2010 Summer Concerts In The Park July 11-7:00-9:00 p.m. AUSA Military Concert Band The Sounds of Freedom Recognized by the Congress of the United States of America, the Association of the United States Army Military Concert Band, The Sounds of Freedom, is the recipient of two Congressional Citations for its outstanding musicianship, pride, patriotism, and service to the community. The band has received numerous awards for its support of our deployed troops, including the distinguished Center of Influence award from the Army National Guard. For concerts and official ceremonies, the Association of the United States Army Military Concert Band performs a varied repertoire including new works for wind ensemble, traditional band literature, challenging transcriptions of orchestral works, patriotic marches and popular favorites. Concerts are conducted by Director Monte Gmur and Associate Director Mel Stratton. The band is a member of the Association of Concert Bands. 2010 Summer Concerts In The Park August 8-7:00-9:00 p.m. Picnic in Honor of Jerry Venturi 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Allen Harkins Band with guest accordionists: Chuck DeFina, Rick DelCarlo, Roberto Rosay, Rick Logoluso, Bob Iorio, and John Raggio The Allen Harkins Band, now the Hal Magnie Band, has been swinging for over 50 years. This 12 piece band, comprised of the valley s best musicians, features all original arrangements by Al Harkins, who incidentally wrote one of the big band classics, Tuxedo Junction. The band plays for dances, parties, and many other events. With over 200 oneof-a-kind arrangements, the band plays all styles of music, from waltzes to latin, swing to the blues. During the first hour of the evening, a group of guest accordionists will entertain you with accordion solos and more, in honor of Jerry Venturi, one of Madera s musical legends, as well as their friend and colleague. Madera County Arts Council August 22-7:00-9:00 p.m. Marimba Lucero www.maderaarts.org Marimba Lucero has been performing a variety of music since 1993, from the traditional songs of old Mexico such as Sabor A Mi, Solamente Una Vez, & Gema, to songs from the late Tex Mex artist Selena like Como La Flor & No Me Queda Más, to some oldies but goodies such as Unchained Melody, Angel Baby, & Suavecito. This group is directed and originated by Mr. Stanley A. Lucero on lead guitar and lead vocals. He is truly the father of our group. Other members include Nora Guillen (his daughter) on marimba/lead vocals and Pedro Lucero (his son) on bass/guitar, along with other invited guest musicians upon request. 2010 Summer Concerts In The Park September 12-7:00-9:00 p.m. Barbeque Dinner 6:00-7:00 p.m. Fresno State Jazz Band The Fresno State Jazz Band A, under the direction of Dr. Alan Durst, has consistently been one of the top jazz ensembles on the West Coast for over three decades. Led for many years, by Dr. Larry Sutherland, other directors have included Dr. James Miley, Paul Shaghoian and Dr. Michael Caldwell. Caldwell led the group from 2002 to 2008, a period in which the group has received all superior ratings for four years at the Reno Jazz Festival. The group recently produced a CD, Day Dream, featuring compositions by former member Josh Appleby. The history of the ensemble includes first place awards at the Reno Jazz Festival and The Pacific Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival. The group has appeared in Europe and Japan, as well as many festivals throughout the United Stated, including the National Collegiate Jazz Festival and the Kent-Meridian Festival at the Seattle Opera House. 673-3698 1525 N.
