KATHY KANSIER www.kathykansier.com My name is Kathy Kansier. I am a quilt teacher, quilt show judge and AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser. I travel to provide these services for guilds, shops, and quilt shows. I have been happily married to my husband, David for 37 years. We live in Southwest Missouri, between Springfield and Branson. David owns a construction company. We both grew up in Wisconsin, became born-again Christians in 1980, and served as missionaries to Mexico prior to moving to Missouri in 1993. Our seven children are grown and we are now enjoying being grandparents. I like making quilts using a variety of techniques, colors and fabrics. I would be bored if I only made one type of quilt. One day I may be working on a hand appliqué quilt, the next day I may be piecing quilt blocks on my BERNINA sewing machine and the next day I may be beading on an art quilt. I also enjoy making baskets, rug hooking and cross stitching. 1

The appliqué quilt in my photo on this page is one I designed. I self-published a book with the directions and patterns for this quilt. The book, along with other items I have for sale, can be purchased on the store page of this web site. I also made the quilt that was used for the background of this web site. It is an underwater scene with lots of beads and embellishments. More of my quilts, student quilts and antique quilts can be seen in the gallery section. I recently updated my web site and I hope you will enjoy all the information you will find on it. Please visit often because I will be adding quilt making tutorials, articles, and good recipes to my blog on an ongoing basis. I love reading about quilts on other web sites so I have added a huge number of quilt-related links for you to explore. If you have a guild or quilt show and are interested in having me teach, judge or appraise, please refer to my services page. If you are a student who will be in one of my upcoming workshops, you will be able to find a photo of the workshop project as well as the supply list in that section. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me. I enjoy seeing quilts, making quilts and encouraging others to enjoy quilt making. The best aspects of my quilt making experience are the places I have visited and the friends I have met along the way. I look forward to possibly having you as one of my quilt making friends too! 2

Learn to make perfect circles, even stems, smooth curves, sharp points and expert machine appliqué stitches while making block #3 from the book. The finished size of the block is 16 x 16. It may become a pillow, wall hanging or the start of Kathy s nine-block appliqué quilt. This is a great class for those new to appliqué and for those who want to sharpen their appliqué skill level. Students will learn both turned-under and raw-edge machine appliqué techniques. Kathy will teach how to use a variety of machine stitches to finish the edges of the appliqué. SUPPLY LIST: A sewing machine in good working order (it should be able to do a blanket stitch, zigzag stitch and blind hem stitch), the operator s manual for the sewing machine, 4 empty bobbins for the machine, small embroidery scissor with a sharp point, paper scissor, silk pins with a glass head, mechanical pencil with an eraser, and a seam ripper OPTIONAL KIT: The students can purchase a $45 kit from Kathy on the day of class. #205 QUILTS WITH GREAT EDGES Thursday, March 28, 2019 All Levels CLASS DESCRIPTION: Students will learn a variety of techniques to complete the edges of their quilts. They will make take-home samples including a double-fold binding with mitered corners and connected tails, rickrack binding, reversible binding, a fused binding, scallops and piping. Students will learn about the history of bindings, when to use single-fold, double-fold, bias and straight binding and how to finish a binding with hand or machine stitches. SUPPLY LIST: Bring one 15 x 15 quilt block or quilt sandwich. The layers should be basted or quilted and have a thin batting (e.g. Hobbs 80/20 or Warm & Natural). The batting and backing should be 1 larger than the quilt top on all four sides. Bring a coordinating binding fabric for this square (cut before class 2 strips, each 2 ½ x 42, cut selvage to selvage or on the bias), cotton thread to match the binding fabric, and basic sewing supplies including scissors, pins, a mechanical pencil and a needle for hand sewing. Each student will need a sewing machine with some decorative stitches. A needle down feature is helpful. KIT: A $55 kit will be purchased by each student for the class.
