Report of Activities Neil R. Maki ft Partners Exploration Program OMEP Designation 65.5134 As noted in my application for designation of an exploration program our claim group located in Vincent and McCornber Townships, Thunder Bay Mining Division was optioned to Noranda Exploration during OctQber. -19&6V- Noranda did additional line cutting, geophysical surveys, geological mapping and sampling which I understand outlined several new geophysical anomalies and their sampling of exposures is inconclusive. This work of Noranda's is not part of our program and will not be commented on further. The purpose of our own exploration program was to further improve our property in case Noranda exploration terminated our option agreement and to determine if sufficient ore grade material could be outlined to warrant a small scale mining operation. I will mention at this time Noranda Exploration is deferring our October 31st option payment to January l, 1988 and March 311 1988. They do not wish to continue the program as originally agreed but will joint venture future work with another company, unknown to us at this time. Noranda b partner will do 1,000 metres of diamond drilling this late fall and possibly early next year, as well as undertake to survey four of the claims which will be in a full lease position in the spring of 1988. '.- '' We prospected and examined old trenches in line of strike with our main gold showing in the South West corner of claim no. 6^53^6. We had examined some of these in the 1986 field season and identified them as a definite continuation of our main showing. This year we took representative samples from several trenches, powdered them up with mortar and pestle, then panned the powder. Most of the trenches where quartz ankerite carbonate occured showed a minor to significant tail of gold. Our purpose was to pin point areas carrying higher gold indications by panning for future stripping and blasting operations. Other locations as noted in attached sheets were re-examined as well for future work. Most of our program was oriented around the key claim showing on claim no. 6^53^6, as the attached plan shows considerable rock was blasted out. Difficulty was encountered with the blasting procedure as we did not want to blow any rock away. Some blasts due to previous fractures blew large rocks into our trench area which necessitated back-breaking sledge hammer work to reduce them to moveable size. All this was time consuming but we did find some gold from these blasts. Our ultimate goal is to stockpile sufficient ore grade material to warrant bringing in heavy equipment next summer to move this blasted material to our base camp. We hope to run a bulk sample thru of severals tons with our own equipment. At present we have a primary 5" jaw crusher, but no motor as yet. This winter and before the 1988 field season we hope to purchase additional mill equipment for a small scale mining operation in the next year or so. During our work on the main showing we controlled our "selection of ore" by crushing representative samples from our blasts and then panning the material. When we got a noticeable tail of gold we removed all that rock material to the side of the trenches for future recovery. From this stock pile my wife and I carried on our backs 700 Ibs. of rock, a little at a time of course, across a swamp about 800 feet long and a foot path another 400 feet to our vehicle, which would be approximately l/? miles from camp ialjq&g! aft' cg.pl bu&hth&h^ This same amount we transported across a lake to ourj^rd^^oje'pan^'jijfjn^vf^^p^r home. Designation OM8?-^-l-117 Continued Page 'd This winter when we acquire an impact crusher we will endeavour to powder this rock and run it thru a spiral concentrating type of machine to assess this type of gold recovery. During the months of May and June our work was greatly curtailed because of work restrictions imposed by the HNR due to high fire hazards. After the first week in June, Sandra, our daughter and partner on this program had to go to work as our hopes of finding sufficient gold to warrant her working with us was not justified. We had to carry on our work as best-as we could. We hope to have additional help next summer. The Gorham Township cluim was stripped around the known gold showing. Samples of vein material was shipped out by Noranda but as yet we have not received any assay results. Work is planned there for next summer. Our McTavish claim group was dropped due to lack of time and money to work on them. Respectfully submitted, Neil R. Maki
