roses by magda gazur Joy, perfection, beauty, soul, eternity, love these are only a few examples of imagery connected with the queen of flowers, the rose. A Latin expression sub rosa means a message shared in confidence, secrecy. The new collection of an important artist working for Manufaktura in Bolesławiec, Magda Gazur, is constructed around this nonhomogeneous imagery, giving a large space for creative experiments. The Roses collection rediscovers roses as a decorative element of stone pottery. However, the rose is associated only apparently with grandma s dinnerware. Evoking these warm memories, the artist created a modern collection, where a traditional rose pattern is emphasised by strong red planes and modern stamp shapes. An additional value is a surprising finishing of the pottery: shiny glazing broken by matt planes, which gives the vessels exceptional nobility. 13

Smoleński i Zwierz, the factory of stone pottery in Bolesławiec, have been providing exceptional, hand-made and decorated pottery for customers from all over the world for over 25 years. Based on a multi-annual tradition of making stone pottery, inseparably connected with the region, ceramic vessels are created in the factory. All this thanks to the artists co-operating with Manufaktura for years, who redefine the concept of Bolesławiec pottery based on their artistic freedom, creating unique collections in a traditional and modern style. Regardless of artistic experiments and travels around the colouristic side of pottery, it is cobalt which will always be the basis of decorative patterns of Bolesławiec stone pottery. However, as it is visible in the catalogue, there is still a lot to discover. This time we are peeping into an enchanted garden one late August afternoon at a so-called golden hour, when the beauty of surrounding nature, especially of the summer flowers, is fully visible. 27
