The Totem Times January 24, 2017 Lisa Sutton By GlisteningMoonlight Upcoming event by Alexandra Sage Spirit Challenge in January: Bring in your Box Tops! You are running out of time Get those box tops in before it s too late! 1/25 Early Release 1/31 NMS Art show 5:30 to 7:00 2/3 End of Quarter 3 and 1st semester! It s also a half day and Act night at Salish at 7:00PM. Ms. Sutton can teach all of the core subjects, though her main teaching subjects are English/Language Arts and Social Studies. Ms. Sutton's birthday is July 16, 1979. She is currently 37 years young. Her favorite dessert is peach cobbler, while her favorite food is churros. Her favorite color is red, and her favorite book is Harry Potter. Her designated football team is currently the Seattle Seahawks. Before Ms. Sutton became a teacher, for one year she worked a multiple duty job that consisted of Office assistant, Teacher assistant, Custodian, Heath Assistant, and a Recess Officer. Her inspiration to teach started at a private school in Maryland, while she was already teaching. She taught for others and during this experience she found that students went to her for advice and she helped lead them through it. She also comes from a long line of teachers. Before Ms. Sutton worked at Nisqually Middle School, she taught six years of fifth grade at Lydia Jane Hawk Elementary. Ms. Sutton is currently teaching at Nisqually Middle school for her second year. In total she has taught for eleven years. As some may know Ms. Sutton has a secret talent of Taekwondo. She was inspired to start Taekwondo from her student, and started four years ago. She earned her black belt two years ago and aims for this June to earn her second Degree black belt.

Generosity By Guest Writer, Micah Smith Critic s Corner By Mr. Anonymous Students can help others by just simply giving compliments and giving out kindness. They also have so many other things that could do at school and saying, Thank you, for you know, being an awesome friend and keeping me happy." It doesn't even have to be that long. Just a little bit of generosity can make a person smile. Saying, "You're pretty" might be enough to do that. Generosity needs to be known in the world. About Me By Guest Writer, Jessy Gomez Hello everybody the contestants to this drawing today is Isabella Benavente, Brooke, and Maylina Smith And the winner is Isabella Benavente!!!!!!!!! Please come to Mrs. King s classroom #203 on Monday. This weeks rating on is Darkstalker Wings of Fire. I rate it 4.5 because it s very interesting with its fighting and magic but. there are those parts were it not even interesting. It s not really 100% part of the Wings of Fire lane but it is connected a bit it. *Warming -- here comes the spoilers!!! Do not read if you have not read Wings of Fire books or Darkstalker!!!} I think the timeline of the Wings of Fire series starts when the Nightwing Queen kidnaps a prince of a different kind of dragon and have a crossbred dragon. My favorite game is Call of Duty Black Ops. What you do in the game is that you choose your specialist then you get your weapon from that specialist of choice to use in combat. You're in combat most of the time so you have to take cover because there are snipers and when you don't see them BAM you're dead until the next round starts. The best weapon to use in this game in combat is to use is the assault rifle with a sniper scope. This is my favorite game. I am a hacker and a gamer and a learner and I learn by my mistakes I do in life. Sometimes I go by Jose in Spanish. I used to be popular in Lydia Hawk and not anymore but I still have a lot of friends. Nisqually Middle School and my favorite teachers are Mr. Muse and Mrs. King. And I appreciate their knowledge that they give me and all the opportunities that they give me. ***Aww. That s very kind, Jessy! ~Mrs. King

Invention News By Ernie Ivery This tiny PC literally is only about four inches tall, has one USB port, and one audio port but works well and can connect to a TV or a monitor. Crazy right? That s what I thought when I saw it, but here s a picture of the front. So that s my first newspaper piece hope you enjoyed I might do another next time.

Comix by Walsaka Playoffs Quarterfinals By: The Diamond Minecat The Green Bay Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys( YAY!) in the last 3 seconds by a field goal 34-31 (YAY!!!!!!!!!!!) and they will be playing against the Falcons that beat the Seahawks 36-20. The Steelers beat the Chiefs 18-16 and will be playing the Patriots that beat the Texans 34-16. Next edition is the SUPER BOWL LI.

School Advice Dear Flowercookieyum, School is getting harder and things are signing up. Since it s almost the end of the quarter. How can I balance more of missing work. I have some assignments missing. And many assignments due soon. Then in Leadership were having something to do for an event. I m so pressured to turn things in on time. -Assigner Dear Assinger, IF you have missing assignments. This is what you do. Use your planner. Put each week on missing assignments then turn it in. Like: Monday: Math assignment Tuesday: Subtracting So on, and so on. Then do your assignments a week ahead it s due. -Flowercookieyum What Happened in an 8th Math Class on a Daily Basis By: Ms. Great Every day we grab our weekly skills Sometimes we have an ongoing packet we grab that, too. We have quizzes every once in a while. Sometimes we have homework over break, like right now we have a workbook for an upcoming trip to Auburn. We try to work very hard to finished the task. We like to please the teacher and show her we are hard-working kids. Our homework is very hard to do in one night. We get very stressed out from ours homework and classwork. Can you relate? Being an Artist By: Mason and Walsaka People ask you to draw them People say your art looks likes someone else s Not knowing what to draw Pencils are scarce Drawing fanart Wanting expensive art supplies Pencil lead breaks Sharpeners don t work Sketching something and it not looking right When you re writing and then you start drawing When you draw great art on a school paper When you draw terrible art on expensive paper Your art style changes every month Realistic animals are hard to draw Most things are easier said than done People always criticize your art rudely You always get into fandoms People care about your fanart more than your actual art When your eraser draws for you People always give you requests When the digital art app you re using crashes and doesn t save When someone shakes the table when you re drawing When an ad gets in the way of your drawing music When you can t find a pencil So just tell me how I am doing for my first try Do not make a joke!
