wood dries out the products quality can be affected. Your new hardwood windows and doors have been treated with a water based hardwood oil from Akzo Nobel. The oil penetrates the wood and gives it a water repellent surface that will last for many years as long as you repeat the treatment. The oil is industrially applied from the factory, which means that it has been applied to all visible as invisible surfaces for optimum protection of the timber. The factory applied oil is a basic treatment which helps to protect the wood surface during and immediately after installation. It is therefore recommended to apply 1 to 2 coats of Sadolin hardwood oil immediately after installation of windows and doors. The number of treatments with hardwood oil depends on how dark you want the surface. Depending on how exposed your windows are you might find it necessary to treat your windows and doors twice a year with a good quality hard wood oil.
