We have heard that pedestrian safety and high traffic speeds along Olson Highway are major concerns for the community. elow is a list of suggested potential safety improvements along Olson Highway. Please place a sticker next the three highway corridor modifications that you feel will best improve the safety, character and livability of Olson Highway. (Note: Future study may determine some of these modifications are ultimately not feasible, but we want to understand the importance of these items to determine whether they should be investigated further) 1 6 Sidewalks and/or trails should be buffered from Olson Highway by boulevards planted with street trees ll traffic signals should include countdown timers to let people know how much time they have left to safely cross the highway 2 7 Sidewalks and/or trails along Olson Highway should be lighted during evening hours 3 8 Pedestrians and bicyclist crossings of Olson Highway should only be located at signalized intersections 4 9 More pedestrian and bicycle crossings of Olson Highway are needed in addition to the signalized intersections 5 10 There should be a comfortable space on the highway median islands for pedestrians and bicycles as they wait to cross the roadway Multi-family Housing Multi-family Housing New multi-family housing should be located close to Olson Highway to visually narrow the width of the highway corridor (which would change the character of the roadway and encourage lower vehicle speeds) ing llow on-street parking on the outside lane of Olson Highway during non-rush hour periods X Remove Remove one vehicle travel lane in each direction along Olson Highway (which would reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians) us or ike Use ing Remove us or ike Use In the long term, transition the outer travel lane to a dedicated lane exclusively for bus and/or bicycle use X OPEN HOUSE- November 12, 2014 OLSON HIGHWY POTENTIL SFETY IMPROVEMENTS METRO lue Line extension (ottineau LRT) Phase: 1 Station rea Planning
