SmarterFence BY BEDFORD TECHNOLOGY > Installation Instructions

BEFORE YOU START > Check to see if a permit is needed in your area. > Check with your local utility companies to locate any underground utilities. > Be certain of the boundaries of your property. > Read the instructions contained in this guide. These installation guidelines apply to the following: > 2-Rail Fencing (KIT #14673) > 3-Rail Fencing (KIT #14547) > 4-Rail Fencing (KIT #14675) Installation method is the same for each system, but board spacing and post length will vary based on which kit you are installing. time. Because this is a durable and sustainable material, any mistake will be seen for generations to come. FENCE COMPONENTS > POST SIZE - True 4 x4 x 68 (2 rail), 84 (3 rail), 96 (4 rail) > POST SPACING 96 (8 ) on center > RAIL SIZE 5/4 x6 x 96 (Height for 3 and 4 rail is 54-60 above grade) 2 rail spacing - 14 3 rail spacing - 12.5 4 rail spacing - 9 > RAIL SCREWS each rail will require 4 heavy-duty lag screws. It is recommended the SP AX PowerLag at ¼ diameter and 3 length with washer style head, if you use another brand fastener then we suggest that you pre-drill for these larger screws. TOOLS REQUIRED > 100 tape measure > Post level (this allows you to check two planes of the post for plumb) > A spool of nylon string and some wood or re-bar stakes > Hammer and a circular saw (a carbide tooth blade is best) > recommended for marking holes) > Hand post hole digger > Powered auger with 10-12 bit > Drill with 3/8 drill bit (pre-drilling recommended) > Impact driver & T30 TORX bit

HILLY OR SLANTED TERRAIN You can cut the rails into 8 lengths to allow for changes in elevation. The more gentle the transition*, the better your fence will look, so you may want to spread the transition over several fence sections if the land 1 Draw a diagram of the job layout. Make sure to include the number of corner/end posts and middle posts that you will need (if you opt for larger end posts). *In extreme situations, you may need to open the routed holes. 2 Establish the fence line using string and stakes. Allow 2 from the string line to the center of the post. Identify where each post will be installed using spray paint to mark each location. *Note: Sticking with 8 lengths allows for changes in ground level and rounding corners. 3 Make sure the boards are on site at least 24 hours before installation. For best results, boards should be at the ambient temperature at the time of install.

> INSTALLING THE POSTS 1 Drill your holes 30-48 deep (check with local codes) with the powered auger at each spray painted marking and clear the holes with the hand post hole digger. For 4 x4 posts, use a 8-10 auger. 2 Place the posts in the holes and lay out 1-80lb. bag of premixed QUIKRETE cement at each hole. If your soil is extremely sandy (similar to beach sand), you should use 2-80lb. bags per hole. It is recommended that you use 2-80lb. bags at the corner/end posts as well. 3 Pour a couple of quarts of water in the hole with the post, empty the bag of QUIKRETE into the hole, then put a couple of quarts of water on top and agitate the mix with a thin spade or metal rebar to blend as much as possible, repeat as needed for additional bags. Let it settle a from the string line always use your feet at the base of the post. Don t push or pull at the top of the post. 4 Posts should be placed 8 on center and the rails will be 8 long. This means the rails meet at every post for 8 boards, and your post placement must be accurate. If you encounter an immovable object, it is recommended to give yourself extra room on the short side of the 8 centers. 5 After several posts have been installed, make sure the posts are set at the right depth by checking the tops of the posts. It is recommended irregular terrain. The suggested height of the reference posts is: Kit #14673 2 Rail : 30 in ground, 38 above ground. Kit #14547 3 Rail : 30 in ground, 54 above ground. Kit #14675 4 Rail : 36 in ground, 60 above ground. If the post is too high, use a hammer and a block of wood to tap the post in deeper. If the post is too low, adjust the post to the correct high installing gate posts, you may want to use a larger footing and more concrete, depending on your soil.
