We had gorgeous, beautiful southern weather and hospitality for our Spring and Fall Conferences, which always seem to provide a great mix of professional education topics. This year s Board of Directors were a lively group with many great ideas intended to strengthen and further the mission of our association. They have made great strides and continue to work on such issues as policy and procedure clarifications with our bylaws and our certification guidelines, enhanced membership marketing, developing job descriptions for our directors and officers, continues to make voting easy, added a blog to the website with information coming soon to members, and worked to offer many scholarships for newcomers and new CGFOs. These and other efforts by this year s Board will continue to add value and credibility to our association. I would like to thank the conference chairs and the board for wonderful conferences this year. I d like to also thank the Committee Chairs for their hard work and dedication to this organization: THE 2016 COMMITTEE CHAIRS Nominating Committee Breta Rheney Membership Committee Carrie Johnson Program Committee Ian MacLean Financial Review Committee Kevin Yokim Certification Committee Angie McInchok Scholarship Committee Donna Sullivan An extra special thank you to the members of our organization that served on these committees. by JENNIFER BROUGHTON, 2016 GFOASC PRESIDENT Professional Ethics Committee Stacey Hamm Spring Committee Sheila Smith Fall Committee Kristina Junker Newsletter Committee Vicki Bowles Policies & Procedures Committee Matt Evans page 1

The other Platinum Sponsors were TD ration and ideas for keeping every aspect of their life in balance. Bank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Wells Fargo. Without these I would like to personally thank the Fall Conference Committee, the GFOASC Board of Directors, and our Sponsor Coordinator Deborah Nye, for all of their hard work while planning and during the conference. Overall, 25 attendees were able to attend the conference with a GFOASC registration fee scholarship contributing to this being one of the highest attended conferences in recent years! amazing sponsors and the help of our Sponsor Coordinator, Deborah Nye, this conference would not be possible! The conference kicked off with a game showed themed general session on Bond Basics on Sunday afternoon. Many attendees said it was one of their favorite sessions of the conference. I highly recommend arriving to the conference in time for the first session on Sunday, as you never know what to expect and it is a great way to squeeze in two additional CPE credits. We had a festive Mardi Gras themed dinner with entertainment on Sunday night to round out the opening day activities. Our keynote general session speaker, Sunjay Nath, inspired us with his discussion on the 10-80-10 principle. Other general session topics included, FLSA Overtime Update, Who is a Fiduciary, Turning Over Every Stone, Preparing for the New OPEB Accounting Standards, Marketing and Credit Trends in the Municipal Finance Industry, How Millennials are Changing Payments and Processes, The Economic and Financial Outlook, Minimizing Fraud in the Nonprofit Grant Process, and Active Shooter in Today s World. We closed out the conference with a lighthearted talk from humorist Jan Igoe on The Struggle with the Juggle. As we move forward into 2017, please look for ways to volunteer and get involved within the organization. Kathryn Masewicz will be chairing the Spring Conference, so mark your calendars to attend on May 1, 2017 in Columbia. There will be several CPE opportunities to take advantage of next year as well. Also, we want to see you at next year s fall conference! Matt Evans, President-Elect, will be chairing this event which will be held at the Marriott Grand Dunes in Myrtle Beach, October 1-4, 2017.
