JED-341 : 2008-08 Page 3 1 Scope The specification determines the guidelines for the identification of WABCO products. The marking shall be permanent. It shall not affect the function of the parts. The marking has to withstand the stresses occurring on the vehicle over the service life of the product, and it shall remain legible. WABCO needs the permanently attached marking in order to ensure the unique identification, clearly legible from the outside, of each product for traceability and product liability purposes. Required information Note - WABCO trademark JED-369 minimum 14 mm - PRI See PLM - Date of manufacture JED-226 - WABCO Identification No. 10-digit Optional - Serial number or data matrix - Customer identification number 2 Types of marking; requirements The requirements, such as appearance, dimensions, material, surface protection, position of the fields, etc are documented in drawings. If the devices are to be painted at the customer s, the identification shall be provided with a masking film or an anti-sticking layer if needed. In order to prevent any abuse, the nameplates shall be purchased from the released suppliers only. Therefore, the documents Release of Suppliers (Doc.Code 050) shall be strictly observed.

JED-341 : 2008-08 Page 5 3 Mandatory marking of products, mounted externally, unprotected 3.1 Standard marking The standard marking for all products that are mounted externally and unprotected shall be ensured by nameplates 899 053 814 4 or 899 053 804 4. 3.1.1 Design of the nameplates and layout of the fields 899 053 814 4 For nameplates attached to series products with data matrix code 1 WABCO trademark 2 Customer identification number 3 Date of manufacture JED-226 4 Serial number 5 Data matrix ISO 16022 - ECC 200 6 WABCO identification No. 10-digit 7 PRI 899 053 804 4 For nameplates attached to series products, silver colour with black trademark, 4-line 1 WABCO trademark 2 Customer identification number 3 - PRI 4 Date of manufacture JED-226 5 Data matrix ISO 16022 - ECC 200 6 Serial number 7 WABCO identification No. 10-digit 3.1.2 Resistance to temperatures -40 C up to +200 C 3.1.3 Resistance to media The legibility of the nameplates and markings shall not be affected by the materials that are usually applied in general traffic and in industrial plants, as for instance fuels, lubricants, brake fluids, cleaning agents, detergents etc. 3.1.4 Lettering height and depth of stamping Irrespective of the type of nameplate or direct stamping, - the lettering height shall be 2 mm; - the marking depth shall be 0,1 +0,1 mm. 3.1.5 Fastening methods On products that are ready for sale, the nameplates shall not be fastened by means of adhesive! 3.1.5.1 Standard fastening by means of tubular rivet, aluminium

The influence on corrosion protection has to be observed. Therefore, direct laser printing shall be applied on plastic surfaces only. 3.2.1 Design and layout of the markings - standard The design and the layout of the fields shall comply with the rules specified in chapter 4.1. Any indications needed in addition are given beneath or after the standard fields. 3.2.2 Layout of the fields on narrow surfaces, e.g. cables Properties: Resistance to media: see chapter 3.1.2 Resistance to temperatures: -40 C up to +130 C Additional requirements on the basis of chapters 4.1.1 and 4.1.2.
JED-341 : 2008-08 Page 7 4 Marking on products, mounted internally, protected The marking can be a colour impression, if the products are occasionally exposed to a humid internal atmosphere as for instance in the passenger compartment or in the closed engine compartment and if they get no additional coating. 4.1 Design and layout of the fields 1 WABCO trademark 2 - PRI 3 Date of manufacture JED-226 4 WABCO identification No. 10-digit 5 Serial number 6 Text as required 7 Customer identification number 8 Bar code 9 Text as required 899 200 670 4 4.1.1 Marking by means of colour, e.g. pad printing The colour of the marking has to meet the requirements specified in JED-581: white RAL 9010 for dark background, e. g. black potting compound; black RAL 9005 for bright background, e. g. Alu housings 4.1.2 Marking by means of an adhesive label Types of adhesive labels (reference only - current versions see PLM): JED-726-0: for decorative foils applied in the vehicle s interior; JED-726-1: for plastic labels applied in the vehicle s interior; JED-726-2: for plastic labels exposed to outdoor climate in protected installation position (e.g. engine compartment); JED-726-3: for plastic labels, resistant to solder bath, used for the identification of printed circuit boards. 5 Additional marking of products The additional marking means any indications given in addition to those specified in chapter 1. The additional marking may be an adhesive paper label. 5.1 Design and layout of the identification The design and layout of the markings is similar to chapter 4.1 Preferred variants: Ident. No. Where used Format Material 899 200 670 4 ECU 50 x 36 Paper 899 201 530 6 53 x 20 Paper 899 200 769 6 Printed Board 30 x 10 JED-726-3 899 200 820 6 Printed Board 30 x 6 JED-726-3 899 200 840 6 Customer info oval 30 x 12 JED-726-1 5.2 Identification of country of origin
JED-341 : 2008-08 Page 8 Only if legislation in the country of the end user demands such a marking (e.g. USA - 49CFR583), WABCO products will get the indication: >>>Made in...<<<< with the English country name according to ISO 3166-1 5.3 Products requiring approval, for instance e1 approval mark The identification of products requiring approval, for instance with the e1-xxnnnn approval mark, is demanded in the type approvals. The approval mark shall not be cast, and, for lack of space, it shall not be located on the nameplate. 5.4 Marking with customer-specific emblems and identification numbers In order to limit costs, customer-specific emblems or identification numbers shall be applied to WABCO products only after written consent by the marketing team. On all new products and in case of changes made to housings of existing products, a second area shall be provided in the proximity of the WABCO nameplate. This area is intended for the customer nameplate/marking. 5.5 Requirements Material: Paper, foil, or similar materials 6 Position, representation and print information 6.1 Position and fastening areas for markings - representation in the Rough Part Drawing In the rough part drawing, the areas provided for the identification shall be arranged such that the identification of the product ready for sale is clearly visible in installed condition on the vehicle (traceability). 6.2 Representation in the Outline Drawing and on the Sectional Drawing In case of a sectional drawing or outline drawing made by CAD, nameplates etc shall be represented with their outer contour and WABCO trademark in order to enable clear determination of their fastening position. The identifications shall be applied such that they can be read from the same side as the markings on the main ports or connections. Should this not be possible, they shall be legible from the right-hand side, just as the dimensions indicated in drawings. If a customer identification is applied, it shall be represented by its outer contour only. In the PLM product structure, no reference will be made to the customer identification. 6.3 Symbols in CAD The standard designs conforming to the present guideline are available as UDF (user-defined feature) in the CAD databases (in ProEng 3-D CAD) and in PartSolution. 6.4 Identification and printing information If the product requires considerable customer-specific printing information that frequently changes, we shall aim at the special documentation: 6.4.1 Artwork master for marking Doc Code 982 The layout of an identification shall be documented in an artwork master in order to avoid table drawings and to make use of the same printing equipment. 6.4.2 Labeling information for marking Doc Code 922 The document Labeling Information includes all the contents of the marking (trademark, product number, customer number etc.) to be applied on the nameplate or label by laser printing, needle printing or stamping. The marking refers to one product and/or customer only.
JED-341 : 2008-08 Page 9 6.4.3 Print information provided in SAP for the identification of products Customer-specific data shall be managed by all WABCO Business Units and WABCO sites in SAP reference files by the responsible customer teams.
