GET THE LIFE YOU WANT How to FIRE UP in 2016! Do you take the time at the beginning of each year to reassess how the year panned out? Have you ever felt that there is a gap between where you thought you would be at the end of the year and where you actually are? Well it is time to MAKE THAT CHANGE. GET THE LIFE YOU WANT!
Focus
Action - Focus on what you can change Decide on what you need to change for 2016. Take plenty of time and write in each section of the wheel an important part of your life. The next step is to rate your current level of satisfaction in each area. Use a scale of 1-10 (1 being Not Satisfied and 10 being Very Satisfied). Once you have completed your wheel, spend some time to reflect on what you need to prioritise first to start change in 2016. - Remember not everything needs to change for everything to change.
Intention
Action - Develop a clear intention Look at your wheel and think about what aspect of your life needs to change first. To create change we need to get really clear on what our positive intention is. For example if financial stress is putting strain on your relationship, get very clear on what you can achieve. State it clearly - e.g. My intention is to pay $100 off my credit card each week.
Results
Action - track your results There is a simple recipe for making sure you get results FOCUS + CLEAR INTENTION + SMART GOAL. We achieve more when we have 1 clear goal at a time in the area that most needs our attention. Specific - it is much easier to get motivated when our target is specific and positive. Pick specific details and write them down. Measurable - the goal has to be measurable by you or someone else which is easy if you have been specific. Achievable - break your goal into achievable parts. Most people over estimate what they can achieve. Realistic - make sure the goal is reachable and keeps your work life / balance. It has to be something you can control and make choices around. Time-Based - track your goals on a specific date. Set a reminder in your phone, diary or if you have someone to help make you accountable, discuss it with them monthly.
Evaluate
Action - Evaluate your progress Set up alarms in your phone or write a reminder in your diary after setting your goals and allocate time to check in with yourself. How am I doing? Have I achieved one of those little goals? Do I need support and who can I ask? Setting up alarms in your phone or writing reminders in your diary will help you to evaluate where you are on the time-line, whether or not you are reaching those little goals and if you require support from friends, family or work colleagues. It also helps you to re-evaluate where you are going and if you need to make some adjustments, because in life nothing is ever certain and you may need to adjust your mindset or adjust the goal slightly to reach it. Have a think the goal/s you have set and evaluate where you are, write down how you are going. Do you need support? Who do you think would be a great person that can mentor you? Reflect on where you are at on your time line.
Upgrade
Action - Upgrade your thinking regularly Now that you have evaluated where you are on your time-line and what adjustments may need to happen, it s time to upgrade your mental software. Upgrading your mental software is when you now make the changes or adjustments to reach that goal. This may be in the form of changing your mindset from negative to positive, making small adjustments in your life, asking support from someone you respect and value, or starting to put those small goals into action. Note down some of the adjustments you have made or a switch in your mindset that you could make in order to prepare yourself to achieve greater success.
Perform
Action - Performance = Potential - interference Tim Gallway To perform at your best consistently you need to keep focusing on your strengths and potential and reducing the factors that create interference - Tim Gallwey s books on the Inner Game can be a great guide. Write a summary of how you want to perform in those important areas of your life by the end of 2016. Think about your strengths and how to live your life in line with those strengths. We recommend the following books to help you on your journey: What Colour is My Parachute - Richard Bolles The 7 Habits - Stephen Covey Strength Finder 2.0 - Gallup
