Model 1151B Network Clock Preliminary, April 2013 Specifications subject to change without notice Heartbeat of the Smart Grid TM Clock defines a new generation of advanced timing devices, becoming the Heartbeat of the Smart GridTM. Features include a modern user interface, network capabilities and an all new modular design allowing the user to customize the configuration to meet all of their grid timing needs. Interface Clock comes standard with three independent Ethernet ports (10/100 Mb/s) with RJ 45 or optional fiber connectors. Configuration and status information are available via a web interface or SSH console. Designed with security in mind, suitable encryption, authentication, validation and password access restrictions help you to meet NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. Primary and Backup Timing References Primarily intended to use GPS as a source of time, the Model 1151B Network Clock also offers Galileo and GLONASS receivers as well as internal high precision holdover oscillators. Other clocks in the same substation using IRIG B, IEEE 1588 (PTP), NTP or SNTP may also be used for backup and redundancy. Clock continually provides an estimate of its accuracy. Real time information about the status of each available time source can be provided and alarms are generated when any timing sources are lost, impaired or compromised. Modular Design Capable of being custom tailored to each user's needs, the Arbiter Systems, Inc. Model 1151B Network Clock takes advantage of four module slots. Two of the four modules are a power supply/receiver module and a network module. The other two slots can be equipped with a legacy input/output module, configurable output module, a second power supply/receiver module or a second network module. Custom modules may be available for a nominal NRE fee. PD0047800B 1
Modular Configuration Four slots, user configurable. Minimum of one Power/Receiver module and one Network module required. Additional modules are optional and can be duplicated for redundancy. Power/Receiver Module The Power/Receiver module comes standard with an universal power supply that accepts inlet power from 85 to 264 Vac (47 440 Hz) or from 110 to 350 Vdc at less than 30 Watts. In addition to providing power, this module is equipped with a receiver for synchronizing time, by default GPS but optionally can be Galileo or GLONASS satellite systems. Optional high performance oscillators are also available on this module. GPS Timing Accuracy Specifications apply at an output set for 1 PPS. UTC/USNO ±50 ns rms, when receiving 4 or more satellites and Position Hold Mode on GPS Synchronization Analog and time code output signals are synchronized to internal 1 PPS, ±50 ns, maximum. IRIG B modulated, ±1 μs, maximum (S)NTP, ±100 μs, maximum PTP/IEEE 1588, ±50 ns, maximum The leading edge of the start bit of a received RS 232 data message may be selected to trigger the Event A input, providing synchronization with 100 ns resolution. GPS Position Accuracy 10 meters, rms, 90% confidence 2 Power/Receiver Module (Continued) GPS Satellite Tracking Twelve (12) channel, GPS L1, C/A code (1575.42 MHz). Receiver simultaneously tracks up to twelve satellites. Results from all tracked satellites are averaged in Position Hold Mode or, with Position Hold Mode off, using least squares estimation. GPS Acquisition 150 seconds typical, cold start 15 minutes, 90% confidence, cold start 40 seconds, typical, with almanac < 1 month old 15 seconds, typical, with ephemeris < 4 hours old The GPS Data Backup Battery is included in the Model 1151B. This feature improves acquisition time by supplying constant power to the real time clock and RAM in the GPS receiver module. If almanac, ephemeris and time are provided via network connections, acquisition will be completed in less than 15 seconds. Optional Receivers GPS GLONASS Galileo (TBD) Network Module The Network Module is the communications interface for the Model 1151B, all configuration is performed over one of the Ethernet Ports (3 provided) using the web interface or the SSH console. The three ports are independently configured and can be either copper 10/100 BaseT connectors or fiber optic connectors (SFF). One digital input and output and one analog input and output are also included. The digital input may be used as an event timer, while the analog input may be used to monitor frequency.

By installing the LIO module in the network clock the following standard clock functions are immediately available: eight high drive timing outputs, one modulated IRIG B (analog) timing output, two RS 232 multifunction serial ports, one RS 485 multifunction serial port, one set of SPDT multifunction relay contacts, event input measurement, wide input voltage, and an analog line frequency measurement. All of these signals are accessible via the 48 pin high density connector. Holdover Oscillators Two versions, providing 10 μs/day or 1 ms/day guaranteed holdover (typically 5 to 10 times better). Standard performance is < 50 ms/day.
