The Hub is known as a maker space, a place for learning, creating, and working. They offer co-working space, design studios, cutting-edge equipment and technologies, with experienced mentorship and classes. The only one of its kind in Arkansas, they offer help with ideas for possible products and business development, A variety of memberships are available, which provide access to all the facilities and services. For more information, see their website https://arhub.org/ or call 501-907-6570.
On Saturday, May 27, members of APS met at Two Rivers Park for a paint-out, in lieu of our regular June meeting. Thanks to Linda Pneuman for sending pictures of the group.
Mini-workshop Trees On Saturday, May 23, Shirley Anderson presented a mini-workshop on painting trees in pastel using a variety of underpainting treatments, including watercolor, Pan Pastel, and regular pastel washed in with water or Turpenoid. She also discussed using clear gesso to build up texture as part of the underpainting process. She recommended using white paper with both watercolor and Pan Pastel underpaintings, because colored papers will alter the underpainting colors. She likes to use Pastel Premier paper with watercolor underpainting and Multi-Media pastel panel for Pan Pastel. She uses the underpainting to establish shapes and values, then builds up her colors gradually to create the painting using tiny curving strokes. Use the stick on edge like a paintbrush. One resource she recommended for additional help with trees is an online book by Deborah Secor. It s available free to download at http://landscapesinpastel.blogspot.com/.
