TIPS FOR RAISING MONEY FOR THE CAUSE YOU CARE ABOUT Own the Fundraising Result 1. Be the first! By donating to your own supporter page you are showing your commitment to your fundraising and setting the benchmark for other donations. 2. Remember to include pictures of yourself - people want to see who they are donating to. 3. Update your supporter page! Keep your donors and potential donors updated with your progress. How is the fundraising going? What obstacles have you come across? What are you really enjoying etc. 4. Tell your story! Let supporters know WHY you are doing what you are doing. They want to know share your passion. 5. If you hit your target, or you are less than $100 away from reaching it increase it! If people think you are close to meeting your target they may not donate the $200 they were going to if you are only $75 off your goal. 6. Let people know how much to donate e.g $10 will provide 5 blankets, $100 will provide a years heating. You want them to know that any amount they are able to give will make a difference. 7. Thank your donors! Let them know their donation has been noticed and appreciated. 8. Contact your charity. They will love to hear from you, let them know what you are doing for them and ask if they have any materials to help you raise as much money for them as possible! 9. Share your fundraising page on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms spread the word! 10. Finally ask again! People often need reminding, if you asked them once and they haven t donated ask again, they may have just forgotten and wont begrudge a friendly reminder.

RAISING MONEY AS A TEAM Who doesn t enjoy spending time with their friends? No one! Which is why raising money for your favourite cause with them is so much more fun than going it alone! 1. Make some fun team t shirts! (Don t forget to include your Team Page link). You can sell them to your friends and family for them to show their support with all money raised going to your Supporter Pages! (and even better, when they wear them they are also promoting your link to anyone who see s them!) 2. Put up posters around your local area that display your Team Page link. 3. Email the local press promoting your Team Page along with a photo of you guys having fun! 4. Get together as a team and hold a trivia evening or a bbq etc invite your friends and family, show all of them your passion for your charity and the effort you are willing to put in to reach your team goal. 5. Set weekly or monthly goals for each member to spread your money raising message further and to keep the momentum going! Goals for every team member could include - Make a donation to your own Supporter Page, this not only shows your commitment to the cause but also moves you off the zero balance! Email your Team Page link at least 30 of your friends - really use all of your networks! Share your Team Page link on your Facebook wall Tweet your Team Page link Ask your employer to sponsor you, or see if there is a matched giving scheme which a lot of businesses will have set up. Don t forget to have fun! The reason you are raising money is for a great cause, the reason you are doing it with your friends is because you all share the same passion!

GIVING THINGS UP TO RAISE MONEY FOR YOUR CAUSE We all know how hard it can be to give up something you enjoy to help raise money for a cause you care about, but stick to our top tips to help you along... 1. Safety in numbers! Get your friends and family involved, the moral support of others also going without will really help pick you up on those low days. 2. If you have given up a certain food or drink to raise money (go you!), then make sure you replace it with something healthier so there isn t just a big gaping void to remind you of what you are missing e.g replace chocolate with fruit (okay not a great substitute but you get the idea). 3. Let everyone know what you are doing! Print off business cards with your Supporter Page link on it, with a small description of what you have given up and why to hand out to people when they inquire about your particular abstinence. 4. If you are abstaining from an activity you normally did (like drinking beer in a pub or buying lunch) then make sure you choose another fun activity to do to take your mind off it! Taking up an exercise is a great way to fend off any negative thoughts e.g Yoga or Swimming. 5. Reward yourself! Even before your time of abstinence is up just treat yourself to a movie ticket, or a nice meal to keep your enthusiasm going! 6. Tell people. Send out personalised emails to round up those around you for support - don t just spam your address book. Those few minutes spent making that connection to an email recipient can really make all the difference. 7. Don t worry! If you do break and end up doing or having what you had promised to give up, just pay a fine (donate to your Supporter Page) and carry on for the rest of your time commitment don t let one slip ruin all the hard work you have put in already!

RAISING MONEY USING FACEBOOK 1. Create an event on Facebook (or if your activity isn t happening at a particular time, create a group) and invite all of your friends to join remember to include a personal message in your invite so they don t just feel spammed. This is a great way to gather all your supporters and potential supporters in one area. 2. On your event/group page don t forget to suggest sponsorship amounts to your audience take the pressure off them to just know how much to donate, be bold tell them how much a few different amounts will help your cause (some high amounts, some low amounts). 3. Post your supporter page link on Facebook! Let your friends know what you are doing and if they can t donate ask them to simply share the link to their network of friends you want the most exposure possible for your supporter page. 4. Include your story on your event/group on Facebook! Tell people what you are doing and for what cause and the reasons behind your endeavor. People will want to know. What you are doing is brilliant and you needn t be shy about sharing it with your friends. 5. Upload photos, show your Facebook friends you in action, show them pictures of the cause you care about share your passion with them. 6. Make a video! With the amount of camera phones around it is now very simple create a short video (2minutes is plenty) to show your face and speak to your willing audience! Really inspire them to want to help you raise as much as possible. 7. Everyone seems to be on Facebook these days, including your charity! Find them, like their page and post on their wall connect with them. They will want to hear from you, trust us.

RAISING MONEY USING TWITTER 1. Tweet your supporter page link to your followers! Include in your tweet Please ReTweet to encourage them to do so! You can tweet your page link more than once, don t bombard your followers but make sure you don t let them forget about the fantastic effort you are putting into raising money for your important cause. 2. Update your twitter bio to include your fundraising story, and whilst you are editing your profile why not add your supporter link in as your dedicated website. 3. @message your friends, celebrities (and your charity if they are on Twitter) ask them to retweet your link this way you are getting exposure to their followers as well! (you will be surprised at how many people will agree to do this! 4. Compose a 140 character message to direct message your followers on you can make this more personal as it won t be public and you can choose who you send it to. Tell them about your supporter page and cause, ask for their support get their help to spread your inspiring venture.

RAISING MONEY USING INSTAGRAM 1. Capture your passion! Take photos that show the reason behind your decision to raise funds, images that represent the cause you care about and why. Let your donors/potential donors be aware of the importance of what you are doing. 2. Behind the Scenes! Keep your followers in the loop with your preparation if you are running a marathon, show them all those mornings and evenings you are sacrificing with humorous pictures and captions. 3. Map your progress! Geotag your Instagram posts, it s a great way to showcase where you ve taken photos and also make them available for others who visit the same area to see you were there and find out what you were doing really fun to use at large events like marathons! 4. Show what you are doing! Upload photos of your event, this will really help when you are asking for donations after your event has taken place proof of what you did and the fun you had doing it. 5. Hashtag your photos. Choose hashtags that are relevant to your event and cause so that your images crop up in searches on Instagram. 6. Share socially! Link your Instagram account to Twitter and Facebook so that when you upload a photo all your friends across all your networks can see and enjoy it. 7. Screenshot your supporter page! Putting up a photo of your Supporter Page is a brilliant way to show your followers how they can donate! (also don t forget to include your Page link in your accompanying comments) 8. Tag your Cause! If your charity is using Instagram don t forget to tag them in your photo comments to make them aware of what you are doing so they can get behind you as well! And finally don t forget to follow @EverydayHero so we are able to see all of the great photos you are posting and share them with our community!.

TOP WAYS TO RAISE MONEY VIA EMAIL 1. Update your email signature to include your supporter page link ask your friends to do the same. It is such a simple, free way to reach more people (aka potential supporters) with every email you send. 2. Send an email out to your address book. Write your story, include your supporter link. Let everyone you know what you are doing whilst giving them the opportunity to share in your passion AND help you raise money. 3. Thank your sponsors! Send them an email to show your appreciation, keep them in the loop, let them know how much their sponsorship will make a difference. 4. Send more than one email. Don t bombard your email contacts but don t give up after 1 attempt. People often need reminding of the awesome cause you are raising money for and how you are doing it! We would recommend sending about 2 emails before your event and 1 email after. 5. Send all of your sponsors one final email once your event has passed, let them know how it went, send a few photos and a video if you have one. Make them feel proud of supporting you, because they should be. 6. Reach out to your charity! The majority of charities are now online, which means they will have an email address available for you to contact them on. Tell them what you are doing. include some pictures and your supporter page link. Who wouldn t want to hear what amazing feat you are going to so you can raise money for them.

RAISING MONEY OFFLINE 1. Put up posters! Around your local town, in shop windows, at your local community hall, at work ask before you put them up, but if you explain what you are doing for a great cause people are not likely to say no! 2. Ask people face to face, don t be frightened by their response you are doing something amazing and you should be confident to ask for sponsorship from your friends and family, and doing so in person is so much more powerful than any other way. 3. Who doesn t love receiving a hug! Offer out hugs in your local shopping centre on a busy Saturday afternoon in return for a small donation (or if they don t want a hug, have to hand sweets, next best thing) 4. Give up something for the day! Use your phone too much? Spend hours on Facebook? Ask your friends and family to sponsor you to give up your beloved past time for the day, or if you are feeling particularly bold a whole week. 5. Contact your local media! Call up your local newspaper and let them know what you are doing if they run an article on you be sure to include your supporter page link so people can donate easily. 6. Approach your local businesses whose services you often use (bakers, dry cleaners) and ask if they are happy for you to leave a collection tin on their counter. You can even offer to hand out flyers on their behalf to sweeten the deal.

RAISING MONEY AT HOME 1. Host a cook off! Ask your friends and family to each contribute their favourite dish for an evening of delicious foods with everyone paying an entrance fee to your supporter page to take part. At the end of the evening have everyone vote and then present the winner with a token gesture (a toy medal or printed certificate for example) as well as complete and utter bragging rights. 2. You know all those mobile phones you have taking up space in drawers you never open in your home? Good news! There are companies out there who are willing to give you money for these decorative paperweights! Recycling your old phone will not only help your carbon footprint but also contribute to your money raised! 3. Been putting off washing your car? You re most likely one of a large number of people in your neighbourhood doing the exact same thing. Why not offer up your car cleaning services one Saturday and in return the happy clean car owners give to your supporter page? 4. Do you know a lot of busy people who are always complaining about never having time to get things done? Offer to run their errands for a small fee! 5. Been thinking about having a clear out? Put on a garage sale to get rid of all those unwanted items whilst at the same time raising money for your cause. 6. Place a swear jar at home. Pretty self-explanatory

RAISING MONEY AT SCHOOL 1. How much fun is it playing sport? How much more fun would it be if you could play sport AND raise money for your chosen charity? Hosting a mini sports tournament (soccer, cricket etc) is a great way to receive donations by just charging a small fee to take part as well as giving everyone a really fun day! 2. Reckon you could be quiet for a whole day? If you are up for the challenge why not get people to sponsor you to keep silent? Ask your classmates to join you as well to help raise even more money! 3. Do you go to school with people who enjoy eating cake? GREAT! With permission from your teachers simply ask a few of your friends (or friends parents) to help you bake up some cupcakes to take into school to sell to increase the amount of dollars on your supporter page. 4. Does your school often put on concerts or plays? Why not ask if you can charge an entrance fee to support your cause, or even serve drinks in the interval with all profits to go to your supporter page? 5. Who doesn t like wearing their own clothes? Very few people, which is why asking if you are able to have a Non uniform day at school is a great idea! In return for a small contribution to your supporter page all your classmates get to wear their own clothes to school.

RAISING MONEY AT WORK 1. People will rarely say no to cake. Hold a bake sale in your office as an afternoon treat and just ask for a donation to your supporter page in return for them indulging. 2. Ask your employer if they have any matched giving schemes or if they are willing to donate to your supporter page it may be tax deductible and can mean you get that one off large donation to really spur you on. 3. Hold a raffle with benefits! Offer up prizes that you know your colleagues would love to get e.g offer to fetch their morning coffee for a week, a free weekday lunch date with senior management, 1 months use of the best parking space! Use your imagination and don t be afraid to put in a little hard work to get the most participation from everyone. 4. Hold a dress down day and charge $5 each for your whole office to go casual for the day. Simple. 5. Auction off the chance to Be the boss for an afternoon (check with your manager first!). Your colleagues might relish in the chance to act as senior staff (best not to do this however if your boss is a surgeon/pilot/lion tamer) 6. Get a few of your friends to cook a dish each and then hold a staff lunch event and charge an entrance fee, saving everyone the hassle of bringing in their own packed lunch or having to go in search of delicious food elsewhere. 7. Ask your colleagues to sacrifice their morning coffee just 1 day a week and instead for them to give the amount they would have spent to your supporter page.
