The AX400 Series The AX400 Single and Dual Input ph Analyzers incorporate the latest technology and innovative design, providing flexible feature-packed instruments capable of satisfying a wide and diverse range of applications. The AX460 Single Input version can be easily upgraded to a Dual Input version simply by adding a second input card. It is not possible to upgrade a single input version and retain PID capability. AX400 Series analyzers are available for either wall-/pipe- or panel-mounting and are rated to IP66/NEMA 4X*. Energy Saving Display The backlit display has been designed to operate in all types of environments, and shows both the measured parameter(s) and a 16-character display line for diagnostic and computed information. On dual input analyzers both measured parameters are displayed simultaneously. The backlight can be set to automatically switch off after 60s of inactivity. High Functionality as Standard All versions are supplied with two, fully isolated current outputs that can be assigned to either the measured variable (ph or Redox [ORP]) or the sample temperature. Three programmable relay set points are available which can also be assigned as required. Innovative features such as power-saving display, diagnostic current output option for sensor status and three choices of PID control (available on single input versions only) provide the user with a formidable array of control capability. Versatile Power Supply Options The AX400 Analyzers are supplied as standard for 85 to 265V AC operation. They can also be provided for 24V AC, or 12 to 30V DC, supply and recognize automatically which of the two supplies is being used. This reduces maintenance costs significantly by negating the need for costly safety tests to ensure compliance with safety procedures. Display Showing Sample Temperature Coefficient Setting Easy-Access Installation Terminals Easy access to the terminations ensures rapid and costeffective installation. The wall-/pipe-mount version has been designed to ensure that cable connection is simple and convenient and that the IP rating of the electronics section is retained when the terminal compartment cover is removed. Expanded User Flexibility An advanced option card provides an additional two current outputs and two further alarm relays, which can also be assigned to the ph value or sample temperature A real-time clock and ph log book, to record alarm events and electrode status etc., are also included within this powerful option card. AX400 Termination Chamber Makes Access Easy *Rating applies to front panel only on panel-mount versions. 2
Dual Input ph or Redox (ORP) The AX466 enables two continuous measurements of ph or Redox (ORP) with simultaneous local display and retransmission. The option card, which provides additional relays and analog outputs, enables all measured values and sample temperatures to be retransmitted simultaneously. Increasingly this capability is being utilized to provide an on-line validation of the process measurement. Making two simultaneous measurements and configuring one of the set points as a difference alarm provides continuous on-line validation and an early warning of malfunction of the measurement. Water Wash and Chemical Clean Water wash and chemical clean are standard features that are user-selectable. The frequency and duration of the wash can be tuned to meet the needs of the application. For the chemical cleaner a 60 litre (13 gallons) tank, complete with delivery pump and low level alarm, can be ordered separately. This has proven particularly successful on potable drinking water plants where manganese and iron in the sample has created unacceptably high levels of maintenance. Effective cleaning reduces cost of ownership. Integral P, PI and PID Control The single input AX460 incorporates three-term PID Control, offering the user three modes of sophisticated control to select from: analog, pulse length (time proportional) and pulse frequency. These are supplied as standard and can be operated in direct- or reverse-acting mode, dependent upon the application. Bi-directional for Acid/Base Addition As well as single set point control for both acid and base addition, the analyzer can be configured to control both acid and base functions. To avoid control overlap a minimum of 0.5pH difference between the set points is essential. This difference between the set points varies, depending on the application. PID function is only available on single control set point operations. Combination Conductivity/pH Redox (ORP) Display Combined Conductivity and ph The AX416 version enables conductivity and ph to be measured in the same unit. The option card provides the capability to retransmit ph, conductivity and both sample temperatures. Five programmable alarms, that can be assigned to suit the needs of the application, enable even the most demanding requirements to be met. Auto/Manual and Bumpless Transfer An auto/manual feature is incorporated and is readily accessible for rapid manual intervention if it's necessary to take over from the controller. The controller facilitates bumpless transfer from manual to auto (and vice versa) providing the measured variable is within the proportional band and some integral action time has been programmed. Power Failure Recovery In the event of a power failure the user can configure the control mode to be Auto, Manual or Last. This optimizes control conditions on power-up to ensure rapid recovery of process control. 3
AX460 Single Input Only Time Proportioning Control Time proportioning control operates by energising and deenergising relays for time periods depending on the difference between the set point and measured variable values (also known as mark/space control). The greater the difference the longer the relay remains energized. With no output the relay is permanently de-energized. With an output the relay is energized for a proportion of the cycle time equal to the percentage output. This technique is particularly suited for control of solenoid valve dosing. Permanently de-energized Output = 0% Energized De-energized 2.5 seconds 7.5 seconds Output = 25% Energized De-energized 5 seconds 5 seconds Output = 50% Energized De-energized 7.5 seconds 2.5 seconds Output = 75% Cycle time = 10 seconds Time Proportioning Control Bi-directional As well as single set point control for both acid and base addition, the analyzer can be configured to control both acid and base functions. To avoid control overlap a minimum of 0.5pH difference between the set points is essential. This difference between the set points varies depending on the application. PID function is only available on single control set point operations. Pulse Frequency Control Pulse frequency control operates by pulsing a relay on for 300ms and off for a period of time determined by the pulse frequency. The pulse frequency (PFr) can be adjusted between 1 and 120 pulses per minute. The greater the difference between the measured variable and the set point the greater the pulse frequency. 100% Control Output 0% 0 Low Set Point ph High Set Point 14 Example If the pulse frequency is set at 120 pulses per minute and the percentage output is 100% then the pulse rate is 2 pulses per second see below. Reduce the percentage output to 50% and the pulse rate is one pulse per second. This method is particularly useful in the control of diaphragm metering pumps.
