Ceo s CORNER Growing together with the offshore industry I am happy to re-introduce our customer newsletter GS-Hydro News to our readers again! The newsletter went under a visual makeover to come back even better than before. We at GS-Hydro have a very solid year 2012 behind us with a number of successful customer projects. The demand in the offshore industry has been increasing and also the upcoming years look bright. We have been aiming to offer the best support for our customers by fulfilling their requirements in demanding applications with our engineering, prefabrication and services capabilities. We have also strengthened our presence in the main offshore markets such as the North Sea, Asia, Brazil and Gulf of Mexico as this enables us to serve global customers as well as meet their requirements for localizing the production and sourcing. It has been great to see the growing installed base of GS-hydro solutions in mission critical applications on oil rigs, drilling ships and offshore vessels as this demonstrates that our technology is trusted. I am also extremely pleased to have our personnel acknowledged for their skills. The outlook in land-based and marine segments is more challenging but we still see some of our customers performing well in these markets. For us it is important to find those sectors which rely on our technology such as the testing industry or specialty marine vessels. Turn the page to read about our service project on the Polarcus Naila vessel. GS-Hydro has been successfully developing engineering capabilities of the hydraulic piping solutions GS-Hydro has been successfully developing engineering capabilities of the hydraulic piping solutions and is today better able to support customers in their tightly scheduled projects. Engineering will be an area which we are putting more focus on by combining our global engineering resources and increasing the available engineering services to our customers. David Forsberg from GS-Hydro Sweden offers an insight into GS-Hydro Engineering starting from page 6. In 2012 we have recognized the need for more after sales services among our offshore customers and we are therefore developing our offering in that sector. The past year we were involved in a couple of major offshore projects related to reclassification and rehabilitation of the existing hydraulic systems with piping and hose technology. We believe that GS-Hydro is in the position to add value to similar types of projects in the future and we will continue to develop our offering in 2013. SUCCESS STORIES Marine Seismic Vessel Polarcus Naila GS-Hydro Service Operation In the beginning of 2012, Polarcus proposed a challenge for GS-Hydro: Polarcus Naila, a high-end marine seismic vessel, will be docked in Trinidad and Tobago where GS- Hydro should be able to re-do 500 meters of piping within 7 days. This would also include flushing and testing. GS-Hydro accepted the challenge. Polarcus Naila is one of the most environmentally friendly and technologically sophisticated marine seismic vessels in the market, providing advanced 3D towed marine seismic services worldwide to the oil and gas industry. Polarcus Naila is the second vessel in the Polarcus fleet and it is capable of towing up to 12 by 8,000m streamers. BOW hull designed by Norway s Ulstein Design AS to the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. These were designed to maximize the vessel s operational performance and minimize emissions. The sophisticated double hull design also incorporates a range of advanced safety features including a DP 2 dynamic positioning system. Polarcus, a Dubai based marine geophysical company, provides towed marine seismic acquisition services and multiclient projects for the oil and gas industry worldwide. The Polarcus fleet includes eight high end 3D seismic vessels. Six vessels were built in Dubai, UAE, by Drydocks World Dubai LLC, and two in Norway by Ulstein Verft AS, with the first vessels becoming operational in 2009. Committed to service Global network GS-Hydro is committed to provide world wide services for the Polarcus fleet for the entire lifecycle of the vessels through the global network of the GS-Hydro subsidiaries. When the Polarcus vessels were being built, GS-Hydro provided the hydraulic and high pressure air piping systems to six vessels together with necessary materials, machines and equipment. Each ship has approximately 7000 meters of GS-piping. GS-Hydro also committed to provide worldwide service to the Polarcus fleet for the entire lifecycle of the vessels through the GS-Hydro subsidiaries. This triggered the Trinidad and Tobago service project. Previously GS- Hydro had already done smaller service operations for Polarcus vessels in the Netherlands and Spain s Canary Islands. Polarcus fleet Polarcus Naila incorporates many new and innovative design features ranging from the distinctive ULSTEIN X- To provide the services needed for Polarcus Naila, GS-Hydro took advantage of its global organization and sent over a team of Spanish and Finnish GS-Hydro piping experts. The flushing unit and testing was provided from GS-Hydro USA. To make sure that the team would be ready when the installation began, a two men team was sent before-hand to familiarize with the project and vessel. Due to the good cooperation between the vessel s owners own technical personnel and the GS-Hydro team, the project was completed successfully in time. Polarcus expressed its satisfaction at the end of the project for the professional approach and in-time delivery even with a tight schedule. 4 GS-Hydro Corporation Newsletter 1/2013 GS-Hydro Corporation Newsletter 1/2013 5
GS-Hydro Offers Professional Engineering When asked how GS-Hydro engineering best assists the customer, Forsberg had his answer ready: quick installation time. Our customers are normally under immense time pressure when it comes to installation time. We can offer an engineered prefabricated piping system which requires only a short installation time together with a 3D PDF document that serves as an approved layout drawing in Sweden. Our engineering service ensures that the installation process is fast and efficient. We also take care of any obstacles along the way and make sure that the specific requirements of the customer are taken into consideration right at the beginning of the project. This way when we get to installation, everybody is clear on what to do to get the desired end result. Engineering process GS-Hydro Sweden includes professional engineering in its list of services to ensure that installation time is kept at a minimum at the customer site. David Forsberg, Design Engineer at GS-Hydro Sweden, knows how to engineer a GS Piping System. He is involved throughout the engineering process which starts from the quotation to handing the customer all relevant documentation once the project is finished. He has many good things to say about cooperation within GS-Hydro when it comes to engineering: I have some excellent colleagues in GS-Hydro Finland assisting me in upholding the GS-Hydro quality in engineering. GS-Hydro Sweden provides the customer with a quick quote design already at the quotation phase. This allows the customer to have a better understanding of the project. Once the customer confirms the project Forsberg creates the necessary designs. A 3D model is created for customer approval which then goes to production. In this phase the piping layout drawing is created together with the bill of materials, calculations, pipe spool drawings, secondary supports and other related documents. GS-Hydro Sweden s engineering department designs for a very wide range of industries and applications such as marine propulsion systems, hydro power systems, aviation systems etc. Most of the work is concentrated on land-based industries such as mills. Forsberg emphasizes that we at GS-Hydro are very flexible internally to make sure that any major project has support across borders and therefore we often work with our colleagues from other GS-Hydro subsidiaries. 3D Component Library To further assist in the engineering process of its customers, GS-Hydro has created its own 3D Component Library for the use of its stakeholders. It s free to use and does not require registration allowing customers to download the proper components and use them in their project designs. Forsberg was happy to see the GS-Hydro 3D Component Library go live: now engineering companies such as ship or machine builders have free access to our 3D CAD library saving time and costs. GS-Hydro Sweden Established in 1982 Employees: 10 Currently 3 offices in Sweden: Kista, Sundsbruk and Kungsbacka (opened in January 2013). Current segment focus mainly on land-based segments as well as offshore and marine. Comprehensive offering: components, services (such as engineering), complete projects Flexibility a clear success factor GS-Hydro Sweden is continually working together with several other GS-Hydro subsidiaries which creates a strong and flexible network to support the customer s needs. For example in 2012 GS-Hydro Sweden cooperated on four projects with GS-Hydro Poland with great success in performance. One of these projects was a new build mining area in Northern Sweden which included material delivery together with two supervisors working on-site for three weeks to ensure the success of the project. In the coming years GS-Hydro Sweden is taking serious steps to provide even more comprehensive services to its customers. 6 GS-Hydro Corporation Newsletter 1/2013 GS-Hydro Corporation Newsletter 1/2013 7
