Positive/Negative Triptych Self- Portrait Challenge Create visual story-telling with a triptych using white shading on black paper For this project you will: Select a theme from Persepolis; think of this as if you are telling a visual story through story boarding. You will then design how to break-up the images into a minimum of 3-5 panels. Then you will decide how you will shade using posi-tive/negative space techniques. The tryptic must show your personal narrative that reflects a self portrait. You must add elements that reflects your personal identity. Expectations/Problem-Solving & Skill Elements You must have at least 3 panels; if you want to break your work up further you may do so; you are not limited to square & rectangular panel shapes You must have some shading that is white on black paper, but you are not limited to this; you may use color to enhance (just remember that this is not a project about building color skill) You must create original work instead of copying that of others (any reference material you use must be manipulated); taking your own photographs is a good approach for this project You must keep in mind good composition in each panel; think of each panel as separate before it s a whole Although I want to see shading, you are not limited to just that; you may include shape and pattern work, contour or expressive line work, etc.
Look at the examples bellow for Good Design Choices! Good Composition.
Process Sketchbook Examples: Your sketchbook pages must be fully complete and show development of your self-portrait supported by research, visual ideas, photographs and inspirational images.
