From Fabric A, fussy cut: four 11 x 13-1/2 panels four 4-1/2 squares from the striped borders From Fabric B, cut: two 2-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: four 2-1/2 x 11 strips one 3 x WOF strip. From Fabric C, cut: two 2-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: four 2-1/2 x 13-1/2 strips one 3 x WOF strip. Subcut: two 3 squares for the HSTs From Fabric D, cut: four 2 x WOF strips. Trim to yield: two 2 x 28-1/2 top/bottom inner borders two 2 x 30-1/2 side inner borders From Fabric E, cut: three 2-7/8 x WOF strips. Subcut: thirty-six 2-7/8 squares. Cut each square once on the diagonal. two 4-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut: eight 4-1/2 x 3-3/4 rectangles six 4-1/2 squares From Fabric F, cut: two 3-3/8 x WOF strips. Subcut: eighteen 3-3/8 squares, spreading out cutting to get the colors you desire. Cut an additional strip, if desired, for more color variety. From the Binding Fabric, cut: five 2-1/2 x WOF strips Assemble the Quilt Center Step 1: Pair a Fabric B square with a Fabric C square, RST. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of one square. Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line, creating two half-square triangles (HSTs). Press toward the darker fabric. Trim to 2-1/2 square. Repeat to make a total of four B/C HSTs. Step 2: Sew a Fabric C strip to the left edge of each Fabric A panel piece. Press toward the strip. Sew a B/C HST from Step 1 to the left edge of a Fabric B strip, matching the Fabric B edges together and orienting the HST as shown. Press toward the strip. page 3
Step 3: Sew both units from Step 2 together, creating a panel block. Repeat Steps 2-3 to create four panel blocks. Step 4: Arrange the panel blocks together in two rows of two. Sew together, pressing block seams in opposite directions and pressing the row seam open or to one side. The complete Quilt Center should measure 25-1/2 x 30-1/2. page 4
Assemble the Pieced Border Step 5: Assemble the Square in a Square Blocks (SIAS) by sewing a Fabric E triangle to opposite sides of a Fabric F square. Press seam allowances toward the triangles. Repeat on remaining sides of the Fabric F square. Trim the SIAS block to 4-1/2 square. Repeat with all E triangles and F squares to make a total of eighteen SIAS blocks. E 4-1/2 E F F Step 6: Gather four SIAS blocks and three 4-1/2 Fabric E squares. Sew together, alternating units and beginning and ending the strip with a SIAS block. Press toward the Fabric E squares. Sew a Fabric A square to each end of the strip. Be sure to orient the Fabric A squares as shown below. Press. This is the top outer border. Repeat to make the bottom outer border. Step 7: Gather five SIAS blocks and three 4-1/2 x 3-3/4 Fabric E rectangles. Sew together, alternating units and beginning and ending the strip with a SIAS block. Press toward the Fabric E rectangles. This is the side outer border. Repeat to make a second side outer border. page 5
Add the Borders Step 8: Sew the Fabric D side inner borders to the sides of the quilt center. Press toward the borders. Sew the Fabric D top and bottom inner borders to the quilt center. Press toward the borders. Step 9: Sew the side outer borders (from Step 7) to the sides of the quilt center. Press toward the borders. Sew the top and bottom outer borders (from Step 6) to the quilt center. Press toward the borders. Your quilt top is complete! Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy!
