MAST Academy Gaming Club Constitution The club known as Mako Gaming will comprise of the competitive play of videogames, with emphasis on MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) such as League of Legends and RTSs (Real Time Strategy) such as Star Craft II, as well as other gaming related activities such as videogame development and appreciation. The esports scene is recognized worldwide by hundreds of organizations, businesses, and schools as a legitimate form of entertainment and sports. They are supported by numerous conglomerates, and have a dedicated fan base that rivals that of modern pop culture and media. It is a spectator sport with viewership in the millions and a dedicated hobby that is taken up by over 100 million people worldwide. esports encompasses a variety of genres that emphasize player skill, whether it is reaction time or the ability to strategize in short spans of time. Furthermore professional League of Legends and StarCraft II players are recognized by the United States Government as international athletes and are given athletic visas. Article I The objective of the Mako Gaming club is to introduce people to one the fastest growing recreational activities and one of the largest entertainment industries in the world; thus the Mako Gaming club will be one of the rapidly increasing number of high schools across the United States to embrace esports (and other gaming activities) and the competitive gaming culture: 1. The Mako Gaming club will encourage students and engage them in an unconventional organization. While having fun. 2. The Mako Gaming club will build character in students; especially in developing life skills such as perseverance, teamwork, critical thinking and decision making.
3. The Mako Gaming club will facilitate a social community made by students for students and will work together towards pushing esports into mainstream acceptance. 4. The Mako Gaming club will educate the students on videogame appreciation as a form of art. 5. The Mako Gaming club will educate the students of the fast growing field of videogame development This club hopes to be part of the growing movement within the United States to legitimize esports within the public sphere. Article II Everyone is expected to be mature and polite members of our community. No game knowledge is required to join the Mako Gaming Club; remember our goal is to introduce individuals to the esports, participate in tournaments, and education about videogame development and appreciation. However, in order to join one of our competitive teams, students must show promise in the genre of their choice, the roster for the competitive teams will be chosen by the officers and the faculty sponsor. Article III The meetings will be announced ahead of time. Possible forms of announcements are; throughout morning announcements, emails, posts within popular forms of social media, flyers, etc. The purpose of the meetings is to: 1. Discussing upcoming local events and activities. 2. Discussing events and highlights that may be occurring throughout the esports scene. Professional or non-professional. 3. Informing and educating the unfamiliar gamers with the various genres of games within the esports market and trends. 4. Work on competition business for both esports and game development
Activities held outside of school hours as club functions will likely involve tournaments, and charity events such as Child s Play and the St. Jude Play Live event. The largest of the yearly tournaments are expected to be held in December and May, with the official dates being finalized closer to the time of the event. The club is planning to participate within legitimate high school circuits in competitive leagues. The structure of the teams participating within these leagues is dependent upon club demographics. The dates of league matches will be aligned to the school year schedule and matches will be played online. Article IV Fundraising and monetary support is a large factor in club events, influencing the size, limitations, and style of the club itself. Mako Gaming will do as much as possible to replicate major events to give members a sense of what occurs in the professional scene, and to prosper a competitive air. The popularity and reach of our club will determine the prospective nature of hosted events. Possible hosted events include of local area network (LAN) events, viewing parties, and tournament attendance. Article V The following year s officers will be selected in the month of April. Officers will be chosen by a simple majority vote of the club and must submit a letter of intent. In the event of a tie, the previous year s board members are obliged to submit a joint tie-breaker vote. Amendments can be created to the existing constitution, if and only if, said amendment gets approval by all board members and a two-thirds majority vote by all club members. Proposed amendments are to be submitted to club officers and the club sponsor for initial consideration.
Article VI Duties and Responsibilities: President: The president is responsible for being an effective leader and role model. He/She is obligated to maintain an orderly environment for the club, as well as introducing changes to the club as deemed necessary. The president is responsible for coordinating events and club meetings. The president is expected to constantly communicate with other board members and keep them on task. If the president is deemed ineffective, the sponsor can may choose to remove him/her from office and all presidential power is to be given to the Vice President until a new president can be elected. The president is first in the chain of command. Vice President: The vice president is responsible for keeping and ensuring that all other officers remain on task, aiding the president in event coordination, gathering feedback from club members, and taking up tasks that other board members are unable to do. The vice president is also in charge of fundraising and coordinating with the treasurer. The vice president is second in the chain of command. Secretary: The secretary is responsible for submitting paperwork to the school administration. These include weekly meeting reports, event request forms, event release and liability forms. The secretary is also responsible for coordinating with event managers and the like. Thus, he or she should be organized and proper. The secretary is third in the chain of command. Treasurer: The treasurer is the manager of all the club funds. He or she is responsible for giving the president and sponsor a bi-monthly report that indicates the state of the treasury. All transactions, including donations, fundraiser money, club dues and purchases, must be cataloged by the treasurer and included in his or her report. These reports are to be both kept physically and in common spreadsheet software. The treasurer must be familiar with spreadsheet software. The treasurer is fourth in the chain of command.
Publicist: The publicist is responsible for notifying members of events, meetings and points of interest as well as spreading publicity both on campus and off campus. Duties include e-mailing members, using social media, posting on Internet forums, and contacting local organizations. The publicist is also responsible for informing club officers and members of upcoming deadlines. The publicist should have good social skills. The publicist is fifth in the chain of command. In the event that the entire board is deemed ineffective, all club powers will be given to the club sponsors (teachers). The ineffective board is then dismissed and emergency elections will take place to create a new board. The club sponsor is the only one with the power to deem an officer ineffective. Article VII Club Rules 1. Usage of personal computers is allowed except for inappropriate use as determined by the rules of Mast Academy, and the Bring Your Own Device Policy. 2. Members that display disorderly conduct within the club are to be dismissed and given a warning. If said individuals show continuous disorderly behavior their membership is to be removed permanently and they are barred further entry. 3. Members of the club are expected to follow all school rules and guidelines while in attendance.
