The minister delivered his comments at the inauguration of the Kuwait Energy & Community Forum, which was held recently under his auspices and in the presence of a host of oil sector officials, economic pundits and representatives from Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Hussein noted that events like the Kuwait Energy and Community Forum complement official efforts of engaging the community and coordinating with the international community in order to effectively contribute to the prosperity of communities around the world. For his part, the DMD (Admin & Finance), Khaled Al-Khamees presented a paper in which he affirmed that the Kuwait Oil Company spares no effort in entrenching the concept of Corporate Responsibility, which has become part of the company s overall strategy. Al-Khamees spoke to the audience about outstanding achievements registered by the Company in this domain, including its contribution toward resolving a housing crisis in the country. He explained that the Company gave up 4,800 square-kilometer patches of land over the past years, which constitutes 26 percent of the total area of Kuwait. The DMD also told the gathering that KOC s concerted efforts have led to the reduction of gas flaring to a mere 1.75% during the fiscal year 2010-2011, which clearly reflects its keenness on the environment. Al-Khamees further pointed out that the Company is currently constructing the new Ahmadi Hospital Project at a cost of approximately 86 million Kuwaiti dinars, adding that the facility will provide the best health services and care to all oil sector employees. He also noted that KOC organizes numerous activities and media campaigns to raise the level of awareness among members of the society about health risks. The highly rated presentation, which was supported by images and video clips, was well received by the attendants who appreciated the Company s immense contributions to the community.
