Winter 2017 Adult Art Classes - The Studio at the Elliott Museum The Studio at the Elliott Museum is pleased to announce our current adult Art Class & Workshop Schedule. Sign up at the Visitors Services desk in the Museum or call in your registration (online registration is currently unavailable.) Check back often as classes, workshops, and other special events are always being added. Participants must provide their own materials as per the instructors requirements, or purchase the materials kit, depending on the class. There are no refunds or make-ups for missed classes, and no refunds after registration unless the class has filled past the minimum number required to hold the class. Classes may be postponed or canceled if the minimum number of registrants has not signed up by the deadline (registrations accepted after the deadline if minimum has been met). If we cancel the class, we will issue a full refund or credit to another class. Questions? Mia will be guiding students through the steps to create a variety of fun, colorful, and textural decorative and functional pieces with hand-building in ceramics. Tuesdays Lose Yourself in Watercolor with Julia Kelly Renowned local artist Julia Kelly teaches watercolor fast and loose. This entertaining instructor is known for her large-scale paintings of local and tropical scenes. Come and have a great time while learning her techniques. Endless Possibilities in Polymer Clay with Sarita Neun You won t believe what you can do with Polymer Clay - everything from jewelry to tiles to ornaments and way beyond. In this six-week class, Sarita will teach you how to mix and match colors and patterns in cane work to create mirafiore effects. With these canes, you create beads that you can fashion into one-of-a-kind wearable art. Cane work is the basis for Polymer Clay creations. Ever get a good shot and not know how to repeat the happy accident? Come and learn all the basics of photography and how to apply them using your digital camera with Paul Salazar, professional photographer and instructor. This class is for beginners 16+. You must bring your own digital point-&-shoot* or DSLR camera (no phone or pad cameras, please!) with fully-charged batteries. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be going outside the Museum to shoot. Space is limited; preregistration and payment required to reserve your spot. *Point-&-shoot cameras will not allow all the setting options or yield the same results as a DSLR will. Life Draw Our very popular Life Draw continues most Wednesdays from 1-4pm. This non-instructional class features a live nude model. Artists bring their own supplies and work at their own speed. No photography permitted. Artists 21+ may preregister for the next month for $15 per session, and are guaranteed a seat each week. There are no refunds, make-ups, or prorated fees for missed preregistered sessions. Artists wanting to preregister may do so up by the first Wednesday of the month they are registering for; after that, they may walk in if space allows for $20 per session. Level: Experienced artists 21+. Minimum: 8; Maximum: 20 participants. With juried shows becoming more restrictive, professional photographer Paul Salazar will teach you how to shoot your own completely original source materials to paint from. Bring two or three of your favorite small chachkies to create a gang set-up to practice shooting from. Learn to find the most interesting composition and how to adjust your lighting for best results. Transforming mundane subject matter into magical artwork will be emphasized. Four hours of instruction and a half-hour lunch with the instructor make up the class. Bonus: Lunch* is included! iphoneography Basics with Livia Kropf DeBonet Join award-winning photographer and instructor, Livia Kropf DeBonet for workshop on getting the best photos with your iphone. In this workshop you will learn to shoot, edit and share photographs right from your phone. We will go over some of the latest and best camera apps, practice capturing HDR, panoramas and slow shutter photos. Participants are required to have their own iphone 5 or newer and to download the required apps prior to the workshop (about $6). You will learn how to draw and develop a portrait in watercolor from your own photo of yourself or a loved one in this two-day workshop. Susana will show you techniques for achieving the best results and capturing a great likeness. Bring your own painting supplies some materials provided. A list will be available at sign-up. The prepaid fee is $15 per each three-hour session ($5 per hour all other classes are $14 per hour!) You must pre-pay for all Wednesdays in the month to reserve your spot. There is no Museum Member discount for Life Draw. You must check in at the front desk and claim your spot by 12:45pm. Choose your spot when you get here first come, first served (you may come into The Studio as early as 12:15pm to choose a spot). If you have not checked in by 12:55pm, we reserve the right to sell your space to anyone waiting. There are NO refunds or make-ups for pre-paid missed sessions. The Elliott Museum reserves the right to cancel the class due to low participation.
