SUMMER 2017
In 2013, Paulina Nassar, Nick Sarno, and Sergio Traverso began WEST COAST CRAFT with the goal to create a space for makers they thought were underrepresented in other craft fairs: people creating things that blurred the line between fine crafts and high art. People who were engaged with their communities, and embodied the cool but sunny, laid back yet innovative mood of the West Coast. Through West Coast Craft, they hope to give these artist and designer craftsmen and women a place to shine, and through programs like WCC SCHOLARSHIPS, provide a launch pad for the designers of the future. In addition to its vendors, WEST COAST CRAFT works with visual artists to exhibit work at the show, often times large-scale and site-specific. Previous WCC artists include Sally England, Charlie Brand, Ellen Van Dusen, Ben Venom, Meghan Shimek, J.S. Nero, Jason Jägel, Joyce Nojima, Rachel Kaye, Jay Nelson, Robbie Simon, Trevor Goosen, 69, Luckey Remington, Sarah Hotchkiss, Tahiti Pearson, Lisa Rybovich Crallé, Aaron Rodriguez, Smith Allen Studio; artists from the Oakland nonprofit, Creative Growth; as well as students from the California College of the Arts, and the MFA program in Applied Craft + Design at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the Oregon College of Art. As part of West Coast Featuring 250+ carefully selected craftspeople inspired by the mood and aesthetics of the West Coast lifestyle, WCC is a craft and design show unlike any Craft s scholarship program, WCC offers free half booths to highlight the work of emerging artists and designers who have never shown in a large craft or design show. other.
