Drum/Rubber Grips Drum/Rubber Grips test low and medium capacity applications ST1 1 kn (225 lbf) ST18 10 kn (2250 lbf) ST1 ST18 ST63 ST89 Eccentric Roller Grip, 1 kn (225 lbf) capacity. Sample Type: Flat samples of rubber, plastics, general polymers and softer metals such as aluminum, brass, and mild steel. A sample is inserted between the body and the eccentrically mounted roller with a simple lever that permits rapid loading and quick release of the sample. As the load increases, the gripping action becomes self-tightening due to cam action between the roller and the body. Samples up to 30 mm wide and 5 mm thick can be accommodated. Motorized Ring Grip, 10 kn (2250 lbf). Sample Type: Loop samples such as O Rings, rubber bands and strips cut from cylindrical items. The grip consists of anvils mounted on shafts carried on ball bearings that allow them to rotate. The lower grip is driven by a small electric motor (adjustable speed between 0 and 20 RPM) while the upper grip is mounted to the load cell and is free to rotate. Sample rotation while under load allows the stress in the sample to equalize at all points. Bollard-type Grip, 2 kn (450 lbf). Sample Type: Thin flexible samples of plastic film, paper and foils. The grip has a 12 mm (0.5 in) diameter bollard which can be steel or rubber coated. The sample is wrapped around the bollard and initial clamping is provided by a tension spring. Self-tightening occurs as the load increases. The sample must be flexible enough to wrap around the bollard and conform to its surface. Split Drum Grip, 10 kn (2,250 lbf). Sample Type: Seatbelt, webbing and general belting samples. The sample is loaded by inserting the end of the material in the slot of the drum and wrapped around the drum one full rotation. This provides a secure hold that results in proper breaks in the full gauge length of the sample. 13 ST89 10 kn (2250 lbf) Model Capacity Upper Grip Grip Max Sample Max Sample Weight Length Thickness Width ST1 1kN (225 lbf) 0.35 kg (0.77 lb) 72.0 mm (2.8 in) 5.0 mm (0.2 in) 30 mm (1.18 in) ST18 10 kn (2250 lbf) 2.0 kg (4.4 lb) 81.0 mm (3.2 in) NA 20 mm (0.787 in) ST63 2 kn (450 lbf) 0.3 (0.66 lb) 71.0 mm (2.8 in) 4.0 mm (0.16 in) 35 mm (1.4 in) ST89 10 kn (2250 lbf) 15.83 kg (35.0 lb) 185.0 mm (7.3 in) 5.0 mm (0.2 in) 80 mm (3.1 in)

A specially designed horn simplifies sample insertion and minimizes stress on the sample resulting in less breakage. Air-operated Yarn and Cord Grips, 375 N (84 lbf) capacity. Sample Type: Yarn, cord, twine and mono-filaments. Air operated grips increase the testing rate by reducing sample insertion time and operator fatigue and ensures a constant clamping pressure from test to test. A specially designed horn simplifies sample insertion and minimizes stress on the sample resulting in less breakage. Wire and Yarn Grip, 1 kn (225 lbf). Sample Type: Yarn, twine and fine wires. Operating on a bollard and clamp principle, the bollard has a 20 mm (0.8 in) diameter with a smooth groove to center the sample. Material being tested must be flexible enough with a maximum diameter of 2 mm (0.08 in) to ensure a secure hold. The clamp washers float on the clamp spindle to protect the sample from pretension or damage while clamping. Rope Grip, 10 kn (2250 lbf). Sample Type: Polypropylene, nylon, hemp and manila ropes Bollard-type grip with a manual vice for clamping the end of the sample. The bollard has a 150 mm (6 in) diameter which gives a 10:1 ratio of maximum rope diameter to bollard diameter. The rope is wrapped around the bollard one full circumference prior to clamping. 770A 1.25 kn (281 lbf) Model Capacity Upper Grip Grip Max Sample Max Sample Weight Length Thickness Width 770A 1.25 kn (281 lbf) 1.8 kg (4.0 lb) 229 mm (9.0 in) 3.2 mm (0.125 in) 15.9 mm (0.625 in) 770C 375 N (84 lbf) 0.68 kg (1.5 lb) 89 mm (3.5 in) 3.2 mm (0.125 in) 12.7 mm (0.5 in) ST43 1.0 kn (225 lbf) 0.15 kg (0.33 lb) 85 mm (3.3 in) 2.0 mm (0.08 in) dia.
