The CBBS Executive Team Kacy Wallis Kacy Wallis Executive Director Kacy joined AdvoCal in 1999, becoming a partner in 2004. As CBBS' new Executive Director, she is responsible for the oversight of the society's daily operations and the carrying out of CBBS's strategic goals. She manages all CBBS staff and serves as the point of contact for the CBBS leadership. In addition, she serves as transition manager providing structure and stability to ensure a smooth transition from Bobrow and Associates to AdvoCal. Driven towards details, she also serves as CBBS' Chief Event Planner and Graphic Designer. Kacy is also an active member of both the California Society of Association Executives (CalSAE) and American Society of of Association Executives (ASAE). In this role, she participates in several workshops each year, including the Association Management Company retreat. Outside of her professional career, she also holds a board position on the Coyote Ridge Elementary Parent Teacher Association (PTA). In her free time, Kacy enjoys spending time with her husband and 6 yr old daughter. Together, the family enjoys off-road motor sports, camping, home improvement projects, and leisurely bike rides on their beach cruiser bicycles. Alexandra "Alex" Kerstner Alexandra Kerstner Webmaster and CME Support Alex joined AdvoCal in February 2004, and became a principal in 2014. Alex is affectionately known as AdvoCal's "jack of all trades." She serves CBBS' in Webmaster and CME Support roles. Alex manages the continuing education accreditations for our clients including audits and ensures accreditation compliance. She is well versed in all aspects of the YourMembership.com website platform currently utilized by CBBS and is the lead when transitioning clients from their current web program to YourMembership.com. Alex is a graduate of the University of Washington. Born and raised in Germany, Alex enjoys travel and exploring new cultures, which is where her interest in photography serves her well. She is an avid back-country camper and hiker, with her partner, Jason, and their beloved German Shepard/Chocolate Lab mix, Gibson, by her side. Page 2
Danielle McKee (formerly Phillips) Membership and Administrative Services, Vendor Relations and Social Media Director Danielle joined AdvoCal in March 2014. Her myriad of skills make her a welcome addition to our team. She earned her Bachelor s degree in Government from California State University, Sacramento. Danielle is the first point of contact for CBBS members. She handles CBBS customer service and support, database management, social media and e-communications, document processing, meeting planning support, vendor/sponsorship relations, sales and management. She is also AdvoCal's online marketing and social media director. Danielle Phillips Danielle is a valued member of her community. She has served as a volunteer with the Butte Humane Society, Ampla Healthcare (formerly Del Norte Clinics) and the Yuba City Kiwanis Key Club. In addition, she is a past member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. In her free time, Danielle treasures being with her friends and family. She loves to read, cook and enjoys watching her dad's band perform on the weekends. Moody Jahan Controller Ms. Jahan holds a Bachelor s Degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. As Controller, Moody brings more than 22 years of finance and accounting experience to AdvoCal and its clients. Moody is in charge of AdvoCal s accounting department and is responsible for providing the financial reports to each of AdvoCal s management clients. Her extensive experience in accounting allows our clients the freedom to focus on what they do best. Prior to joining AdvoCal, Ms. Jahan worked 11 years as Controller and HR Manager for two semiconductor companies, most recently a local start-up and prior to that, a subsidiary of a public Israeli company. Her early career included more than 10 years with CPA firms, performing accounting functions for various organizations, including non-profits. In her spare time, Moody enjoys taking walks, playing cards, going to the beach and other nature sites with her family. She loves the game of backgammon and carom board and considers herself an advanced player at both. Moody Jahan Page 3
Steve Cattolica Steve Cattolica Contract Review and Consultant Steve joined AdvoCal in March 2004, and became a principal in 2014. He holds a degree in Physical Sciences from the University of California and a secondary teaching credential from St. Mary s College in Moraga, California. Steve began his career in healthcare in the practice management field, served in management roles in operations, human resources, product development, marketing and regulatory compliance. Steve developed and successfully ran an enterprise that combined a full service medical cost containment and managed care organization (MCO) with a medical management services organization (MSO). During this same time, representing the interests of his physician clients, Steve was deeply involved with the revision of the Official Medical Fee Schedule as well as formation and later revision of the Medical-Legal Fee Schedule and In-patient Medical Fee Schedule. Prior to joining AdvoCal, Steve was responsible for obtaining the original certification for and served as Director of Operations for California s largest certified Health Care Organization (HCO). Steve's extensive medical-related background allows him to serve CBBS as a consultant in a wide variety of topics. As one of AdvoCal's lobbyists, Steve is an expert in contract and policy writing, and, therefore, will help fulfill the contract review needs of CBBS. Carlyle Brakensiek, JD, MBA Contract Review and Consultant Carlyle R. Carl Brakensiek holds a degree in Business Administration from Occidental College, a Master of Business Administration degree in Corporate Finance from the UCLA Graduate School of Management and a Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California. He has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1970. Carlyle "Carl" Brakensiek After graduation from law school, he served with the Federal Trade Commission, then joined the California Department of Corporations, where he practiced corporate securities and franchising law. He also served as the department s Legislative Coordinator, gaining valuable experience with both lobbying and the legislative process. Page 4
Who We Are From 1974 to 1981, Mr. Brakensiek was General Counsel and Chief of Staff for the California Assembly Committee on Finance, Insurance and Commerce. During this time, he became the Assembly s specialist on legislation affecting insurance, consumer finance, financial institutions, real property finance, franchising, professional malpractice, unemployment insurance, state funds investment, local government monetary policies and public utilities. In addition, for over seven years, he was the Chief Consultant to the Legislature s Workers Compensation Subcommittee and served for nearly two years as the Special Consultant to the Workers Compensation Task Force of the National Conference of State Legislatures in Denver, Colorado, and testified in that capacity before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Labor in Washington, D.C. Mr. Brakensiek became a registered legislative advocate in 1981 and a founding partner of AdvoCal in 1983. During his lobbying career, he has represented a wide range of business clients and currently serves as Executive Vice President of the California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery. He received awards for top membership development by the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association. He is a Charter Member of the 501(c) Network, a Sacramento consortium of senior association executives. Mr. Brakensiek is a member of the Executive Committee of the Institute of Governmental Advocates, the professional association for lobbyists in California. He was 1991-92 Chairman of the State Executives Council of the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association. For seven years, Brakensiek was a guest lecturer on private sector legislative advocacy at the Graduate School of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley, and regularly lectures on lobbying for the California Journal Legislative Seminars. Mr. Brakensiek is a Life Member of the National Eagle Scout Association. In law school, he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Professional Responsibility.
