P a g e Welcome to Compose - Build your own textbook. Make your students happy! Table of Contents STEP 1: REGISTER/SIGN IN. 2 P a g e STEP 1: REGISTER/SIGN IN

P a g e If you do not have an account yet, click REGISTER at the top right of the home screen. If you do have an account, click SIGN IN at the top right of the home screen.

P a g e If you are registering, enter your information in the fields under the REGISTER heading, and click REGISTER when you are finished. Please use your school email. If you are signing in, fill in your login info and click SIGN IN.

P a g e This will take you to the following screen:

P a g e STEP 2: SEARCH FOR CONTENT

P a g e Use the search field on the left-hand navigation menu to find your book.

P a g e You can search by typing in a keyword, title, author or ISBN in the search bar. You can browse by author by clicking BROWSE AUTHORS. This will bring up an alphabetical list of author names for you to select from.

P a g e You can browse all content by clicking CONTENT TYPE and selecting TEXTBOOK CONTENT.

P a g e You can browse the enrichment modules or Collections by clicking CONTENT TYPE and selecting either ENRICHMENT MODULES or COLLECTIONS. Enrichment modules are short supplements that complement a full textbook. Collections are specialty collections of readings or cases organized by discipline.

P a g e You can also browse content by subject by clicking SUBJECT and finding the topic you are looking for. There are subtopics as well. When you click on your topic, titles within that topic will appear.

P a g e STEP 3: START BUILDING YOUR BOOK

P a g e Once you find the title you are looking for, click the title to display the chapters. Please note: When selecting Cengage material, you cannot choose more than 70% of a single title, unless you combine it with material from another source. Using 2 or more sources in combination will allow you to use up to 80% of the content from each source. No custom product can contain more than 80% of a Cengage book. For additional content, consider browsing our enrichment modules for valuable student success topics. If you have questions, or wish to seek an exception, please contact us at nelson.custompublishing@nelson.com.

P a g e Drag and drop or click ADD THIS CHAPTER to move content into the Build panel to the right. If you want to seach for another book to add content from, you may search again and continue adding chapters. This is the build panel

P a g e Here is an example. You will notice that the chapter numbers will update to reflect the new order they are in. You can move the order of chapters around by dragging them or using the up and down arrows.

P a g e You may also choose to add your own content (a course syllabus or lecture notes for example). You can do so by clicking UPLOAD MY CONTENT. Documents you upload here can be added to the project you are currently working on, or can be saved to MY DOCUMENTS. You must confirm that the document is your own work and does not contain material that you do not own the rights to.

P a g e You will also notice the SUMMARY box at the bottom of the Build panel that gives you an estimated price for your finished book. You can also preview your new book at this stage by clicking PREVIEW MY PROJECT at the bottom of the Build panel. When you have added all the content you want, click NEXT to select your title and cover.

P a g e You have to fill in the information on the right side and title before you can select cover. Assign a general identifying title to your project (this will not appear on the cover it is just to identify it in your library). The title that will appear on the project is what you will enter on the cover as text. Next, select the type of binding you prefer. Softcover is a fully bound book with a soft front and back cover. Spiral is bound with plastic coil with a soft front and back cover. Spiral costs an additional $5. Fill in the estimated enrolment for your course as well as your course name. The minimum order is 50. If your course is fewer than 50 students but you plan to use the custom over two consecutive semesters that will equal 50, fill in 50.

P a g e Click on SELECT COVER to make your cover selection. On this page, you will select from the bottom row of cover options. You can click through them to see what you like.

P a g e Once you have selected your cover, you must also fill out the title in the areas provided. The subtitle is not required, but the other information is mandatory. You can preview the cover and title by clicking PREVIEW and when you are satisfied, press SAVE.

P a g e STEP 4: REVIEW YOUR BOOK

P a g e Review the information on this page and PREVIEW MY PROJECT for confirmation.

P a g e Click NEXT to move onto the final stage.

P a g e If you would like to share the book you have built with a colleague before publishing, click on MY LIBRARY from your home page.

P a g e Select the project you wish to share from your READY PROJECTS AND SAVED DRAFTS projects by clicking on the SHARE MY BOOK hyperlink. Enter your colleague s e-mail address into the EMAIL ADDRESS field, and any additional text in the ADDITIONAL TEXT field and click SEND. Please note: You can only share the project with one person at a time therefore only one e-mail will be accepted. To send to multiple colleagues, follow this process for each person. Sharing a book means you are sending a digital proof of a project you have created the recipient will not be able to make edits.

P a g e You will receive confirmation once it has been sent.

P a g e STEP 5: PUBLISH YOUR PROJECT!

P a g e If you are ready to submit your project, click PUBLISH.

P a g e If you would rather wait, click SAVE and the project will appear in your library to come back to later.

P a g e What happens next? If you pressed Publish you will receive a confirmation email with details of your request. One of our Custom team members will review and approve your order. If the custom book is the only component of your order, please send the ISBN to your bookstore. If you are packaging your custom book with technology, or with another print component, you will need to contact your Nelson Learning Solutions Consultant, who will provide you with a bundle ISBN to give to the bookstore. Once your Nelson Custom Content Manager has reviewed and approved your book, they will email you to confirm your approval to move forward.
