Team Ambassadors Each team will be assigned an Ambassador this year. Your Ambassador's job is to make sure you know what you are doing, you have the supplies you need, and you are complying with deadlines. If you do not ask any questions, they will assume you are okay, please ask them questions!! If they are not answering your questions, contact Linda Regelin. Linda Regelin lindarflmonroemi@gmail.com Relay Online Register online. The website is www.relayforlife.org/monroemi. Register by clicking on "Join this Relay", then follow the instructions on the screen. Send an e-mail to all your teammates with the link so they can register online. Send e-mails to all your friends and family for donations and post the website on your Facebook, Twitter, etc. and instruct your teammates to do the same. Money turned in will be tracked online for you. Richard Blackmore richardablackmore@gmail.com Team Captain Kit You should receive your Team Captain Welcome Kit in the mail; it would have been in a 5x11 envelope. If you don't have your kit, please let Kristen know. Kristen Pilon kristen.pilon@cancer.org Team Captain Binder We have organized everything you should need for the event season into this Team Captain Binder. This is event specific information, if you feel like something is missing, let us know and we will be sure to share this with you. Review your binder and come to the first meeting with questions. If you have questions between meetings, reach out to your Team Ambassador. You can make copies for your teammates. Electronic copies of these documents are posted to our website. Sarah Burkstrand sarahmonroerfl@gmail.com Tent Tents can be whatever you'd like, just make sure you have some sort of shelter for all team members. Make sure you bring tables, chairs, blankets, rain coats, bug spray, sunscreen, extra socks, sweatshirts, jeans, umbrella, lights, etc. Pg. 1 of 5

Tent Decorating Now that you have formed a team it is time to get started with the planning. The theme this year is "Christmas in June" You can choose to decorate your tent using the theme or not, it is up to you. The theme is just there to get you started, but you do not have to use it. You can get elaborate or just go simple, everything is up to you. If you are just starting and you have never been out to Relay you may want to start small. Get a feel for it for the first year or two and then go all out. Even though we want you to have fun with our theme, please remember there is no alcohol of any kind allowed at our event. In addition you can't have any games of chance at your site. Also, in an effort to increase awareness of stage announcements we ask that there be no DJs or loud music at your individual site. *Decorating your tent and having an onsite fundraiser are option. If you want to make them correlate with each other sometime that can easier!! Baton This is a Relay, so you will need a baton. A baton can be anything, but remember you have to carry it all day so make it something that is lightweight and easy to carry. You can not plug it in, but you can have battery operated parts!! You can make it match your tent theme or make it represent why you Relay. Remember, the person walking for your team will need to carry it at all times. Materials Materials will be available before and after all meetings. Please be kind and share with others. We will hand out yard signs as Relay approaches. Action Steps Please take the steps stated on the card, check them off when completed, and bring the card to the next meeting to show your progress. If you follow these steps you should be on target for a successful 2017! Linda Regelin lindarflmonroemi@gmail.com Media/PR Do you have a story you would like to share or know someone who does of their personal journey with cancer? Know anyone who has used ACS resources? Having a fundraiser? Have a human interest story? If you do, pass this information onto Brittany and she will post this on Facebook! Brittany Novak britt.novak@gmail.com Corporate Sponsorships Corporate sponsorships can be received from local businesses. If you are getting your own sponsorships make sure to check the Do Not Solicit list in your binder to make sure they are not a sponsor of Relay as a whole. DO NOT GO TO MEIJER, they are already a huge supporter. Make sure to send a thank you to anyone who donates. Kristen Pilon kristen.pilon@cancer.org Pg. 2 of 5

Survivorship If you know a survivor please give them an invitation to our survivor festivities at Relay. There are save the dates in your binder. Let your Ambassador know if you need more. Remember Survivors are one of the reasons we Relay! We want that number of survivors participating in the event to continue to grow. Activities include a Survivor Lap, breakfast, and more! Sue Pickens lpickens@chartermi.net Caregivership Caregivers are an integral part of a cancer patient's journey, we want to recognize that. There will be a Caregiver Registration area in the Survivor Registration Tent. We invite all cancer survivors and caregivers to submit their caregiver story which will be displayed in the Hall of Remembrance. Tina Russeau tinarusseau@sbcglobal.net Pre-Relay Fundraising If you are having a fundraiser, email it to Brittany Novak and it'll be posted to our website and on Facebook! Brittany Novak britt.novak@gmail.com Onsite Fundraising Relay is a time to make friends and to make money for the American Cancer Society. If you would like to make money you do what is called an onsite fundraiser. This is some sort of activity you do at your site. It can be anything you can imagine, be creative, think of something new. The internet can be a great resource for this. Again, if you are new, start out small, do just one fundraiser, then as you become more seasoned go crazy!!!! Examples would be selling glow sticks, having a carnival game, selling pre-packaged food, etc. See the website for fundraising tips. **This is optional** NO RAFFLES!! Check out Relay Nation for some great ideas; you can become a member of Relay Nation from your Relay homepage using the same username and password as getting to your dashboard! You can also ask your Team Ambassador for help with this! Please submit your onsite fundraiser to Tiffany Thiel by May 11th! Tiffany Thiel tiffany_thiel@hotmail.com Purple Points Spirit Points are back and better than ever...introducing PUPRLE POINTS!! You can earn Purple Points when you do certain activities before Relay. At each meeting, you can let Brittany know which tasks you've completed that earn you points (flyer is in the binder). Any team who has earned at least 2,500 points by May 23rd will receive a special yard sign at Relay and the top 3 teams will receive a medal to wear at the event with pride! **This is optional** Brittany Roberts brittanyjoyroberts@gmail.com Pg. 3 of 5

Silent Auction We ask that you not have team raffles at your site. Obtaining a license is a long and lengthy process and the rules and regulations are pages long! This year we will be hosting our event-wide Silent Auction. There is additional information in your Team Captain Binder. Stacey Wyckoff dolphlove1@hotmail.com Fundraising Club Fundraising Club signs will be provided to you at Team Captain Meetings and throughout Relay. After each banking time, we will congratulate teams that have reached a new levels at the stage. We invite you to come up to the stage to get your new sticker. Tiffany Thiel tiffany_thiel@hotmail.com Food Permits Selling food (other than pre-packaged items) will require a food permit. Food permits are around $100 and need to be submitted at least 14 days before Relay (May 20th). If you are selling food, please state so on your logistics survey. Information on obtaining food permits will be shared at the Team Captain Meeting on April 20th and on our website. Campers/RVs If you wish to have a camper/rv at Relay with electricity hook up the fee will be $30. This will be payable by cash or check (payable to ). Permits can be purchased in advance or Friday at Relay. RV's must stay in fairgrounds until 10 am on Sunday. Also, please drive VERY SLOWLY at all times!!! Mission Delivery The Mission Delivery building houses information about cancer, cancer related youth science fair projects from Monroe County, Mission Delivery will provide information & activities to highlight the many ACS programs such as Road to Recovery, Reach to Recovery & Look Good...Feel Better, etc. The focus of Mission Delivery is cancer education, resources, advocacy and research. We are looking for teams to host a Mission site as part of the Mission Passport. If you are interested, please contact Terri. Terri Langton Terri2ns@yahoo.com Advocacy American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society. By becoming a member, you are making your voice heard! You receive action alerts to respond to our state legislators and congressmen to let them know that cancer should be a priority of government. Pg. 4 of 5

Entertainment Entertainment will be going on throughout the 24 hours. A schedule of these events will be handed out as soon as it's completed! Ceremonies There are several ceremonies throughout the 24 hours. They include the Opening Ceremony, Fight Back Ceremony, Luminaria Ceremony, and the Closing Ceremony. You will be given descriptions and a complete schedule of these ceremonies once they are finalized. Willie Lass wlass@charter.net Activities The Activity and Lap Themes will be distributed as soon as it is complete. Security Plan All Relay Participants must wear a wrist band. You will get your wrist bands before Relay. You will need to request wrist bands for everyone on your team and people you know are coming out to see you. Write your team name and site number on all of your wristbands. You are responsible for anyone you give a wristband to, so keep that in mind when passing them out. If you see a team member without a wristband on you should give them one. The security team will start making passes at 7 pm. At 11 pm anyone not wearing a wristband will be asked to leave. If someone is misbehaving or lost the security team will bring them to the site number on their wrist band and the team captain will be responsible for this person. Luminaria Information General Information As the sun begins to set thousands of luminaria light the way under the stars as a time of silent reverence falls upon the relay. Luminaria are glowing bags that appear to be simply paper sacks filled with cans and candles, but every bag represents a life that battled cancer. The luminaria ceremony is one of the most emotional moments at Relay. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer, support those fighting cancer, and rejoice with those who have fought and won. Luminaria Names Anyone can purchase a Luminaria for a minimum donation of $10 each. All names should be listed on the Luminaria Log Sheet in your Team Captain packet. Each member of your team should get a copy of this form. All names will need to be turned in by May 23rd in order to be on display at Relay. Directions on how to do this are in your binder.
