Wyndham James Barnett 42024, 11th Bn., Essex Regiment who died on 26 April 1918 Age 29 Son of Elizabeth and the late Edwin Barnett, of Bee Hill, Windlesham, Surrey; husband of Mabel Louisa Barnett, of Fleet Lane, Finchampstead, Berks. Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No.3 11 th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action on 26 April 1918 in Belgium aged 29. Regimental No. 42024. Son of Edwin James Barnett and Elizabeth Ann Stone (nee Belben) of Windlesham, Surrey and husband to Mabel Louise (nee Selwyn). He was born in Windlesham in 1889. His father worked as an agricultural labourer. He married Mabel in 1909 in Windsor. In 1911 he was living in Windlesham, working as a domestic gardener. Sometime between 1911 and his enlistment in the army, he moved to Ellisfield. He enlisted in Basingstoke. He is buried at Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No 3, Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium. Plot I. Son of William Henry and Elizabeth Matthews of Tyeland, Befton, Midhurst, Sussex. He was born in Ellisfield in 1895 and lived at Upper Common Cottage, Ellisfield and then Berrydown Lane, Axford. Prior to enlisting, Alfred moved to Hartney Wintney, Hampshire. His father worked as a general labourer (possibly at Nash s farm). His brother Arthur is also on this memorial. Alfred is buried in The Huts Cemetery, Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium. Plot V. Row A. Grave 14. He is also commemorated on the Hartney Wintney War Memorial.

He was born in Ellisfield in 1899 and lived at Upper Common Cottage, Ellisfield and then Berrydown Lane, Axford. At the time of his enlistment he was living in Knaphill, Surrey. His father worked as a general labourer (possibly at Nash s farm). His brother Alfred is also on this memorial. No known grave. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 106 to 108. Arthur is also commemorated on the Hartley Wintney War Memorial.

Son of John Messer and Emily Charlotte (nee Williams) of South Wood Farm, Preston Candover. Wilfred was born in 1892 in Popham, Hampshire. His father was a carter working on local farms. In 1911 he was living with his parents at College Farm, Ellisfield, working as a carter (presumably at College Farm). He is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium. MEMORIAL ID 10775735

Son of George Pattenden and Ellen (nee Wilkins) of Ellisfield. Kenneth was born in Ellisfield on 20 July 1890. His father was a carpenter working on local farms (possibly Merritt s Farm). In 1911 Kenneth was living with his parents near Merritt s Farm, Ellisfield, working as a House Carpenter (possibly at Merritt s Farm). He is buried at Thiepval Memorial Thiepval, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France. Plot Pier and Face 6 B. MEMORIAL ID 12557631.

Lieutenant Lancelot Botry Pigott 13 th Bn. attd. 2nd Bn., Hampshire Regiment who died on 06 August 1915 Age 26 Son of the Rev. and Mrs. E. Botry Pigott, of Brocas, Ellisfield, Basingstoke. Helles Memorial 13th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Killed in action on 6 August 1915 at Kithira, Gallipoli aged 26. Son of the Rev. Eversfield Botry Pigott and his wife Hilda Madelein Arbuthnot (nee Campbell) of Widmoor House and Brocas (the Rectory). He was born in Ellisfield in 1888. He attended Eastmaris Royal Naval Academy. In 1911 he was boarding with the Dawsons at Widmoor Farm, with is occupation listed as Farmer. No known grave. His name is listed on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Canakkale, Turkey. Panel 125-134 or 233-226 228-229 & 328 MEMORIAL ID 56018218. There is also a memorial plaque to Lancelot on the wall in St Martin s church, Ellisfield.

Frank Chamberlain Randall F/28346, Army Service Corps who died on 25 April 1916 Age 32 Son of Henry and Elizabeth Randall, of The Fox, Ellisfield. Ellisfield (St. Martin) Churchyard, Royal Army Service Corps (Forage Department). Died of pneumonia 25 April 1916, aged 32. Son of Henry Randall and Elizabeth (nee Yarlett) of Bell Cottage, Ellisfield. Frank was born Overton, Hampshire in 1884. His father was a paper mill hand. The family moved to Ellisfield some time between 1901 (when they were in North Waltham) and 1911, when they were living at Bell Cottage, Ellisfield. In 1911, Frank was working as a brick layer. Frank enlisted on 23 March 1916 in Reading, but contracted pneumonia and died a month later. Frank is buried at St. Martin s Church, Ellisfield. His younger brother Sidney is also named on this memorial.

Sydney Randall 8497, 2nd Bn., Hampshire Regiment who died on 30 May 1915 Son of Henry and Elizabeth Randall, of Ellisfield, Basingstoke. Helles Memorial 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Regimental No. 8497. Killed in action 30 May 1915, aged 22. Son of Henry Randall and Elizabeth (nee Yarlett) of Bell Cottage, Ellisfield. Sidney was born Overton, Hampshire in 1893/4. His father was a paper mill hand. The family moved to Ellisfield sometime between 1901 (when they were in North Waltham) and 1911, when they were living at Bell Cottage, Ellisfield. No known grave. His name is listed on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Canakkale, Turkey. Panel 126-135 or 223-226 228-229 & 328.
